If organization and comfort matter more to you than fully optimizing every inch of your carry-on allowance, the Tom Bihn Synik might be for you. This 30-liter travel backpack is the next iteration of the original Tom Bihn Synapse. Today, we’re reviewing the 30-liter Synik, but Tom Bihn also has this pack available in a 22-liter version.

We love that Tom Bihn is a relatively “underground” company that makes all its products right here in the USA. If you've heard of the brand, you’re likely a fan or you’re just really into bags—and from our experience, this is the sort of brand people are super excited to talk about when you ask or comment on their gear at the airport. They’ve got a great community of gear nuts, and that’s not something we can say about every brand we test.

Tom Bihn has taken the Synapse, an already great bag, and improved it even more than they have in previous iterations to create the Synik. Although we have a couple of small nitpicks with the bag, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. If you're the type of person who likes bags with a lot of organization, plenty of customization options, and you don't need a giant rectangle to completely optimize your carry-on travel, the Tom Bihn Synik 30 is an excellent choice.

Tom Bihn Synapse 25 Review | Innovative Minimal One Bag Travel Backpack With Accessories

The Tom Bihn Synapse 25 offers a ton of internal organization and innovative thinking that puts it in a league of its own, though, we do have a couple gripes with the main compartment. View Our Full Review:

0:00 - Intro
0:35 - Material & Aesthetic
3:47 - External Components
5:47 - Inside the Pack
11:18 - Durability & Testing
11:51 - Pros & Cons
12:23 - The Verdict

The Tom Bihn Synapse 25 is a travel pack that consists of a classic design that has lasted through the ages plus a whole bunch of innovative thinking. It’s made by a reputable brand that comes highly recommended from friends and folks in the backpack space, so we’ve been excited to get our hands on this particular pack and give it a good test run.

At the time of this review, the Synapse is available in two sizes—the original 19-liter version and the 25-liter version that we’ve been testing. Overall, there are a lot of similarities between the two bags, but we're going to be more focused on the 25-liter version for this review.

Tom Bihn puts a ton of care, effort, and detail into the decisions they make when creating packs, and the Synapse 25 is no exception. They've continuously made minor improvements over the years that add up to huge gains that you can really feel when you're using the bag. Although we have a couple gripes within the main compartment and don't love the look of the pack, the overall benefits greatly outshine these gripes. We think this system could work perfectly for you with the right gear and a bit of strategic planning.

Tom Bihn Synik 30 Backpack: It's Time To Grow Up!!

Thank you for watching... In this video I review the Tom Bihn Synik 30. This pack has been out for while now and Tom Bihn has a cult like following. For me though, the Synik represented an older persons backpack. Not to be an ageist but the design didn't really appeal to me. After using the bag I have to admit that the functionality is superior to most EDC and smaller travel bags on the market today. In short, I need to grow and I have learn to always choose function over appearance in my EDC system.

Tom Bihn Synik 30 - What I fit during my initial loadup

Hey all, I got my Tom Bihn Synik 30 backpack this week, and I thought I’d share what I was able to fit in it. Overall, this is a great onebag travel bag, and I was able to fit the stuff I'd need to a small work trip with no problems.

This was done in one take, so pardon me if I may have messed up any phrasing or units. The water bottle is a 20oz insulated Camelbak Chute, not 20l.

Is the Tom Bihn Synik 22 closer in size to the Synapse 19 or the Synapse 25?

There has been a lot of confusion about whether getting the Synik 22 is equivalent to a smaller synapse 25 or if it’s a lot closer to the synapse 19. In this video I compare these three bags and see what we can fit in them so that you can help determine whether the Synik 22 fits what you want it to fit.
