Burundi is a small country in East Africa, although it has some cultural and geographical ties with Central Africa. It is surrounded by Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Its aim is to ensure the transmission of the cultural inheritance from the forefathers and ancestors evidenced by belongings and objects they revered and favoured, the dances and rhythmic music they composed.
Kibira National Park - Situated at the top of the apex Zaire-Nile, with its 40,000 ha (hectares) of preserved forest land, is the largest completely untouched natural area in Burundi. Its forest constitutes a real shelter for chimpanzees, baboons, and monkeys (cercophitecus and colobus) scattering away at the approach of human beings and defying all laws of equilibrium and gravity.
Ruvubu National Park - The National Park of Ruvubu lies on both sides of the Ruvubu River and is limited by high rise mountains. It was freed from human inhabitants and returned to the wild completely. The track and length of the path network is approximately 100km and includes many observation lookouts.
Rusizi Natural Reserve - The Natural Reserve of Rusizi may be your first nature trek in Burundi as it is very near the capital city of Bujumbura. The River Delta extends over 500ha of vegetation made of Phragmites mauritianus. It is a natural shelter for families of antelopes and hippopotamuses that come here in quest of grazing land. At the end of the track if you are lucky enough you may meet with a few crocodiles fast asleep on the golden sand of the river banks.
Bururi Natural Reserve - The Natural reserve of Bururi is a 3,300ha expanse of altitude damp forest. The town of Bururi offers visitors this wonderful panorama. To visit the park first go to the INECN office in Bururi, it's not common knowledge among Bururians that you have to do this first. If you are told that there is no entry fee and no guides are available, this is not true. At the office you can pay the entry fee of BIF5,000 and arrange a guide (BIF5,000). In this place there are about 117 different species of birds, and 25 different species of mammals have been identified in a forestland surrounding of multifarious vegetation.
Vyanda Natural Reserve - This is a forest reserve that can be accessed from the town of Rumonge. The main attraction here is the ability to see chimpanzees.
Rwihinda Lake Natural Reserve - The Rwihinda Lake Natural Reserve is a real sanctuary for migratory aquatic birds which come to the site by the thousands to reproduce. All these now protected birds can nest more and more on these green swamps and islets of the lake.
Nyakazu Break and the Karera Falls
The natural Forest Reserves of Roumonge, Kigwena and Mugara are in process of development to enable chimpanzees and cercopithecus monkeys to find enough food to stay there and procreate.

Bujumbura is the nation’s capital and largest urban centre. The city’s industry specializes in textiles, leather, paper, chemicals, and agricultural products. Bujumbura also serves as the country’s main port on Lake Tanganyika; most of Burundi’s foreign trade is shipped between the capital and Kigoma, Tanzania, and, less frequently, to Kalemi, Congo (Kinshasa). The surrounding region yields bananas, cassava (manioc), beans, corn (maize), wheat, and cotton. There is an international airport directly northwest of the city and road connections with Bukavu and Goma in Congo and Kigali in Rwanda. The University of Burundi (founded 1960) and the Centre of Burundi Civilization are two of the city’s most important cultural institutions.

Rusizi National Park in Bujumbura, Burundi
Rusizi National Park is the most famous National parks in Burundi and reserves at the same time being the most visited of all due to the most enriched wildlife & the Crocodiles on River Rusizi .
Rusizi National Park is also referred to as Parc National de la Rusizi and the park is sectioned into two significant areas which are separated by the Bujumbura-Uvira road. The larger part of the park is lies on the eastern bank of Rusizi River. This flood plain is 2km wide and 45km long with acacia trees, shrubs and grasslands dominating the wild vegetation.
Rusizi National park is located 15km the north-west of Bujumbura, a few kilometers to the border with DR Congo. The Bujumbura- Uvira highway crosses the park, dividing the park into two sections. Rusizi National Park Burundi can be accessed through various routes and Roads, as it can be accessed by road and airline basing from Democratic republic of congo Bukavu, or Rwanda or via Airlines to Burundi International airport in Bujumbura the capital city.

Rusizi National Park is a large empty enclosure set up by the edge of the Rusizi River here, one that the Burundian authorities hope will one day lure tourists to this part of central Africa as it can be joined on Africa Safaris to Kahuzi Biega National park for Gorilla Trekking in Africa.
It is ringed by a fence topped with barbed wire and has a giant pool inside. If all goes according to plan, it will someday become the home of Gustave, an enormous man-eating crocodile that has for decades haunted the Rusizi and the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika, where the river flows and its can be viewed on Boat Cruise .
While the largest Nile crocodiles typically measure something over 20 feet, Gustave supposedly reaches 30 feet; some people who have seen him claim he is 40 feet, teeth to tail. Locals describe how he has devoured fisherman after fisherman, swimmer after swimmer. During one raid, legend has it, he chomped up more than 300 people and still seemed hungry at the end of it all, visit the reptile village.
