No One Goes to Tonga for a Tropical Vacation - Why Not?

Tonga doesn't receive much tourism these days, but we found a convenient and affordable island resort named Big Mama's (Pangaimotu Island) right off the main island. It's a cheap tropical island destination that is honestly underrated!

For $25 USD, they will ferry you over to the island, feed you lunch, and ferry you back. While on the island, you can snorkel/dive around massive shipwrecks, go for swims in calm waters, tan on the sun deck, play volleyball, lounge in a hammock - basically all the tropical island type of activities that anyone would want to do.

On top of that, they have drinks, of course, which is always a great addition!

Hope you enjoyed our little tropical island travel vlog, if so, feel free to subscribe for more:

OMG GUYS! The last 3 days of my life have been spent in the world's least visited country called Nauru in the Pacific Islands. Have you ever heard of Nauru before? Less than 200 tourists a YEAR visit this tiny-island nation called Nauru of 10,000 residents, and it's a fascinating place.

If you know me, then you'll know that nothing excites me more than visiting obscure places… Nauru is my 155th country, and maybe the most interesting one yet, and I cannot wait to tell you all about it!! PSA: NAURU IS AMAZING!

Hi there ! We are Jo and Rob, a slightly crazy husband and wife team, who decided on a whim to sell up and set sail . We had no prior sailing experience when we bought out 40ft catamaran 'Double Trouble' , but hey, mere details right? We moved onboard in January 2017 and have been learning ever since. We love our life , both on and under the oceans. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment ,so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. No fishing rods for us . This Country Has 79 Years Left to Live

Climate change never felt more real to my eyes until I arrived here in KIRIBATI - a small island nation in the Central Pacific Ocean.

The rising sea levels are quickly shrinking this country, which has a peak altitude of 3 meters. It's projected to be entirely underwater by the year 2100.

While many countries are feeling the impacts of climate change, nobody is more threatened right now than the 100,000+ residents of Kiribati.

The question now becomes, how do we prevent the people here from becoming climate refugees? The only 4 options I can think of are the following:

1. Build a higher sea wall (which will cost billions of USD)
2. Buy land overseas for them to relocate (will also cost a fortune)
3. Send more Kiribati citizens abroad (i.e. Australia and New Zealand) for jobs, and they can slowly adapt to a new life
4. Boost tourism in Kiribati so people can see firsthand the effects of climate change, which will also pump money back into the economy

Would love to get your thoughts on what we can do to help the wonderful people of Kiribati. I encourage you all to get creative and share your best solutions below. I will be reading and responding to as many comments as I can, and I encourage you to do the same. This is important.

Tonga Life: Sunday Life and Food

Tonga's sunday life usually involves feast and eating. Most of the families cook and prepare food for this day because this is the time that all family members are present. They usually have lunch after they attend their church services.

BULA from one of my all-time favorite countries -- FIJI!

I am here for a third visit -- but this time is just a 24-hour layover en route from Micronesia to Tuvalu -- so I decided to make a 5th episode of my favorite series, seeing how far I can maximize $100 in 24 hours!

Many people think that Fiji is so expensive (and it certainly can be)... but if you live like a local, then I find it to be cheaper than anywhere else in the Pacific.

Do you have any questions about traveling to Fiji? Comment them below and I'll get back to you!

Sailing to minerva reef, an underwater paradise Vlog 88

Minerva reef is an incredible parcel of paradise conveniently located 250 miles south of Tonga, making it a great anchorage to break up a yacht's passage from Tonga to NZ. There's no shelter as such, just a ring of reef with white sand and coral inside, luckily we had a few days of perfect calm weather to make the most of our stop in Minerva. These were idyllic days, snorkeling, spear fishing and hunting for crayfish. A most enjoyable few days rest and a seafood feast! We were not alone, there were 12 other boats in the anchorage, which shows just how popular this route is for yachts at this time of year, we also had the New Zealand Air Force One Orion fly over and request the names of all the boats and whether we had submitted our pre-arrival form to NZ customs! Efficient work by our home country!

We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau.
We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day!

We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand.

We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have?

Thanks and enjoy.

Why I Really Don't Like This Country ????????

UPDATE: I WENT BACK TO BRUNEI TO GIVE IT A 2ND CHANCE!

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of BRUNEI is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Have you ever visited any countries that you didn't enjoy? Please share below, I'm curious to know.

Our No. 1 pick for yachting in the Pacific Vlog 85

We finally sailed to Vava'u in Tonga! This is a place we have been looking forward to returning to ever since we had an amazing dive holiday here 4 years ago, we knew it was choc full of amazing dive spots, idyllic beaches and best of all for yachties - over 40 anchorages, many people choose to live on their yachts here and we can see why. It was good to see on our dives that the coral is still vibrant and healthy here, the beaches and water clarity are amazing and the air is filled with the sound of birdsong and insects at night - always a good sign of a healthy ecosystem. In this episode we revisit some old favourite spots, find some new ones and basically show you the best of Vava'u - enjoy!

Ha'api our happy place! (Whales, leopard sharks, swim throughs) Vlog 86

The Ha'api island group in Tonga (pronounced Ha-pie) is one of the jewels of the Pacific, the coral is relatively unspoiled, whales abound and the white sandy beaches beckon. There are over 60 islands in the group but only 17 are inhabited so it's easy to find your own deserted tropical island, this is the place to come if you want to get away from it all!! As keen divers and free divers we especially enjoyed the underwater topography of Ha'api, this is the place where caves and rock tunnels littered with coral tempt the adventurous diver in for a swim through - our daughter Bella is especially good at this! We also got to spot our first ever leopard shark (one of natures wonders) and of course we saw whales and even managed a quick swim with them!

We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau.
