And if you work for a company in North America, living in Latin America is an excellent choice due to the time zone.

And after doing some research, I came up with my top 10 destinations in South America for remote workers and digital nomads.

I work fully remote as an English teacher, and I moved to Colombia because I wanted to explore this beautiful country and improve my Spanish. So far, I've been having a great time here and I wish to stay in Colombia for a very long time.

10 Best Cities to Live in South America

What are the best cities to live in South America? Let me assure you that living in South America can be both fascinating and challenging, probably beyond what you’re used to in Europe or North America. Maybe you’re a remote worker desirous of relocating to a new base in South America. Whatever your circumstance, you’re in for a new lease of life that is both exciting and dazzling depending on where you live. After making thorough research, I hereby come up with a list of the 10 best cities to live in South America.
These cities are globally affordable and offer a reasonably high standard of living. The fact is that these cities offer you some kinds of life that you might not find in popular cities on other continents. Therefore, as we discuss them, think about which one of the 10 best cities to live in South America suits you.

10. Lima, Peru
Lima, the capital of Peru, is certainly one of the best cities to live in South America. If you want to enjoy an endless variety of foods in different tastes and at a low cost, Lima could be your choice. Passing through different corners of the city, the aroma of varieties of food will always grab your attention.
Even if you’re not a foodie, Lima offers a lot for anyone living in South America. It’s a large Pacific city with thousands of years of rich history and a vibrant culture being enjoyed by an active expat community. It's not a place for just work. Lima has access roads for visitors visiting famous places such as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The estimated cost of living in this the “City of Kings” is $1600
9. Cuenca, Ecuador
Well, I’ll talk about Quito later when I return to Ecuador. But Cuenca is a viable alternative for an expat considering the best cities to live in in South America, especially if your program favors Cuenca. This Ecuadorian third-largest city is a cultural hub where some of Ecuador’s major festivals take place. Beyond that, it offers various culinary options, scenery, and the best of ancient and modern architecture.
It’s a city where you don’t have to worry about the hassles of public transport. You can easily sightsee attractions such as the Andes mountains, Amazon rainforest, or Pacific Coast during your normal workdays. One major reason why this is one of the best cities for a foreigner living in South America is the low cost of living. The estimated average cost of living in Ecuador is USD700 per month.
8. Joao Pessoa, Brazil
Joao Pessoa is not a world-renown city. So let me take some time to tell you about this city and you’ll agree that it’s one of the best cities to live in South America. Joao Pessoa is the capital of the northeastern Brazilian Paraíba State.
While offering you every infrastructure you need to enjoy a city, it’s a less congested city. Thus, the air is clean, the roads are free, and the services are adequate. It’s such a naturally beautiful city where you will always be greeted with sights that can make you wish to enjoy the rest of your life there. But one very big factor favoring it as a great city to live in South America is that living there is much cheaper as the estimated cost of living is USD650 a month.
7. Cartagena, Colombia
The Colombian city of Cartagena with its residential population of some 1 million people is one of the best cities to live in South America. The country’s fifth-largest city, also the second-largest in the coastal region, covers an area of 221 square miles. Cartagena has been marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This alone should give you an idea of what awaits you if you choose that city as your residence. You can find everything you need including restaurants, worship centers, and stores on the cobble-stoned street of the old city that retains much of its original colonial architecture. One of the most attractive things about living in Colombia and its city of Cartagena is that the cost of living is very low, estimated at USD750.

15 Best Places to Visit in South America

What are the best places to visit in South America? Visitors to South America are in for a very rewarding experience. It’s a unique continent where everything is to a superlative degree. South America is where you’ll find the best and worst, the highest and the lowest, the hottest and coldest, the largest and the smallest, the rarest and the commonest, just to mention a few. This characteristic makes living in South America a fortunate deal. But what about those who are just unable to live in the continent who can only visit? This video presents the list of best places to visit in South America.
If you eventually decide to visit one day, you’ll see what the environmentalists praise and why? You’ll also see why shoppers travel long miles to the continent. Besides, you’ll get the chance to explore and bring back to life lost cities of ancient civilizations.

15. Colca Canyon
Ask tourists visiting Peru, the third most likely place you hear them mentioning is Colca Canyon in southern Peru, about 99 miles northwest of Arequipa. With a depth of about 3,300 to 6,600 feet, it’s one of the deepest canyons in the world.
It’s one of the best places to visit in South America. You can’t get tired of stunning scenic views in this canyon that is more than twice deeper than the U.S. Grand Canyon. You’ll fall in love with the sky as you look up from below.
14. San Pedro de Atacama
This Chilean town, and commune, is in El Loa Province, in Antofagasta Region. Located some 60 miles southeast of Calama and the Chuquicamata copper mine in the east of Antofagasta, it features R. P. Gustavo Le Paige Archaeological Museum. Tourists in South America throng here to learn about pre-Columbian culture from a large collection of relics and artifacts from that region.
This unique Atacama Desert is the driest non-polar desert in the world. It probably rains once in four years here. The soil in the desert is like that found on Mars. It is one of the best places to visit in South America.
13. Los Glaciares National Park
Los Glaciares National Park is an example of what I said at the onset about the continent in the extreme. However, it’s positive this time. It is Argentina's largest national park and home to the largest ice cap outside Antarctica and Greenland. Nothing is small about Los Glaciares National Park. For instance, the ice cap feeds 47 large glaciers. It’s also home to Lake Argentino which is the Argentine’s largest lake while it has a lot of ecology and biodiversity. You have to visit Los Glaciares National Park to get the full picture.
12. Tayrona National Park
The next of the 15 best places to visit in South America is also a park, this time a Colombian park. If you want to see how the environmental protection is combined with stunning views, go to this Colombia’s second most visited national park on the Caribbean coast.
Tayrona National Park, a protected marine reserve, houses great biodiversity in the flora and fauna. You will find up to over 300 species of birds, different mammals, and 70 kinds of bats. However, the best things marketing the park are those spectacular beaches in deep bays and mountains shaded by coconut palms.
11. Cusco, Peru
Let’s go back to Peru to see the next one of the best places to be in South America. Cusco, the historical capital of the country with its colorful historic past is one such place. It’s located at 11,000 feet elevation in the Andes Mountains. It was the capital of the mighty Inca Empire conquered by the Spanish. The relics of that past have put it on the list of tourist attractions as a place to visit in Peru and South America. The Spanish colonial heritages can still be found in the Old Town.

Let's start with one of my favorites and the one that I'm currently located, which is Costa Rica, the land of Pura Vida. One of the best places to visit is Manuel Antonio, which is a national park. With fantastic beaches, so you have a little bit of everything.

The next place I love here in Costa Rica is the Arenal Volcano.
You can enjoy a full crater volcano with hot springs and enjoy a lot of Adventure like the canopy tour hanging Bridges.

You can do rafting then you can go to another place which I love that it's Monteverde. Monteverde is a cloud forest. It's a little bit more chilly, but it's a fantastic place to enjoy nature and relax in the Pura Vida of Costa Rica.

Then you can, of course, relax on the famous beaches of Guanacaste like Papagayo golf or Tamarindo fantastic Paradise for surfing.

The 7 Countries of Central America

Did you know that Central America is made up of 7 different countries? It's true! The 7 Central American nations are: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Together, these countries make up the Central American isthmus (or the narrow strip of land between North and South America). Each of these countries has its own unique history and culture. They each have their own languages, food and customs as well. Some of them even have their own currency! So, today in this video, let’s learn all about these 7 countries that make up the entire Central America. Let’s begin, shall we!

1. Belize
Belize is a small Central American nation located on the eastern coast. It has a population of just under 400,000 people and covers an area of 8,867 square miles. The capital city is Belmopan, which is located in the central part of the country. The climate in Belize is tropical with average temperatures ranging from 24-32 °C (75-90 °F). There are two main seasons – wet and dry. The wet season runs from May to November and during this time heavy rains can cause flooding in some areas. The dry season runs from December to April when there tends to be less rainfall overall. Hurricane activity usually peaks between August and October so travellers should be aware of this if visiting during these months. There are many different things to see and do in Belize regardless of what your interests are. For those who love nature, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, bird watching, cave exploration etc. While history buffs will enjoy learning about Maya culture at one of the many archaeological sites scattered around the country such as Xunantunich or Caracol. And let’s not forget about all the activities that can be done on or near water – swimming, snorkelling, diving, fishing… the list goes on! No matter what you’re looking for, chances are good that you’ll find it here in beautiful Belize!

2. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a country in Central America with a population of 5 million. The country spans around a total area of 19,730 square miles and its capital city is San Jose. Costa Rica has a tropical climate and is home to many different kinds of animals including monkeys, sloths, and iguanas. The economy of Costa Rica relies heavily on tourism as well as agriculture and manufacturing. The history of Costa Rica begins with the native tribes who inhabited the land before European colonization. These indigenous peoples were eventually pushed out by Spanish settlers in the 16th century. For centuries thereafter, Costa Rica was largely controlled by Spain until it gained independence in 1821 along with other countries in Central America. Since then, Costa Rica has undergone various changes - most notably becoming a republic in 1848 and abolishing its army permanently in 1949. Today, Costa Ricans are known for their friendliness and love of nature - two things that make this small country an appealing tourist destination. In recent years, however, there have been some challenges to this image due to an increase in crime rates. Nevertheless, overall visitors still report having positive experiences when visiting this beautiful haven!

3. El Salvador
El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America, with a total land area of 8,124 square miles. It has a population of 6.7 million people and has its capital as San Salvador. The official language of El Salvador is Spanish, although there are also many speakers of indigenous languages such as Nahua and Maya. The majority of El Salvador's population is mestizo (of mixed European and Amerindian ancestry), but there are also significant numbers of whites (of European descent) and blacks (of African descent). Around 60% of the population lives in urban areas, while the rest prefer to live in rural areas. El Salvador has a tropical climate, with average temperatures ranging from 21°C to 27°C. The wet season lasts from May to October, while the dry season extends from November to April. Although it’s a tiny country, it is a haven for avid tourists due to its stunning beaches, lush rainforests and friendly people.
