Tianmen Mountain Cableway is the world's longest single-line circulating high mountain cableway, with a length of 7454 meters, a height difference of 1277 meters, and a one-way running time of 24 minutes. It can bring tourists directly into the green embrace of the original sky garden from the modern urban atmosphere.

- Tianmen Mountain Cableway integrates the world's most advanced passenger cableway technology. There are 57 brackets in the cableway, including 3 horizontal rescue brackets. The brackets are produced in China. The main equipment is supplied by French POMA company. In France, 98 cars are from Swiss CWA company. They are designed according to European standards. (increased to 113 later). The ropeway steel rope is from France, it is 6 × 36WS type, the diameter is 50.5 mm, the weight per meter is 10 kg, and the cable distance is 6.2 meters. There are a total of 96 cable pressing pulleys and 16 lifting pulleys on the climbing bracket.

- The cable tensioning system of the cableway adopts the hydraulic tensioning method and sets up an intermediate drive station. The ropeway runs in a clockwise direction, with a running speed of 6 meters per second, and the speed drops to 0.3 meters per second when disengaging. Tianmen Mountain (Chinese: 天門山; pinyin: Tiānmén Shān) is a mountain located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, China.

A cablecar was constructed in 2005[1] by the French company Poma from nearby Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of the mountain. Tianmen Mountain Cableway is claimed in tourist publications as the longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world, with 98 cars and a total length of 7,455 m (24,459 ft) and ascent of 1,279 m (4,196 ft). The highest gradient is 37 degrees. Tourists can walk on kilometres of paths built onto the cliff face at the top of the mountain, including sections with glass floors. An 11 km (7 mi) road with 99 bends also reaches the top of the mountain and takes visitors to Tianmen cave, a natural hole in the mountain of a height of 131.5 m (431.4 ft).[2]

A large temple is also located on the summit with chairlift or footpath access. The original temple here was built in the Tang Dynasty. Today a more recent construction with Tang dynasty architecture occupies the site and includes a vegetarian restaurant in the 10000 sq mi of setting.

The World Wingsuit League held the first and second World Wingsuit Championships in Tianmen. On October 8, 2013, during a training jump for the second world championships, Viktor Kováts plunged to his death when he was unable to open his parachute.[3][4]

In August 2016, a glass skywalk overlooking Tongtian Avenue, called the Coiling Dragon Cliff,[5] opened to the public.[6]

In February 2018, a hybrid Range Rover SUV driven by Ho-Pin Tung climbed the 45-degree angle staircase of 999 steps to Heaven's Gate using a combination of gasoline and electric battery power

Tianmen Mountain takes its name after the Tianmen Cave, a natural karst cave under the mountain. The mountain is relatively gentle, full of old trees, winding vines, mosses, stalagmites, sits upon 494 acres. The rare mountaintop scenery makes it the most beautiful sky garden world over, and a paradise. Owing to this, it became Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, a national forest park in 1992. The plank road and glass skywalks on the cliffs are worthwhile going. The mountain summit of a height of 4,982 feet (1,518 meters) is about 5 miles from the downtown Zhangjiajie.

Day 5 - Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain

On our 5th day we took the worlds longest cable car to the top of Tianmen Mountain (天門山), in Zhangjiajie. The Cableway is 7.5km long and ascends over 1200 meters.

At the top we crossed the two glass bottom platforms, visited Tianmenshan Buddhist temple, and then made our way back down to Tianmen Cave, otherwise known as Heavens Gate, with 999 steps up to the natural cave entrance.

We then made our way down from Tianmen Mountain via the 99 bends bus journey, before heading back to the airport for our night flight to Xi'an
