Tobago Cays 4K Uncut Ep.1

We SAILED to Tobago Cays ???????????? Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

We set out from union island and headed across to Tobago Cays

This has been a bucket list destination for quite some time. We have always been fascinated by the incredible blue water, reef and being able to swim with the elusive turtles we’ve been trying to catch a glimpse of since arriving in the Caribbean Sea.
We always thought people’s videos were obviously very over edited because the colours were way too bright and blue.
Welll… as we sailed towards Tobago Cays the colours started to change, it had us all hanging over the side of Saoirse catching a glimpse of the suddenly turquoise water. Little did we know what we were in for when we dropped anchor and had a look around at this incredible island paradise. The water was crystal clear, and an unbelievable turquoise that you didn’t look real, I kept reaching to take my sunglasses off in the effort to make sure i
Was seeing the true colours but I wasn’t wearing any sunglasses.

Trying to get video of this amazing destination was hard because we constantly felt like we needed to adjust settings to bring down the saturation but it wasn’t the settings of the camera it was just what was actually in-front of us.

Tobago Cays is located in Saint Vincent and grenadines. It is part of the tobago cays marine park.

It is home to a series of globally significant habitats including coral reefs, sea turtle nesting sites and feeding areas, aswell as small systems of mangroves.

The only thing protecting this area is the horse shoe reef that surrounds the islands. That is the only form of protection between tobago keys and the North West coast of Africa. I think that is pretty incredible. You are able to anchor on the windward side of the cays because of the protection from the coral reef. It is still bumpy and the wind still howls that side but it is so worth it for the view.

We took shelter behind Petite Bateau because there was some swell and wind coming through. There was also a massive amount of yachts on the other side of the park. We picked up a beautiful and new mooring ball. We were told that they were 3 weeks old. We guess this came into effect around the same time the fees went up over new years.

We took the dingy across to Baradal , it is known for the turtle sightings and it is cordoned off by bouys around the south side of the island.

There is growing evidence that this ecosystem is being affected by non-sustainable use and natural environmental impacts. Significant sources of natural threats to corals are storm damage and white band disease and bleaching.

The impacts associated with visiting yachts are anchor damage to sea grass and coral aswell as yachts running aground, snorkeling and diving, and bilge and wastewater discharge from yachts.
We noticed while we we in the park and snorkelling the lack of knowledge people have about the coral eco systems. While we were snorkeling we saw Many people stand on the coral aswell as touch it.

There has been a recent uproar about the Tobago Cays marine park because of the increase in marine park fees. You used to be able to anchor for free and only pay per person but now they charge you for anchoring too. There is no aproblem with charging to be in a marine park especially one as beautiful as tobago cays but maybe putting some money back into pamphlets that are given out to visiting yachts on how to protect the marine park and it’s eco system would help enlighten people about how to treat it.

Our stay in Tobago Cays was nothing short of magical. We hope to head back there again.

This small group of five islands is the definition of paradise. Just calm palm tree covered beaches and crystal clear water. You'll find them in the southern end of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines chain, right next to Mayreau.

The Tobago Cays are a great anchorage for boaters and offers great snorkeling with lots of rays and sea turtles.

I (Ryan) got there via a tall ship cruise aboard the Diamant from Island Windjammers. An experience I highly recommend.

Enjoy the views!

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.

MEET US!

Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.

I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.

When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.

Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.

I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!

Caribbean – Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – Tobago Cays

The Tobago Cays are an archipelago located in the Southern Grenadines of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines comprising five small islands and extensive coral reefs. The cays - Petit Rameau, Petit Bateau, Baradal, Petit Tabac and Jamesby - are a popular tourism destination.

The Tobago Cays are now the key element of the Tobago Cays Marine Park run and owned by the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines government. The marine park consists of a 1,400-acre (5.7 km2) sand-bottom lagoon which encompasses the five cays, the inhabited island of Mayreau and the 4 km Horseshoe Reef. The marine park was listed as a regionally significant ecosystem under the SPAW Protocol in December 2014.[1] The most extensive and well-developed coral reef complexes in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines occur on shallow shelves around the windward sides of Mayreau and Union islands and the cays themselves. In addition, principal vegetation types include beach vegetation and dry forest. With the exception of a small mangrove in Petit Rameau and salt pond in Mayreau, there are no wetlands in the cays.

Major users of the area include: cruise ships (an estimated 50,000 visitors each year of which 10,000 visit the cays); yachts (an estimated 3,000 yachts anchor in the lagoon each year); day charters (from nearby hotels); sport divers and snorkelers; and fishing enthusiasts.

Mayereau (Tobago cays )

Mayereau is part of the Tobago cays (St Vincent) in the Caribbean.
It is the smallest inhabited island in the caribbean.

Podczas obu rejsów będziemy eksplorować Karaiby pomiędzy Antiguą a Grenadą. Na San Vincent odwiedzimy zatokę Wallilabou, gdzie powstawały sceny do filmu Piraci z Karaibów. Tobago Cays to fantastyczne miejsca do nurkowania, więc będzie okazja, aby odwiedzić tu świat podwodny.

Rejsy Karaiby to impreza, którą kierujemy do wszystkich, którzy chcieliby zasmakować odrobiny egzotyki i odkryć rajskie zakątki Wysp Karaibskich.
