The Top 7 Things to Do in Mozambique

For many years, Mozambique’s international reputation was marred by colonialism, civil war and natural disaster. Now, nearly a quarter of a century after the end of its most notorious conflict, the country is emerging as one of Southern Africa’s most rewarding tourism destinations. It is full of remarkably untouched wilderness areas, ranging from lush game reserves to sun-drenched tropical islands. The capital, Maputo, is a cosmopolitan city defined by its European architecture and diverse people; while cuisine all over the country is influenced by Mozambique’s Portuguese heritage. Here are eight of the best ways to spend your time in this newly rediscovered paradise.

1. Learn to Scuba Dive
2. Go Island Hopping
3. Look for Exotic Wildlife
4. Explore Lake Niassa
5. Discover the Country's Colonial Past
6. Try Deep Sea Fishing
7. Sample Mozambican Cuisine

REMOTE TRAVEL | Things you must do in MOZAMBIQUE - Staying at the ANANTARA BAZARUTO ISLAND

Want to visit Mozambique? Good idea, the beaches are wonderful there. As part of our African road trip, we finished up the mainland tour by visiting Anantara Bazaruto Island, one of the most beautiful island resorts in Africa. After a short flight and boat ride, we made it to the island property. Check out some of the incredible and unique animals we managed to see during our boat ride.

Mozambique is known for its gold, pirates and its island beauty. One of the most beautiful archipelagos in Mozambique is Bazaruto. This is also home to the luxurious Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort. With reefs surrounding the area, scuba and diving all around, you will be living the island life in no time.

???????????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????????????????? - ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ????????????????????

Hi, Everyone
In this video I will be exploring with top 10 Best places in Zimbabwe and plus a bonus at the end on the video so stay tuned to find out ????????????

Zimbabwe is a curious beast. Ravaged by wars and civil strife, it had a particularly tumultuous exit from the age of European colonialism in Africa. And while there are still lingering human rights complaints and authoritarian tendencies in the government here, the general consensus is that those dangers are slowly but surely subsiding. That means Zimbabwe is once again entering the safari fold, and beginning to re-magnetize intrepid travelers with the promise of its inselberg-studded backcountry, its teak forests and cypress-spattered hills; with its rugged Eastern Highlands where curious monkeys huddle against the cold breezes and its deep caves and underground riverways.

Of course, there are some mainstream attractions, not least of all the roaring wonder of Victoria Falls, and the up-and-coming metropolis of Harare – certainly one to watch! So, if you’re feeling adventurous and ready to throw caution to the wind, it’s worth considering this lost jewel of the African south for sure…

8 Things NOT TO Do in Mozambique!

Mozambique is unfortunately more known for its turmoil in its past, than for the beauty it hides within its borders and its people! This being said, as with all countries, there are some things that should be avoided. Here are 8 Things NOT TO Do in Mozambique!

1. Don't Travel Without Cash
Mozambique is still an underdeveloped country, while ATMs aren’t non-existent, they are few and far between. If you try to pay by credit card you’ll probably get laughed at!
They accept Mozambique Meticals, South African Rands, and US Dollars

2. Don’t Bother Looking For Wifi
Mozambique doesn’t have the infrastructure for broadband or wifi. If you need to stay connected, buy a pay as you go sim card which you’ll have to register at the shop and use mobile data, it’s cheap at 7 dollars for 5 GB and top-up cards are sold everywhere.

3. Don’t Use Public Transport!
The local buses or “chapas” are normally overcrowded, in bad condition, and the drivers aren’t the most prudent around. Accidents are common. It’s best to hire a car or private driver to get about.

4. Don’t Drink the Tap Water
As a general rule of thumb for travel, always drink bottled or filtered water. Most of the better hotels or hostels will have filtered water but always ask beforehand. Or just drink the national beer 2M pronounced “dosh eme”.

5. Don’t Trust the Police!
While not really corrupt they are underpaid, so if they can pick up some cash with a fake fine they will. Always ask for a receipt when being fined as this will make things official. If the policeman is in a gray uniform and asks you for ID never give him the original as you’ll probably have to pay him to get it back.

6. Don’t Show Your Valuables
As with every country in the world if you leave your valuables unattended, are careless with your handbag, walk down a dark alley alone, or carry your wallet in your back pocket, you will probably be robbed.

7. Don’t Forget Your Meds
Malaria is a big problem in Mozambique and mosquitos plentiful especially in the rainy season. Always take your malaria tablets, they are readily available in pharmacies without a prescription and cost between 4-7 dollars.

8. Don't Go in the Rainy Season
Mozambique is hot and humid, especially between December and April. Their winter season is between May and November and while it will still be hot there’s less chance of rain and the nights are cooler.

Which country should we do next?

Dreamy Mozambique surf trip - surfing & diving in beautiful Tofo & Tofino - Africa Travel - Pollywog

Pollywog surf travel presents Mozambique. Book your trip with us now.

Mozambique is a dream tropical surf destination once simply must travel to. Just one of the many places to visit and surf in Africa and one of the many reasons why you should plan a surf trip to Africa. Africa is one of the last places on earth with pristine, untouched beaches and surf breaks, which makes it one of the best places to visit for a unique surf trip experience.

In this video, we head up to Tofo in the middle of Moz with South African surfers Luke Patterson and Tanika Hoffman to find untapped, rustic beauty and experience the true essence of Africa and of course to score some epic waves and see some incredible marine wildlife along the way.

The roads are mainly dirt, winding through endless palm trees. Even the roads in the village of Tofo are still dirt roads. It is pretty remote, but that adds to the charm. Still, the town has a great energy, with plenty of restaurants serving fresh fish and bars serving ice cold 2M beer!

Surfing in Mozambique is a throwback to the past. The waves are largely uncrowded and the ocean is teeming with wildlife. The main wave is Tofino a right had point break that cooks when the conditions are right. It is a pretty consistent wave too and its possible to surf Tofino all year round. Tofino is probably the most famed wave in Mozambique, along with Ponto do Ouro. The winter months (May, June, July) bring the bigger swells from the south, but Mozambique often receives cyclone swells in the summer (Feb, March) which can create incredible surf conditions. Many South African surfers will drive the long journey chasing cyclone swells up the coast.

Tofo, closer to town is a lot more sheltered and the more mellow wave is often good for longboarding or learning to surf. Tofo is also renowned for incredible diving, especially swimming with Whale sharks and Manta Rays.

Watch Luke Patterson getting barreled and Tanika Hoffman longboarding in Tofo. After a long day of surfing in the hot African sun, we sip on fresh coconuts and just relax, wearing boardshorts and bikini, this is the idyllic summer life. Tofo is a great place to chill out and unwind.

Further north, it gets even more rustic, but no less beautiful. The coast is dotted with great waves, but you need the right car to access them. Surfing in Mozambique is nothing short of an adventure. Places like Pomene are incredibly picturesque and so remote they don't have electricity, but that is one of the reasons to visit... they help you to connect with Africa.

A surf trip to Africa is a unique experience and is a must do on any surf travel bucket list. The people of Mozambique are beautiful and friendly. The scenery uniquely African, and the waves... largely untouched and uncrowded.

We do recommend taking a guide up to Mozambique, as the road is long and the waves sometimes hard to find, but with the right local knowledge, Mozambique (and Africa in general) is a surf paradise waiting to be explored. Chat to Pollywog to book your dream African surf trip.

Maputo (Things to do - Places to Visit) - MAPUTO Top Tourist Places
Capital of Mozambique

Maputo, capital of East Africa’s Mozambique, is an Indian Ocean port with preserved Portuguese colonial architecture. Many turn-of-the-century buildings are in the downtown jacaranda-lined Baixa neighborhood.

The bronze-domed CFM Maputo Railway Station, for example, was completed in 1916. The Baixa also has an expansive Municipal Market. The neoclassical City Hall is in the nearby Praça da Independência square.

Mozambique Travel Guide - An African Adventure

Mozambique Travel Guide - An African Adventure

Mozambique is a country on the Indian Ocean coast of Southern Africa bordered by South Africa to the south, Tanzania to the north and with inland borders with Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland. Mozambique's eastern coastline along the Indian Ocean is more than 1,000 km long, a fantastic draw for scuba divers, fishermen, sailors and beach lovers.

From the 2,436 m Monte Binga peak to the stunning beaches along the coast, Mozambique is a country of contrasts. As well as some of the best colonial era architecture and relics to be found on the continent, Mozambique has also preserved its African cultural heritage, which can be experienced through art, music and food.

Mozambique stretches for 1,535 mi (2,470 km) along Africa's southeast coast. It is nearly twice the size of California. Tanzania is to the north; Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to the west; and South Africa and Swaziland to the south. The country is generally a low-lying plateau broken up by 25 sizeable rivers that flow into the Indian Ocean. The largest is the Zambezi, which provides access to central Africa. In the interior, several chains of mountains form the backbone of the country.

Almost all of Mozambique falls within the tropics and as such, Mozambique features a mostly tropical climate. Along the coast, Mozambique has a warm, tropical climate. Evenings are rarely cold, except for a few nights in June and July and the rainfall isn't too high. In summer, temperatures can soar and the humidity levels rise. Temperatures are typically higher in the north, around Pemba and the Zambezi.

Mozambique has 10 provinces that can be grouped into the following three regions:

Northern Mozambique
Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa provinces.

Central Mozambique
Manica, Sofala, Tete and Zambézia provinces.

Southern Mozambique
Gaza, Inhambane Vilankulo and the Bazaruto National Sea Park, and Maputo provinces.

Most known cities of Mozambique :

Maputo - the thriving capital in the far south of the country.

Beira - a busy port town and capital of Sofala Province.

Vilanculos Bazaruto Archipelago the largest sea park on the African coast

Inhambane - a pretty historic town on a bay.

Nampula - an industrial city in the north and capital of Nampula Province.

The sights in Mozambique range from historical attractions to natural wonders that will take your breath away. The beautiful clear blue ocean is the perfect setting for a range of water sports. The coastline stretches for 2500 km, providing an abundance of unspoiled beaches to explore. Mozambique is a vibrant country from the bustling cities to the fishing villages.

As a country the Portuguese occupation has a profound impact on local foods that has produced some of the most unique and interesting cuisine within Southern Africa. Towards the coast a great deal of seafood is used within even the most basic of dishes, however, in land the maize based porridges common throughout Africa becomes staple but with some Portuguese flair.

Accommodation ranges from inexpensive guesthouses and backpacker orientated accommodation through to some of the most expensive resort accommodation in the region. Maputo, Tofo Beach, Vilanculos and Pemba have several backpacker lodges each and are geared up for the budget traveler. There are some backpacker options elsewhere in the country but often the only option for a budget traveler will be transient labor guesthouses or cheap hotels.
