Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan - Trekking to the SPECTACULAR Monastery on a Cliff! (Final Day in Bhutan)

Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan is one of the most famous attractions, and the beauty is mind-blowing!

On Day 19 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we dedicated the entire day to trekking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan (Paro Taktsang in Bhutanese Dzongkha), which sits literally on the edge of a cliff. The hike takes about 3 - 4 hours or so, and since I wanted to beat the main crowds, my wife and I left from the hotel quite early to get a head start. It worked out quite well, because we were some of the only people on the trail that early in the morning. The fresh air was amazing. We wound our way along the trail, and soon we could get amazing views of Tiger’s Nest hidden in the clouds and on the side of the cliff.

The trail, although steep, isn’t really dangerous in any parts, as long as you keep your eye on the trail and don’t try to get too close to the edge. At the top of Tiger’s Nest Monastery they don’t allow any photography, so you have to check in your bag. We walked around the monastery for a little while, ate some snacks, and then headed down.

Despite Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan being one of the most famous attractions and icons of Bhutan, it really is spectacular.

It’s typically recommended that you visit Tiger’s Nest at the end of your trip to Bhutan so that you acclimatize better to the elevation.

The complete guide to hiking to the Tiger's Nest, Bhutan (EP1 of Bhutan)

Hey. This is the first video we made for our Bhutan trip - Tiger’s Nest, and we can’t wait to share it with you all!
The Monastery is the most sacred place for Buddhists and the most important landmark for tourists.
We hiked up to 3000m and were rewarded with magnificent mountain vistas, incredible architecture, intricate sculptures, and fascinating mythology tales.

We had heard about it so much- a place for the Buddhist to pay a pilgrimage in his lifetime, a temple with mystical legends, an unusual architecture that build in a cave at a remote location, the spectacular view of the surrounding mountain ranges and a sight o immerse in the Bhutanese culture and spiritual beliefs.

We also write an accompanied blog post. There is much more information there and with numerous images. Here is the link:

The Most Spiritual Hike! (Tiger's Nest, Bhutan)

???? My JUST GO APP is here! Connect w/ travelers for free:

WOWOWOW! I just completed the most amazing, spiritual and life-changing hike up to the famous Tiger's Nest near Paro, Bhutan. It's my last day in the country of Bhutan, and this has absolutely been the highlight thus far.

Tiger's Nest is the name of a 17th Century Monastery complex, which has 9 temples and sits on top of a very steep cliff overlooking Western Bhutan. It's one of the most remarkable places I've seen in all of my travels.

At the start of the 12km hike, you can't anything because of the low hanging clouds, which swallow the green mountains. As you hike up and up, you will find a variety of Buddhist temples, waterfalls, and prayer flags decorating the sidelines. Monks are seen everywhere practicing their rituals, as this is one of the most sacred sites in all of Buddhism. The fact that it's currently rainy season makes this hike 3X as hard, as we trekked for hours and hours uphill in sloppy wet mud.

And then, BOOM, the first sight of Tiger's Nest is something I'll never forget. Ever. BHUTAN IS AMAZING!!

Thank you to all of my new Bhutanese friends who made this past week so special for me, and I hope to be back again for round 2 soon!

We figured out the only way to experience Bhutan’s famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery ALL alone, and it was SO WORTH IT. This awesome experience was organized by Breathe Bhutan, & we highly recommend them!

We hiked straight up over 4,000 feet (The Bumdra Trek) to a campsite in the middle of the stunning Himalayan Mountains of Bhutan. The reason we wanted to do this overnight hike was so that we could wake up at sunrise and be the first to hike down to visit the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. We thought that would be the highlight of the trip, but it turned out to be something entirely different :)

The REAL story of Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan!

Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang, is a renowned Buddhist monastery and sacred pilgrimage site located in Bhutan, perched dramatically on the edge of a steep cliff at an altitude of about 3,120 meters (10,240 feet). The monastery is situated in the Paro Valley, surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Himalayan mountains.

Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, the spiritual figure who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, meditated here in the 8th century, riding on the back of a tigress, hence the name Tiger's Nest. The monastery consists of a series of temples and caves, all interconnected by stone steps and narrow paths carved into the cliffside.

Visiting Tiger's Nest requires a challenging hike that takes around 2-3 hours each way, passing through lush forests and offering breathtaking views of the valley below. Pilgrims and tourists alike undertake this spiritual journey, finding solace and inspiration in the serene surroundings and religious significance of the site.

Tiger's Nest is not only a symbol of Bhutanese cultural and religious heritage but also a testament to the country's commitment to preserving its ancient traditions and natural beauty. It has become one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan, drawing visitors from all over the world to witness its unique charm and spiritual significance.

Paro Taktsang | Tiger’s Nest -Trekking to a majestical monastery on a cliff in Bhutan 2020

#Bhutan #Paro #Tiger’sNest
Here’s presenting the last part of my Bhutan trip in which we have done Tiger’s Nest Trekking a majestical monastery on a cliff. we have started our journey from Punakha the drive from Punakha took about 4 hours.

The place where I stayed in Paro is called Ama’s Village Lodge.
The cost of entry to Taktsang Goempa is INR 500

Paro is a valley town in Bhutan, west of the capital, Thimphu. It is the site of the country’s only international airport and is also known for the many sacred sites in the area. North of town, the Taktsang Palphug (Tiger’s Nest) monastery clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley. Northwest of here are the remains of a defensive fortress, Drukgyel Dzong, dating from the 17th century.

Paro Taktsang is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and the temple complex is located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for Four Months in the 8th century.

Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.

Trek to Taktsang Monastery of Bhutan

Taktsang Palphug Monastery– the common local name of it is Paro Taktsang. It is a famous Buddhist sacred temple located on the upper Paro hills. The temple was built in 1692, near the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave. As per the legend, Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to this place from Tibet on the back of a tigress. That is the reason this place is also known as Tiger’s nest. It is a wonderful trek route also.
