Maseru is the capital city of Lesotho, a landlocked country encircled by South Africa. The city is on the Caledon River. Traditional crafts feature at the cone-shaped Basotho Hat, a shop and information center.
On the Thaba Bosiu plateau, east of the city ruins dating from the 19th-century reign of King Moshoeshoe. Thaba Bosiu overlooks Mount Qiloane, a conical mountain that is one of the nation's symbols.

Lesotho is a country located in Southern Africa, and is often referred to as the Kingdom in the Sky due to its altitude — it has the highest lowest point in the world (1400m) and is the only country in the world to be entirely above 1000m!
Lesotho is completely surrounded by South Africa and has many attractions to offer which make it an adventurous holiday destination.
When it comes to unique adventures Lesotho has to offer, look no further than the Kome Caves – the staggering cave houses once built by the Basotho people with a purpose to form the cannibals.
Overall Lesotho is generally considered a safe country to travel to. However, even though it has served as a safe haven and a sanctuary from all the troubles that are hitting the rest of Africa pretty hard - Lesotho also has its issues with crime, both petty and violent, illnesses and poverty.
Lesotho - Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village
Thaba Bosiu once was the capital of Lesotho. A cultural village was built at its place, showing traditional dwellings from different parts of Lesotho.

In this episode, David takes us on a tour of Semonkong Lodge, the most recommended place to stay in central Lesotho. Semonkong lodge offers all the comforts of home amongst Lesotho’s dramatic landscape and beautiful nature.
Semonkong Lodge has pony trekking, donkey pub crawls, mountain biking, fly fishing, bird watching, local village tours, and descents down the the longest commercially operated single-drop abseil down the Maletsunyane waterfall.
This cozy hotel features 25 traditional accommodations built from stone and thatch. The lodge also offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner to its guests, as well as snacks, coffee service, and a fully stocked bar.
If you didn’t’ know, Lesotho is a small landlocked country completely surrounded by South Africa often referred to as “the Kingdom in the Sky” for its high altitude (the entire country is more than 1,000 meters above sea level). Lesotho is known for its pristine nature, welcoming people, and tranquil tourism activities.

Most Attractive Places in Lesotho || Mew Play
Although a small country, Lesotho boasts an assortment of fantastic attractions that tourists can visit and discover the history and heritage of both the Basotho people and the Mountain Kingdom.
Katse Dam and Botanical Gardens
Any trip to Lesotho is highlighted by a visit to Katse Dam. This is the centrepiece of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project which transfers the water of the Lesotho Highlands via an incredible conduit of dams and tunnels through the mountains, eventually dispelling out onto the plains of South Africa’s Free State Province.
Sani Pass and the Highest pub in Africa
Amazingly popular with locals and tourists alike, The Sani Pass is a remarkable area for driving, hiking or mountain biking while enjoying sprawling views of the Drakensburg Mountains. This spectacular 4×4 track twists and snakes its way through the “Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park” up into the impenetrable rocky cliffs of Lesotho’s Roof of Africa circuit that links the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg with the attractions of Northern Lesotho.
Thaba-Bosiu
A national Monument, Thaba-Bosiu or ”mountain of the night” was the mountain stronghold of “Moshoeshoe the Great” and is considered the birthplace of the Basotho nation. It is by far one of the most important historical sites in Lesotho and invokes a sense of identity for the proud nation Basotho.
Kome Cave Dwellings
The area used to be called ‘Liboping’ (the place of ovens) as the huts are shaped more like traditional Sotho kilns, built with rock and plastered with a mixture of mud soil and cow dung. The site is now a National Heritage Site where visitors can learn about the rich history and culture of the people.
Sehlabathebe National Park
The Sehlabathebe National Park in the south eastern region of Lesotho, although fairly inaccessible (a 4 wheel drive vehicle is required) is definitely well worth the effort. This was the first designated National park in Lesotho. This hidden gem is full of wonderful rock formations unique to this area, massive rock overhangs, small lakes, rock art, rock arches and a beautiful and unique ecosystem of plants, birds and animals.
