What are the worst places for Americans in South America? Ideally, no American should have any reason not to feel at home when visiting anywhere in South America. After all, someone might reason, America is America, be it in Southern America, North America, or Central America. It’s like a huge joke to assume that no American is more American than any American anywhere called America! Some countries in South American have cities that are hostile to people from the US. Some cities are simply dangerous to live or to visit for any foreigners regardless of his country, but more dangerous for Yankees. Here are the 10 worst places to live in South America.
Let me quickly add: My listing of the 10 worst places for Americans in South America in this video represents nothing but my personal opinion formed out of my own research and findings from those with firsthand experiences. Nevertheless, I respect other people’s rights and desires to express their dissent.

10 Most Dangerous Countries for Americans or Westerners.
You know some countries are more dangerous than Detroit or a Lingerie party at my cousin's ex-wife's house. Yes, it's hard to believe, I know.
In general, the world can be a dangerous place. You could be in danger no matter where your plane lands. The thing is, some countries excel in danger. And some even bump that up a notch depending on where you hail from. If you think everyone in the world loves America and its people, you’ve lived a sheltered life and I want to congratulate you on escaping from where ever you were and are now able to get on the internet to watch this video.
The fact is, some countries are dangerous for everyone, especially Americans, so much so the Dept. of State updates a report every couple weeks called Travel Advisory. This is a report that ranks the danger level a country might have for Americans that travel there. It has colors like a mood right of danger and goes from level 1 Blue that Exercise normal precautions, up to 4) Red Do not travel.

Top 10 Most Dangerous Places to Live and Work for Expats

Personal safety is one of the first things that comes to mind when we think about working and living abroad. But it’s not often we get the opportunity to find out from thousands of expats already living and working abroad. Stay tuned as we count down the ten most dangerous places to live and work, as voted by expats.
In tenth place, Colombia. Unstable political conditions, crime and corruption are common in this South American nation. Named after the Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus, Colombia is the 25th largest country in the world. Once home to the notorious Medellin cartel, headed by Pablo Escobar, Colombia continues to struggle with crime and drug problems to this day.
Number 9 - Turkey. A beautiful country with a rich history spread across two continents, Turkey borders some of the most dangerous regions in the world, including Iraq and Syria. While the country is welcoming to tourists, political tensions continue and there was an attempted coup in 2016. The threat of terrorism is unfortunately also very real.
In eight place is Ukraine, described as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. In 2019, it ranked 57 out of 64 for safety in a survey of expats, who described in detail the significant corruption in the country. Foreigners have been known to be targeted by criminals and are described by some as “walking wallets”, as they are often charged extra for normal services simply because they are foreign.
Number 7 - Kenya. A beautiful country in East Africa, Kenya has been popular with foreign tourists for many years. However, foreigners living in the country complain that it is not safe to walk alone, and that they are often taken advantage of by thieves, scammers, and even the police, who are known to collect bribes.
Number 6 - Peru. Based in western South America, and bordering Colombia and Brazil, two other countries that made our top 10 list, Peru is well known for its breathtaking natural landscapes and rich history. Unfortunately, there are complaints of mistreatment of women, poor working conditions and an aggressive attitude towards foreigners.
In fifth place, India. One of the largest countries in the world and with a growing economy, many foreigners have chosen to live and work in India over the past decade. Despite its rich culture and heritage, India continues to struggle with social tensions and hardline politics. The country is especially difficult for foregin women to live in, many of whom have complained about severe sexual harassment from local men.
Number 4 - Argentina, the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, and second-largest country in South America. Despite the economy improving over the past few years, there is still significant economic volatility, and foreigners describe the place as unsafe and unwelcoming. It ranked 61 out of 64 in a recent survey of expats.
In third place, Nigeria. A multicultural country which has over 500 languages and 250 ethnic groups, Nigeria has the 27th-largest economy in the world. Unfortunately for foreigners, living and working in Nigeria is very difficult due to the continued threat of fraud, kidnapping and robbery. There is also a risk of terrorism in some parts, and foregin governments advise their citizens to avoid travelling at night, or following regular patterns of travel and movement.
In second place and the third African nation to make our list, is South Africa. A weak currency, high crime rate, racism, corruption, and uncertain political conditions make this the second most dangerous place to live and work. Foreigners are often forced to live in secure compounds due to the high crime rate, and therefore are not able to enjoy the country as freely as they would prefer. Murder and sexual assault rates are unforunately high in South Africa.
In first place as the most dangerous country to live and work, is Brazil, the fifth largest country in the world. Despite being one of the fastest growing economies in the world, the poverty and wealth gap has contributed to significant crime in the country. The ongoing political chaos also continues to cause confusion and discomfort for foreigners.
