Tiny Tour | Montserrat Spain | A 1000 year old Monastery in the mountains 2020

Hi guys, today we visited the monastery of Santa María de Montserrat (in Catalan , Monestir de Santa Maria de Montserrat ). it is a Benedictine abbey located in the mountain of Montserrat , belongs to the region of Bages, in the province of Barcelona, at a height of 720 meters above the level of the sea. It is a symbol for Catalonia and has become a pilgrimage point for believers and a must for tourists.
In 1025, Oliba, Abbot of Ripoll and Bishop of Vic, together founded a new monastery at the hermitage of Santa Maria de Montserrat. The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin.
In 1409 the monastery of Montserrat became an independent abbey. From 1493 to 1835, a period in which the monastery underwent great reforms, growing and increasing in splendour, Montserrat was part of the Valladolid Congregation.

Tiny Tour | Poblet Spain | The Royal Monastery of Poblet from 12th Century | 2020 Dec

The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet is a monastery of the Cistercian order founded in 1150 . It is located at the foot of the Prades mountains, in the Conca de Barberà region. Poblet is an impressive architectural ensemble and can be counted among the most important monastic complexes in Europe. It is, in fact, the largest inhabited monastic complex on the European continent. Since the Middle Ages, it has been an important symbolic reference for the countries of the ancient Crown of Aragon.
In 1921, after the visit of King Alfonso XIII, it was declared a National Monument by the Spanish Government. In 1991 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The history of the monastery of Poblet has been closely linked to that of the rest of Catalonia. The Royal Monastery of Poblet was founded on August 18, 1150, when Ramon Berenguer IV, count of Barcelona, after completing the conquest of Lleida to the Saracens, gave the abbey of Fontfreda some lands of the Conca de Barberà, so that they established a Cistercian monastery there.
In 1809 the monastery was sacked by the French and in 1811 confiscated, but in 1813 the monks were able to relocate there.
The main church of Poblet (Santa Maria) and other places of the monastery served as burial places for monarchs, children and other people of the Crown of Aragon, members of other important noble lineages, abbots and monks of the monastery and other prominent people.
The tombs of this pantheon contain the remains of the following royal persons:
• Arch next to the Epistle (right) of the High Altar
1. King Alfonso the Chaste (part of the remains are in Santa Maria de Vilabertran ).
2. King John the Hunter .
3. Mata d'Armanyac , first wife of King John.
4. Violant de Bar , second wife of King John.
5. King John the Great .
6. Joana Enríquez , second wife of king Joan.
• Arch next to the Gospel (left) of the High Altar
1. King James the Conqueror .
2. King Peter the Ceremonious .
3. Maria de Navarra , first wife of king Pere.
4. Eleanor of Portugal , second wife of King Peter.
5. Eleanor of Sicily , third wife of King Peter.
6. King Ferdinand of Antequera .
• Outside the royal arches
1. King Alfonso the Magnanimous . (*)
2. King Martí l'Humà .

Tiny Tour | Tárrega Spain | Visit the Historic Center of a 1000-year-old city 2020 Sep

Tárrega is a municipality in the province of Lerida in Catalonia. It is the capital of the Urgel region, with a population of 16,670 inhabitants and an area of 88 km². It is the second city in terms of extension in the province of Lleida. The main economic activities are commerce and the food and metallurgical industries.
Tárrega has a continental Mediterranean climate, with summer drought and little abundant rains the rest of the year, but concentrated in very few days of very intense precipitation. Temperatures are warm in summer and cold in winter, with little daily temperature oscillation, especially in winter.
The origin of the stable settlement of Tárrega corresponds to the time of Muslim rule, when the castle and the walls were built in the 10th century. In the middle of the 11th century, the Count of Barcelona Ramón Berenguer I conquered his castle from the Muslims. 4 Its strategic location favored growth during the Middle Ages, especially until the 14th century.
Most of the important buildings, such as the church of San Antonio, the town hall or the church of Carmen, were built during the 17th century, a period of Gothic influence .
The 19th century saw the inauguration of the Manresa-Tárrega- Lérida railway line (1862), the granting of the title of city by Alfonso XII (1884), the beginnings of construction of a series of basic infrastructures such as electricity and telephone, and the development of county roads.

Tiny Tour | Santes Creus Spain | The Royal Monastery of Santes Creus from 12th century | 2020 Nov

The Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Santes Creus is an abbey Cistercian built from the century xii, located in the municipality of Aiguamurcia, in the province of Tarragona, Spain. It was in the 13th century when under the patronage of Pedro III of Aragon who expressed his desire to be buried in the monastery, the royal pantheon was built, in which his son King Jaime II was buried. Part of the nobility followed this medieval custom and chose this place for their eternal rest, achieving the monastery the time of maximum splendor and greatness thanks to the numerous donations received, until the decision of Pedro IV of Aragon in 1340 to install the pantheon of the monarchy in the monastery of Poblet.
The monastery's origins date to 1150, when the Lords of Montagut and Albà donated the village of Santes Creus to the monks of Valldaura. The papal decree that was required to establish a monastery was made by Pope Alexander II, and construction of the monastery began in 1174. The complex was completed in 1225.
During the 17th and 18th century, expansion and reform works continued, adding new exterior units. This continuous activity was abruptly cut short in 1835 with the confiscation of Mendizábal, moment in which the monastery suffers the abandonment by the Cistercian community and is doomed to ruin. National Monument in 1921, it has undergone successive restoration and refurbishment, and today place of cultural events of various kinds under management of the Generalitat of Catalonia from 1981.

Montserrat, Barcelona in 4K

I'm so happy I made the decision to visit Montserrat while I was staying in Barcelona. It will take your breath away, and I mean literally. First taking the funicular up the mountain is really amazing (and a bit scary). Then walking on the small city that sits on a rock is somewhat hard to believe. The cheery on top of my day trip was flying my drone. I'm so glad I was able to capture a perspective that would be impossible from the ground. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Montserrat, Barcelona | The Sacred Mountains of Calatonia, Spain

While staying in Barcelona, we decided to head out to the Catalan Pre-Coastal Mountain Range of the province Barcelona in Spain. Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), Montgrós (1,120 m) and Miranda de les Agulles (903 m). It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary.

In this 4K video, we booked a hiking tour to Sant Jeroni, the highest point via Airbnb and had a great time with Jamie, the host of this tour. You can find him on:

As you can see, the weather wasn't the best, it was raining and we didn't have jackets with us, but it also gave the tour a special vibe.
Fantastic experience, as a mountain lover I can only recommend this climbing tour.

Montserrat Monastery in Catalonia, Spain

Vlog # 25 (Pls watch in HD or 720p) - This is the continuation of our Barcelona trip. Visiting the Montserrat Monastery was one of the reasons why we traveled to Spain. It's been a dream of mine to visit at least one monastery in my lifetime, and I must say, having fulfilled that is something I am very grateful for.

The Montserrat Monastery is also known as the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, located near the top of the Montserrat Mountain in Monistrol de Montserrat in Catalonia, Spain. it is part of the Order of St. Benedict and also home to the Virgin of Montserrat and the Basilica of Montserrat.

It was built around the 11th century and monks still reside in the Monastery and hold services. It can be reached via public transportation and private vehicles. We took the train from the Placa Espana station from Barcelona and alighted at the Monistrol station where we took the Cremallera going up to the mountain. There is an option to take the cable car which was the view of the other side of the mountain but it was a shorter ride. We wanted to sit longer on the train and view the surrounding area as the train traverse the side of the mountain before reaching the stop at the Monastery. Another funicular can be taken to further reach the upper part of the mountain where you can see the cave and check out the views at the top.
