Awesome Things to Do in Bahrain!

Welcome to Bahrain! ????☀️⛵????️ A nation made up of around 30 small islands in the Arabian / Persian Gulf, it's the Middle Eastern country you've sort of heard of but know next to nothing about. And you certainly wouldn't be able to point it out on a map. Am I right? Don't worry, me too ????

That may well be because firstly, it's tiny. It's the third smallest nation in Asia after the Maldives and Singapore. Nestled between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Bahrain could fit inside Greater London - twice. But you know what they say, the best things come in small packages ????

I completely fell for the place. Or to be more precise, I fell for the country *and* its people ???? Here's a video of just some of the awesome things you can get up to in this super cool little country ????

Don't forget to check the accompanying blog post with more info on each stop: 9 Awesome Things to do in Bahrain

Bahrain Travel & Food Guide ???????? Top Things To See and Do In Manama Bahrain | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us on a short tour around the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. ????????

Our next stop while cruising the Persian Gulf aboard the MSC Bellissima was the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This is a small country with a population of about 1.5 million, 50% of which are expats.
Bahrain means “Two Seas,” and it refers to the fresh and seawater surrounding the archipelago.

Located on Bahrain Island, the largest island in Bahrain, Manama has grown into a booming business and economics center.

It offers visitors and tourists an upscale shopping experience alongside an exciting dining, art, and cultural scene just waiting to be explored.

As soon as we got off the Bellissima, we took a shuttle to the port gates and then a taxi to the city center. The first attraction we visited was the Al Fateh Grand Mosque. This monumental structure can fit over 7000 worshippers at a time!

At the mosque, we were welcomed by a group of women who were offering religious books and materials about the Muslim faith in various languages.

Inside the mosque, they offered a free guided tour that told us all about the history of the mosques, the prayer cycles they do, and some of the rules of Islam, such as why women have to wear a headcover.

Next on our list of must-visit places was the Bahrain Fort, also known as the Portuguese Fort. This is a major UNESCO-protected archaeological site in Manama, with many findings dating back 5000 years.

We even saw what a typical village once used to look like and how Bahrainis once built their houses.

From there, we headed to the Bab AlBahrain Souk. From food and clothes to watches and jewelry, one can really get carried away exploring all those shops and stalls.

Chloe even tried to buy some fresh local bread, and they refused to take her money.

Next, we made a stop at a Krishna shrine in an area known as Mini India. People who have visited the subcontinent say that it really makes them feel like they were back in the country.

Unfortunately, some of us were feeling a little unwell, so we decided it was best to sit down and relax over some delicious Pakistani food for a late lunch.

And since we only had a short few hours to explore, we jumped back in a taxi after lunch and returned to the MSC Bellissima.

Stay tuned for more captivating stories from our adventures around the World. Fresh new material is coming soon!

Bahrain is known for its gorgeous pearls. Bahrain has become less known for its aquatic gems and more for its oil refineries.
Thousands are now visiting Bahrain to see the collapsing ruins of the ancient civilizations of Dilmun, Qalat Al Bahrain's mighty fortress, the famous scuba diving sites and the picturesque desert towns and craft centers dotting the land.
Here are the Top 10 best places to visit in Bahrain.
Before we begin, why don’t you hit the subscribe button? And the bell notification icon so that you never miss any of our videos. Let’s begin.
Number 10. Al Jasra.
In the village of Al Jasra, which sits at the intersection of King Fahd Causeway and the straits of the western coast of Bahrain, you can continue looking for gorgeous handicrafts. For unwinding and relaxation, the center has a garden in the centre.
Number 9. Zallaq.
Zallaq hugs Bahrain's western coastline and you'll find limpid turquoise lagoons and date palms dotting the shore. This part of Bahrain is renowned for Al Jazaer Beach's white sands, Water sports, including jet skiing and kite surfing, are popular here, and there are barbecue pits all along the beach.
Number 8. Hamad Town.
Some of the cities in Bahrain are ancient wonders, while others, including Hamad Town, which dates back to the 1980s, are more modern. The city is renowned for its wacky roundabouts that dot the horizon, as well as the nearby Bahraini Formula One circuit.
Number 7. Isa Town.
Isa Town can look like it is simply made up of whitewashed villas and luxury homes. If you like football, it's also home to the gigantic Bahrain National Stadium.
Number 6. Hawar Islands.
Located at the southernmost point of the archipelago of Bahrain, the Hawar Islands are just across the coast from neighboring Qatar. Wildlife enthusiasts, as well as birds, may also spot the occasional Arabian Oryx.
Number 5. Muharraq.
Muharraq dates from the Dilmun Civilization. You can find a wealth of cafes with hookah pipes. It is certainly a place to visit that depicts Arab Gulf-style architecture to enjoy traditional cuisine.
Number 4. Amwaj Island.
The Juffair district is often thought of as just another extension of Manama's urban sprawl, but this used to be a completely separate part of Bahrain in fact. It is also the birthplace of the American Alley, an expatriate area of Manama popular for its bars and fast food restaurants, as the name implies.
Number 3. Juffair.
The Amwaj Islands are an archipelago off Bahrain's coast and offer a lesson in opulence in the Middle East. As is always the way here, the islands are built from 100% reclaimed land and you can find beautiful whitewashed towers as well as luxurious apartments here.
Number 2. Riffa.
Riffa is located in the heart of Bahrain, and before its big brother Manama usurped it, it used to be the largest city in the world. You'll find winding shopping streets and authentic Arabic bazaars that make this a perfect place to pick up some trinkets, such as pearl necklaces and spices from the Middle East.
Number 1. Manama.
Manama does not seem so interesting at first sight, and you might write it off as just another gilded metropolis that can be found all over the Middle East. You can find swish shopping centers, as well as luxurious resorts that nestle along the Gulf Coast, if you so choose.
What do you think of our list? Which of the above place you like the most? Let us know in the comment section below.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has many different attractions to cater to a myriad of interests. For history lovers, there is the rich heritage of ancient civilizations, which date back to over 5,000 years, with many temples and burial mounds to explore. A good place to start With is the Bahrain National Museum where you can learn about Bahrain’s rich history throughout the millennia.

Forts at Riffa, Arad and of course the Bahrain Fort itself are remarkable examples of ancient architecture. Closer to the present, historically speaking, you can visit the restored houses of Muharraq which depict Bahraini style of homes as they were during the last century. Or you can learn about the history of pearl diving at the pearl museum. More recent landmarks well worth the visit include Oil Well No. 1 and the 25 km King Fahd Causeway which links Bahrain to Saudi Arabia.

Nature lovers may visit the Al Areen wildlife sanctuary where they will see flamingos, ostriches, camels and the renowned Oryx; or take a trip to the centre of the Island and gaze in wonder at the Tree of Life which has survived for hundreds of years in the middle of the desert. If your interest is sports, then take a Friday trip to race course at Sakhir. And whilst you’re there, why not pop across to the Bahrain International Circuit for some motor sports fun, or enjoy the nearby water sports at the Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, the largest and most advanced water park in the Middle East.

Stamps and Currency collectors will have a field day at the stamps and currency museums. And for those of you interested to knowing more about Islam, then head for the Al Fateh Mosque in the new Juffair area where friendly guides are ready to enlighten you.

Tree of Life is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Bahrain. The exact age of the tree is not known, some experts assume it's more than 400 years old. The tree looks very spectacular in a desert landscape and it’s a miracle it has managed to survive in such harsh conditions. Sunset is usually considered the best time to visit the tree as Tree of Life looks particularly picturesque and you will be able to make stunning and memorable photos.

Manama is home to several important landmarks. The Al-Fateh Mosque is recognized as one of the biggest mosques in the world, and it can provide space for 7,000 visitors simultaneously. The dome of the mosque is worth a separate attention – the 60 ton heavy cupola is also the largest fiberglass dome in the world. Manama Souq, which is located right behind the building of Bab Al Bahrain, is a place where it’s possible to buy literally everything – from souvenirs and clothes to electronic goods and traditional jewelry.

Grand Mosque

Bahrain largest mosque is Al-Fatih Mosque. It was built in 1984 and can hold about 7000 worshipers at a time. It's possible to visit the mosque as a none-muslim. A guide will be provided free of charge and they will proudly point out that every bit of the mosque come from somewhere else in the world. The carpet from Ireland, the marble from Italy, the massive chandelier from Austria, the glass lamps from France, the wood for the pulpit (minbar) from India, and so on. It's a great way to get a introduction to Islam, if you don't much about it.

Bahrain Fort

Bahrain only has 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites and Bahrain Fort, Qal'at al-Bahrain, is deservingly one of them. This finely restored fort lies pretty on the waterfront with a backdrop of Manama skyline. It's real fort with moat and high protective walls. Evidence shows that the site has been occupied since 2300 BC, but the fort you see today is from the 16th century and built by the Portuguese. The grounds of the fort are popular for strolls and running at sunset. The villages right to the south of the fort as been known as painted village due to the pastel coloured murals on the houses, but they are now fainted, dusty and seem in disrepair – a stark contrast to the otherwise fine Bahrain Fort.

Manama Souq

Travellers to the Middle East are often attracted by the fables of exotic markets, locally known as Souqs. A hap-hazardly connected labyrinth of alleyways and stalls selling everything from rare oils to bizarre spices. Well, there aren't that many old-school markets left. The one in Manama is undoubtedly the closet things the country has to this type of portal to yesteryear. Bab al Bahrain (gate of Bahrain) is the entrance to the city's souq. And while you're more likely to find stalls with socks and underwear or cheap plastic toys from China, there are still a few hidden corners that would belong in the Arabian Nights. The best way to explore is to do away with any sort of map and wander until you're lost, then found, then lost again.
