*PART 2 is NOW LIVE!*

Here you go - here's Part 1 of 2 of my epic, FOUR DAY trip from Toronto to Vancouver on VIA Rail's Train 1, the Canadian. This is one of the world's greatest train journeys and is an essential bucket list item for any self-respecting rail enthusiast. Who knows how long the original Budd 1955 rail streamliner cars will continue in service? I am absolutely delighted I got to experience a train so classic it was listed as a historic experience back in my 1980s rail annuals I read as a young boy. There is SO MUCH MORE to come in Part 2, including the unbelievably perfect Rocky Mountain scenery as well as more details about the logistics of travelling on The Canadian.

The pandemic taught me to do things while you can - just like all the British Airways 747s disappearing overnight, the Canadian now - as of 2023 - has killjoy buffer cars behind its iconic bullet lounge. Boy, am I glad to have done this in the summer of '22 - memories to last a lifetime!

VIA Rail The Canadian / Toronto to Vancouver (Part 1)

We spent 4 nights on board The Canadian, VIA Rail's only sleeper train from Toronto to Vancouver. We stayed in a cabin for two (Sleeper Plus class) and had a blast! Despite the cabin being quite small, we were surprised by how cozy and comfortable the beds were!

My favorite part of this trip was:
1. watching late sunrises from the big windows of the panorama car
2. eating the delicious meals
2. last but not least, stopping in Jasper for 3 nights! Jasper was truly the highlight of this trip

Tour of The Canadian on VIA Rail - Canada By Train

We had an amazing opportunity to travel across Canada by train on VIA Rail's Toronto to Vancouver route on The Canadian. This is Canada's Amtrak equivalent. For those of you wanting to take this scenic journey, the video and the following details are intended to help provide more information on the trains and special deals that may come up. Travelling by train is indeed a pleasant, scenic experience which I hope you would be able to experience. (Please note that I am not associated with VIA Rail.)

Traveling by train can be pricier and requires more time than other conventions of travel, but it is a luxury of a time gone by. In my case, it was worth every minute; being able to experience the scenic journey, attentive service by the crew members, and getting back into the art of conversation and building friendships (something that we had the opportunity to do with the absence of connectivity for parts of the journey).

Happy Traveling :-)

VIA Rail Journey The Canadian (Vancouver -Toronto)

This video was taken from November 21st to November 25th.
It was an amazing experience to ride on this rail from my home city of Vancouver to Toronto. I went on this trip with my father as he wanted me to take me along. This train ride is the VIA Rail The Canadian Train #2. I rode this Eastbound and I wanted to share some of my experience on this train. You will see what is like riding in the Sleeper Plus Car with all of the stops made and the meals you get to try out. I mean it is a one-time experience that I recommend trying. There is no wifi on board the train, but the scenery is very good and you can definitely meet new people from possibly other countries. If you ask me for the price, I cannot give the exact answer because it depends on the time you travel and the class you choose.

If you want more info on the train route or the prices, visit their website

If you want the specific train that I took, then here is the link as well

Later there is a flight trip report that I made for heading back.
