The Kingdom of Eswatini: Our First African Experience (4K)

Embark on an exciting journey with me as I explore Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) for the first time, showcasing the country's astonishing natural beauty, vibrant cities, and authentic cultural experiences.

Our adventure begins at Shonalanga Lodge in Dombeya Game game reserve, where giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and warthogs freely roam. Experience life up close with nature, as we wake up to the sight of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

We then venture into the nearby city of Manzini, getting a glimpse of the city's vibrant lifestyle and the offerings of a typical supermarket. I take you through the bustling streets, giving you an authentic peek into the daily life in Eswatini's urban centres.

Accompanied by our knowledgeable guide Lunga from Nolu Tours, we traverse the markets in Mbabane, Eswatini's capital. We dive deep into the heart of Eswatini's culture as we explore the country's top attraction - the local cultural village.

Our Eswatini journey is enriched by a day spent with Phumie Mamba, the son of a local clan leader. We explore the Mamba Kingdom and gain an understanding of rural life and politics in Eswatini.

Next, we're on a self-drive tour to discover some of the country's hidden gems. A visit to the Hlane Royal National Park reveals an impressive collection of wildlife - white rhinos, wild lions, elephants, and more.

Finally, we cross the border into South Africa for an excursion to Kruger National Park, a journey that adds to the richness of our Sub-Saharan experience.

This video is a blend of a vlog and a documentary, featuring my first-hand accounts, interviews with local guides, and some breathtaking footage of a country very few people know much about.

Whether you're an armchair tourist, seeking travel inspiration, or considering a visit to Eswatini, join me as we discover some of what the beautiful nation of Eswatini offers travellers.

TRAVEL VLOG TO SWAZILAND: Things To Do In Swaziland - Ngwenya Glass, Sibebe Resort, Mdolomba Eden

Hi Guys,

Long time no see!

I recently took unplanned time off due to family commitments and personal journeys that I needed to take but I am back now. My aim with the channel is to infuse talks about financial planning, living within your means, applying practical life hacks in order for you to live like the rich and famous (well, to some extent), and overall live your best life in the most practical way. And for me, travel is a big part of how I get to take time off, unwind and renew my energies in order to take on life's challenges.

Even though it was unplanned, I managed to do a travel vlog to my hometown (read country) Swaziland, now know as Eswatini. I wanted to showcase some of Swaziland's luxury lifestyle in the form of a travel vlog to give you an idea of what a weekend in Swaziland can look like. The recent riots and unrest have cast a heavy spell on the Kingdom and I just wanted to bring some light moments in an effort to remind its people of all the potential Swaziland has to offer and infuse hope of a new dawn. Me and two of my girls visited three places in a single day and managed to enjoy the Swaziland tourism provided by Ngwenya Glass, Sibebe Resort as well as a new found gem, Mdolomba Eden. These are definitely places I would include in my bucket list of places to visit the next time I am in Swaziland.

Enjoy the video and remember to give me a shout the next time you do a girls' weekend in the beautiful Kingdom of Eswatini.

ESWATINI: Formerly Known as Swaziland | 10 FACTS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT

Eswatini is a country located in the southern part of Africa, landlocked with South Africa and Mozambique in its surroundings. Before bearing the name of Eswatini, this country was formerly called Swaziland. But, did you know that despite this name change, Swaziland has always been “Eswatini”?

Eswatini is a destination with lions and elephants in “Royal Hlane National Park'', and black and white rhinos in “Hlane and Mhkaya Reserves''. The safaris are very rewarding, but there are also possibilities for safari on horseback, mountain bike or on foot, if you want to get closer to yourself. This even applies to the rhino, which can be followed on foot - one of the most thrilling safari experiences there is. When it comes to bird watching, the variety of species found in Eswatini's varied habitats matches that of the much larger Kruger Park just to the north of the country.

Eswatini is home to many African wild animal species with some 132 recorded mammal species, many of which are protected in animal parks and nature reserves across the country. Rhinos, giraffes, hippos and elephants are high on most visitors' wish lists. You can certainly see a lot of them in Eswatini, alongside a small number of predators and many antelopes and small mammals and reptiles.

Eswatini has around 17 protected areas that are home to several species. Mkhaya is one of the best places on the continent to see black and white rhinos. Black rhinos are considered endangered, which unfortunately means that there are not many left on earth. White rhinos, however, are considered near threatened. This means that there are more white rhinos than black rhinos, but they don't have many either.

But what is the difference between a white and black rhino? Well, white rhinos have bigger skulls than black rhinos. Their foreheads also blend more into their back and also have a smaller shoulder hump than black rhinos. White rhinos are the second largest land mammal, just smaller than elephants. Not only is the black rhino the smaller of the two, it's also nicknamed the “hook-lipped rhino” for its eye-catching lip. The other distinguishing feature is that the black rhino has rounded ears, while the white rhino's ears are pointed.

The Swazi nation is an amalgamation of over 70 clans. Their chiefs form the traditional hierarchy under the “ngwenyama” and “ndlovukazi”, who belong to the largest clan, the “Dlamini”.

Indeed, the merger reunited clans already living in the region that is now Eswatini, many of which were of Sotho origin, and clans of Nguni origin who entered the country with the Dlamini in the early 19th century. Traditional administration and culture are governed by uncodified Swazi law and custom, which are recognized both constitutionally and judicially. The language is SiSwati, which is akin to Zulu, although it shares official status with English, which is actually generally used for official written communication.

The Swati diet is based on grains and vegetables. Meat dishes are reserved for special occasions when dishes such as goat stew, roast goat thigh or roast free-range chicken are served. Mealies, a porridge made from corn or sorghum, is the staple food. The often bland porridge is served with spicy stews made from vegetables and leafy greens. Pumpkin, green beans, corn, spinach, beets, rice, and sweet potatoes are frequently used ingredients.

Some of the popular dishes are emasi (sour milk), a fermented milk delicacy where raw cow's milk is fermented and filtered, corn on the cob (roasted or boiled), umbcweba, and umkhunsu (dried meat spicy, similar to jerky). Typical dishes are sishwala, a thick porridge served with a meat or vegetable stew; incwancwa, a sour porridge made from fermented flour flour; umbidvo wetintsanga, squash leaves cooked with peanuts; sidvudvu, a pumpkin-based porridge mixed with flour flour, and tjwala, the traditional beer.

The two main cultural ceremonies of Eswatini are the Incwala in December and the Umhlanga in August. The Incwala is sometimes described as a ceremony of the first fruits, but, spread over six days, it is a much more complex ritual of renewal and strengthening of the kingship and the nation, with songs and dances. used only on this occasion. The Umhlanga, or dance of the reeds, brings together the girls and young unmarried women of the country to cut reeds for the annual repairs of the windbreaks in the village of the queen mother; it lasts five days. It is also the symbol of the unity of the nation and its perpetuation through the massed ranks of young women.

Top 10 CITIES Switzerland: Most beautiful Swiss Places – The Highlights [Travel Guide]

Switzerland is full of beautiful cities! They are urban, vibrant and very happening. Although Switzerland is a small country, the diversity among the cities is very noticeable. The architecture, the art and the culture differ a lot from city to city. You will find the cities of Switzerland by the river, lake or even in the valleys. Each city has its unique appearance as well as its hotspots and attractions of where to go to.
Sion is the capital of the very touristy canton of Valais (Wallis). Interestingly, Sion is only little known but ranks easily among the most beautiful cities of Switzerland. Sion feels like being in Italy but is a French-speaking city. Sion is vibrant, full of street art and also a foodie hub. The most remarkable however are the two castles up on the hills. Lugano is the largest city of Ticino in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Lugano lays by the lake, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and one can feel that Italy is quite near. Lugano charms with its many alleys, culture, lake promenade and its view points. The best view over the surrounding and the city of Lugano you can get at the Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Basel is the hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Basel is an old city and full of culture. It’s important to explore the many alleys with their colorful houses, see the red city hall, the minster and cross the bridges. Basel has a strong connection to its traditions. Important to mention here are the Vogelgryff and the Morgestraich. Bern is the federal city (capital) of Switzerland and the only town that is considered UNESCO world heritage. Very typical for Bern are the many arcades and the fountains. Bern’s old city is really a highlight, thus make sure to spend here at least half a day. Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, a town that feels Mediterranean and sort of French/Italian. The highlight of Neuchâtel are the lake promenade, the graffiti alley and the collegiate church with the castle. Schaffhausen is probably the largest and best preserved old city in Switzerland. Schaffhausen’s old town charms with its colorful houses and oriel windows (balcony windows). Schaffhausen is easy to explore by walk it’s pretty much car-free. The best things to do in and around Schaffhausen are a visit to the Museum zu Allerheiligen, walking at the Vordergasse alley, going up to the Munot and seeing the nearby Rhinefalls. The Munot is a centre for culture and hosts various events. Zurich is the largest city in all of Switzerland. It’s the hub for innovation and business but at the same time is a very touristy destination. Zurich’s old city concentrates around the Limmat quay. Walk along the river Limmat, enter the many protestant churches or head up to the Lindenhof and Polyterrase to enjoy a great vista over the old city of Zurich. Zurich is modern but also very cultural; the major event being the Sechseläuten festival. Fribourg is a city on two levels. The old city of perfectly preserved and thus great to explore. Ascend the church tower of the St. Nicolas cathedral or the Loretta chapel to enjoy a brilliant vista. Fribourg city has also some similarities with Luxemburg. Solothurn is the most beautiful baroque city of Switzerland. The old town is full of beautiful houses and concentrates around the river Aare. The major landmark is the St. Urseren Cathedral that offers you a great view from its tower. Lucerne is no doubt the most beautiful of the Top 10 Swiss Cities. Lucerne has been a favorite for many tourists since it offers so many great things such as a charming river promenade along the Reuss, a great view over Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) and the Swiss Alps and otherwise seems very inviting with its alleys and painted houses. Lucerne’s best attractions are the Jesuitenkirche, Gletschergarten museum and many more. Explore Lucerne on the water by taking a boat ride or head up to Mount Pilatus to get a perfect vista over the Swiss Alps and this old city.

Welcome to Eswatini - Kingdom of Swaziland | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

Have you ever wondered what Swaziland is like? Swaziland is one of the smallest countries in Africa, but it is now starting to boom because of the full support of their government in promoting tourism. It has so much to offer in such a small space.

The highlight of our trip was the visit to Hlane Royal National Park, which is the largest in Swaziland and the best park to see the big five.

Enjoy the video and let us know where you're watching from!
