Monastir Tunisia 2023 | Top Tourist Attractions in Monastir Tunisia 4K (UHD)
Monastir, also called Mestir, is a beautiful city on the central-eastern coast of Tunisia, in the Sahel region. It is located about 160 kilometres from the capital Tunis and 20 kilometres from the more popular coastal city of Sousse.
Monastir has about 93,000 inhabitants and is the birthplace of former Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, which largely contributed to the city’s touristic boom. Around a third of the population is occupied in the tourist sector and the city's luxury hotels by the sea and golf courses attract many foreign tourists.
The city boasts several cultural and historical attractions, such as the Ribat of Monastir, the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the Monastir Museum etc.
There are also kilometres of sandy beaches, wide modern avenues, and an international airport that receives and sends many flights daily.
It is considered one of Tunisia's best tourist destinations due to its rich history and beautiful beaches.
Monastir is also home to some of the world’s most interesting archaeological sites. The ruins of Ruspina, a Phoenician and Roman town are just close to it.
Monastir became famous in the 1970s when the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth was filmed there. Another iconic movie Monty Python's Life of Brian was also filmed there.
With its golden beaches and sapphire blue sea, its historical monuments and its charming marina, Monastir will bring a lot of unforgettable impressions.
An ideal holiday destination to sun yourself by the sea, but also to visit a fascinating region: from Sousse to Kairouan and from El Jem to Mahdia.

Today we are off in the 4x4 exploring some of the more remote but beautiful beaches along Tunisia's northern Bizerte coastline. These include Cap Nigro and Sidi Mechreg, where I explore the amazing facilities of Eco-Rand Sidi Mechreg. Find out more about their campsite here:
