Chicago's New Iconic Triple-Skyscraper | Vista Tower

Vista Tower is a supertall skyscraper being built in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Plan Commission approved the building on November 19, 2015, in a meeting that also approved the One Grant Park development.

Construction started in August 2016 with expected completion in 2020. Upon completion, it will become the city's third-tallest building at 1,191 feet (363 meters). Designed by a team led by architect Jeanne Gang, Vista will supplant the nearby Aqua skyscraper (also designed by a team led by Jeanne Gang) as the tallest structure in the world designed by a woman. This will make Chicago home to the two tallest structures designed by a woman. Vista Tower is a joint project of Magellan Development Group and Wanda Group. The original estimated cost of construction was $900 million.
The tower was topped off in April 2019, and completion is expected in 2020.

How London laid the groundwork for sustainable sporting architecture | CNBC Reports

Governments hosting high-profile sporting events like the Olympics and FIFA World Cup are repeatedly criticized for building massive, unsustainable venues, often abandoned in the years after the big event. In 2012, London aimed to change that narrative, praised at the time by climate activists for paving the way for sustainable architecture. Nearly a decade later, how are these venues being used and repurposed? What can other host countries learn from 2012? CNBC's Tom Chitty reports from London.

Disclosure: CNBC parent NBCUniversal owns NBC Sports and NBC Olympics. NBC Olympics is the U.S. broadcast rights holder to all Summer and Winter Games through 2032.

World's Weirdest Skyscraper | The Tulip in London

The Tulip, a planned 305m skyscraper in London's Central Business District, would have been London's second tallest building. Designed by Foster + Partners, the tower was to serve as a 360 degree observation towers for tourists. The Tulip was to feature glass skybridges, glass gondola rides and glass pods seating. The tower was rejected by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, after being initially approved by the city's Planning and Transportation Committee. The Tulip would definitely have counted as one of the world's most peculiar skyscrapers.

Top 10 skyscrapers in the world 2022 and 2023 | Top 10 skyscrapers cities in the world 2023

Top 10 skyscrapers in the world 2022 and 2023 | top 10 skyscrapers 2022 | Top 10 skyscrapers cities in the world 2023 | Top 10 skyscrapers in the world | Countries with the tallest skyscrapers

Rising high from the ground, skyscrapers are the most awe-inspiring structures of modern metropolises. They’ve been constructed around the world since the 1930s, and by extending life from the city streets to the sky, they brilliantly solve space problems that arise in crowded urban areas. Here are the current ten tallest skyscrapers in the world with record-breaking heights and award-winning designs.

10. International Commerce Centre (484 meters / 1,588 feet).
Number ten on the list, the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong is a 108-story skyscraper. It was intended to be tallest building in the world, but the height had to be scaled down due to local regulations that prohibit buildings from rising higher than the surrounding mountains. Completed in 2010.

9. Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters / 1,614.2 feet).
Located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, the 101-floor Shanghai World Financial Center serves as a major center of international finance and trade and consists of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks, and ground-floor shopping malls.

8. Taipei 101 (509.2 meters / 1,671 feet).
Taipei 101 is a modern icon in Taiwan, which mixes today’s technology with Asian traditions. Designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes, the tower has distinctive blue-green glass curtain walls and many of the design elements incorporate traditional Asian symbolism and feng shui philosophy.

7. CTF Finance Centre, Guangzhou, China (530 meters / 1,740 feet).
Another Chinese megatall skyscraper, The CTF Finance Centre is the second of two Guangzhou Twin Towers, which are located in the city’s Tianhe District and overlook the Pearl River. The first was completed in 2010 and the CTF Finance Centre, also known as the Chow Tai Finance Centre or Guangzhou East Tower, was opened in 2016.

6. One World Trade Center (541 meter / 1,776 feet)
The One World Trade Center, located in Lower Manhattan, NYC, is the tallest and one of the most significant buildings in the United States. In the aftermath of 9/11, it was designed by David M. Childs to become a statement and the centerpiece of the New York skyline. The 104-story building includes offices, restaurants, broadcast and antennae facilities, and an observation deck with breathtaking views of Manhattan.

5. Lotte World Tower, Seoul, South Korea (555 meters / 1,821 feet).
Lotte World Tower is a 123-floor skyscraper located near Seoul’s Han River in the Sinchon neighborhood. It’s next to the first-generation Lotte World complex, which opened in 1989 and contains a theme park, movie theaters and a shopping mall.

4. Ping An International Finance Centre, Shenzhen, China (599 metres / 1,821 feet).
It was completed in March 2017, the Ping an International Finance Centre was topped out in April 2015, making it the second largest tower in China and the fourth largest building in the entire world. Initially, the finance center was planned to surpass the Shanghai Tower and become the tallest building in China, however the 60-meter antenna designed to be at the top was dropped in the beginning of 2015, because of the possibility of it obstructing flight paths.

3. Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, Mecca, Saudi Arabia (601 meters / 1,972 feet).
Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, also known as the Abraj Al-Bait Towers, is a government-owned building with great value to the culture and society of Saudi Arabia. Located just a stones throw away from Islam’s most sacred place, the world’s largest mosque Masjid al-Haram, the building complex was built as part of an initiative to modernize the city and cater to pilgrims.

2. Shanghai Tower, Shanghai, China (632 meters / 2,073 ft).
As the tallest of the megatall skyscrapers in the heart of Shanghai’s Luijiazui financial district, the Shanghai Tower took eight years to build and is the second tallest building in the world. It was completed in 2015, though it didn’t open to the public until 2016.

1. Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (829.8 m / 2,722 ft).
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai has been the world’s tallest skyscraper since it was completed in 2010. With seven acres of parkland and 163 floors, the building holds 30,000 residences, nine hotels, 19 residential towers, a shopping mall, and a 30-acre man-made lake.

Construction to Restart On Dubai Creek Tower the world's tallest tower to Be Built

Emaar founder Alabbar says Dubai Creek Tower being redesigned, construction to begin within one year
Following a competition that saw participation from several renowned international companies, the tower is now undergoing redesign, Emaar’s Mohamed Alabbar said

In an update about the Dubai Creek Tower project, Emaar Properties’ founder Mohamed Alabbar has revealed that the tower is “currently in the process of being redesigned,” according to a statement by Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Following a competition that saw participation from several renowned international companies, the tower is now undergoing redesign.

Over the course of the next 7 to 8 months, Emaar Properties, in collaboration with the selected international firm, aims to cultivate a fresh concept for this project.

“We hope to start construction within a year from now,” WAM said, citing Alabbar.

Alabbar, who is the founder of Emaar Properties and the e-commerce platform Noon, also appreciated the UAE for its developed competitive economy and stable investment environment. He attributed this to the forward-thinking vision of the country’s leadership.

“The wise leadership in the country has placed a top priority on the continuous improvement of the business environment, in a way that aims to attract investors of all sizes and activities,” Alabbar said, adding that this approach has resulted in robust growth for companies like Emaar Properties and Noon.

Dubai’s Emaar to deliver 45 towers in 2023, says Alabbar

Emaar Properties, one of the UAE’s leading real estate developers, “intends to deliver 45 towers including 15,000 apartments in 2023,” Alabbar said.

Alabbar expressed optimism about the company’s future growth, citing its strong financial performance in the first half of the year, with revenues reaching AED12.3 billion and net profits growing by 15 percent to AED4.9 billion.

Alabbar also revealed plans for long-term expansion, saying the Board of Directors of Emaar Properties is setting long-term expansion plans that extend between 15 to 20 years, including new projects scheduled to be launched.

Regarding Noon, Alabbar spoke of its rapid development since its introduction in 2017.

The e-commerce platform has become a regional leader in online shopping, offering services like Noon Minutes and Noon Food.

Noon is focusing on growth and expansion in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, with potential plans to enter other markets. Alabbar also mentioned Noon’s interest in the travel sector as part of its growth strategy.

“Noon is focused on growth and expansion in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and we are seriously considering offering and listing in the future,” Alabbar added.

In addition to his roles at Emaar Properties and Noon, Alabbar serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Americana Restaurants.

He spoke of Americana’s listing on stock markets in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia as a milestone and projected the opening of 250 to 260 new restaurants by the end of the year.

Alabbar expressed optimism about the UAE’s economic prospects, citing the country’s positive growth rates and solid economic performance, which have surpassed international estimates, “thanks to the wise policies of the wise leadership,” WAM said.

The Dubai Creek tower was in competition with the Jeddah tower to become the world's tallest skyscraper, but the Jeddah tower has also failed and its construction is totally suspended. since 2020. The fate of the skyscraper is still uncertain.

Hong Kong Builds a Skyscraper on the World's Most Expensive Plot of Land

Zaha Hadid Architects has revealed its design for the 2 Murray Road project for $3 billion Henderson Land, in the heart of Hong Kong’s central business district. Creating new civic plazas enveloped by nature, the urban oasis is located in proximity other iconic Hong Kong skyscrapers.

Replacing a multi-story car park, the development is connected to adjacent public gardens and parks, through an elevated base sheltering courtyards cultivated with trees and plants. These outdoor areas seamlessly flow into the communal spaces of the interior. Inspired by the structural forms and layering of a Bauhinia bud about to blossom, known as the Hong Kong orchid tree, the design generates a very wide span of naturally lit, column-free, Grade A office space with a 5-meter floor-to-floor height giving maximum flexibility.

The façade, designed to withstand summer typhoons, includes 4-ply of double-laminated, double-curved insulated glass units, in order to insulate effectively the building and reduce its cooling load as well as build resilience. Moreover, “hybrid ventilation is controlled by the building’s automated management system and enables all office levels to be naturally ventilated”. In fact, smart systems learn to accurately predict daily occupancy trends to optimize energy demand, ensuring increased efficiencies with lower energy consumption.

Canada's Bottle Opener Skyscraper

Niagara Falls city council has just approved a proposal for a 72-story mixed-use residential and hotel building at 6608 Stanley Avenue, and new architectural renderings are out. The project has created a lot of buzz since plans were revealed last month, mainly because of its unique design, as well as its immense height. At 253 m, the skyscraper will be the tallest in Niagara Falls. Structures in the area have not been permitted to exceed 30 stories in the past, but the team behind the new build has come to a compromise with the City that involves the company reinvesting millions into the local community.
The condo will include 275 residential units atop 465 hotel suites, as well as impressive amenities on its upper floors, such as an outdoor infinity pool boasting incredible views, a sky lounge and garden, and an aerial bridge.

The reflective glass exterior and the bottle-opener-shaped crown will make the striking tower stand out as a landmark in the area, with design by Toronto firm Hariri Pontarini, which is behind such properties as Toronto's One Bloor and Shangri-La hotel.
