A few months back I flew to Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean - where, I hear you cry? You may have heard of Curacao and you're probably heard of Aruba, and Bonaire is the little brother of those islands deep in the Southern Caribbean close to Venezuela.
It's not as well known as its siblings as it doesn't have any golden beaches. So it lacks a lot of tourism, and so it lacks a lot of tourist infrastructure. But it is surrounded by amazing oceans and contains a lot of flamingos, salt and donkeys. A lot of donkeys...
So come with me as I share my experience of visiting Bonaire!

This is Bonaire (4k) - Pride of the Dutch Caribbean
Bonaire National Marine Park is an underwater sanctuary that surrounds the entire island of Bonaire. The park is the world's oldest marine reserve and was established with support from the World Wildlife Fund and managed by the STINAPA foundation. Bonaire marine park is one of the world's most beautiful diving destinations.
Join us on a journey through the beautiful coral reef of Bonaire, the pride of the Dutch Caribbean. We’ll take you along breathtaking reef structures, through endless coral fields, and past its surprising inhabitants. Bonaire is a Caribbean Sea island off the coast of Venezuela. The Caribbean Sea surrounding Bonaire homes approximately 350 species of fish, and the coral reef encompasses about 60 species of coral.
The island is surrounded by coral reefs and is easily accessible by car or boat for any diver. With pleasant water temperatures and varied depths from shallow to deep, the reefs are easy to dive independently without a guide. However, a guide is recommended on the east coast as currents can be rough.
Because of the presence of seagrass and mangroves, a shallow lagoon in the southeast of Bonaire is a one-of-a-kind area. With restricted access, a portion of the mangroves remains virtually undisturbed, making it a valuable resting area for birds and a nursery for many fish and other aquatic life. However, mangrove forests are under threat. The Mangrove Maniacs Foundation, a group of people united in their mission to preserve the mangroves for the future, looks after this particular area.
Today, salt is still extracted from the salt pans of the Pekelmeer. In the colorful basins of the southwest, seawater evaporates naturally, leaving behind salt for extraction.
Another colorful area is Bonaire's capital, Kralendijk, where buildings and murals are painted beautifully bright colors.
Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of endangered sea turtles in Bonaire. In addition to rescuing injured turtles, sea turtles are frequently captured for a short time to monitor their health, growth, and provide them with a tag or satellite transmitter. The data from the transmitters provide valuable insight into the turtles' foraging and breeding habits.
Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire is doing everything it can to restore the reef. Coral nurseries can be found all over the island, where coral fragments grow in coral trees before being planted on the reef.
The wildlife above water is rich in biodiversity with birds, lizards, iguanas. Washington Slagbaai National Park, which encompasses the entire northern region of Bonaire, is a protected nature reserve. The nature reserves are easily accessible by car and offer a memorable experience.

Bonaire - Beautiful island of the Netherlands located in the Caribbean Sea
Bonaire is a Caribbean island that occupies an area of approximately 111 sq mi and has an estimated population of 20,104. The island measures 24 mi long from north to south, and its width ranges between 3 mi and 5 mi. Politically, it was previously part of the Netherland Antilles, which was a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and later became a special municipality of the Netherlands following the dissolution of the Netherland Antilles in 2010.
Bonaire, together with Aruba and Curaçao, form the ABC islands, which are situated 50 mi from the Venezuelan coast. Additionally, Bonaire is one of three islands that make up the Caribbean Netherlands, which also includes Sint Eustatius and Saba.
The flat, tiny island of Bonaire is often overlooked by Caribbean vacationers, and that’s a shame. Like Aruba, it boasts an amazing climate, and it’s safely out of the hurricane band. The “rainy season” runs from October to January, but total precipitation is low. Dutch and English are widely spoken here, and the official currency is the U.S. dollar, which is a nice perk. Attractions include salt flats, ancient rock art, historic buildings and exquisite beaches. Be on the lookout for flamingoes and iguanas, which are found in abundance. For food, don’t miss the rock lobster or conch.

Windsurfing on bonaire is a DREAM Coming True!
Windsurfing at Bonair is something you NEED to do in 2020 if you like being on the water! We've been practicing our windsurfing skills for a whole week there and the conditions were perfect for beginners to advanced levels. The water is knee deep for a super long time which makes it easy to get up and off your surf board. The Sorobon hotel provides cute little villas on the beach so that you can walk to the beach in less than a minute! If you ever think about going windsurfing this is the spot! Bonaire is situated in the Dutch Caribbean (a little above and to the right of south america).
Next to Windsurfing you can also go to a very cool donkey sanctuary (end of video). The Lady there started this donkey sanctuary 25 years ago and build it out all by herself! Saving and helping hundreds of donkeys. you can drive through the sanctuary by car and even feed the donkeys carrots! Super fun.
There also are a lot of cool beach clubs and nice restaurants to go to at night.
So if you weren't sure yet to go for your next 2020 trip! Go to bonaire.

Exploring the BEAUTIFUL Port of Curacao!! ABC Islands Cruise
Did you know that the ABC islands are not geographically in alphabetical order?? First we visited Aruba and second up is Curacao. It is an overcast day, and we were at the beach yesterday, so we are feeling something different. This is a great port to walk and explore and that is exactly what we did! There is a great old fort that has a new life... as a shopping and eating area... very cool! And a pedestrian bridge that is floating on pontoons links the two sides of the city. Just walking along this bridge is neat, but also beautiful. Come along with us for a stroll and some exploration of this Dutch colonial island.

Saint Lucia is the ultimate honeymoon destination. It has the most beautiful nature and is the absolute highlight in the middle of the Caribbean. There is also plenty to do for backpackers and traveling families. In this video I show you why every traveler should visit Saint Lucia at least once: it's just a place that can hardly be beat!
After Saint Lucia we visit many more gems in the Caribbean. Whether they will match with Saint Lucia remains to be seen! With the best views of the gigantic pitons, overnight stays in tree houses in the middle of the jungle and the most beautiful snow-white beaches, Saint Lucia is high on the list of the most beautiful islands in the world. We sleep in Soufrière, visit the Diamond Waterfalls, hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail and visit the beaches Anse Chastanet, Sugar Beach and Jalousie Plantation Beach. From the west, we drive our small jeep through the rainforest to the south and east, before relaxing at an all-inclusive resort in the north.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde and Martinique, Saint Lucia is our fifth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in the Caribbean and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. Diving No Name Beach, Klein Bonaire - Caribbean Netherlands
The gorgeous white sand beach on uninhabited Klein Bonaire is not a typical dive site. Although No Name Beach is often used for dive courses it doesn’t offer much for experienced divers.
It's the only dive site on Klein Bonaire where you can dive from the shore.The current is limited and the sand plateau lies in shallow waters. But there is plenty of marine life to see.
Being one of the most beautiful white sand beaches of the Caribbean it has quite an amount on daily visitors coming over by the frequent driving water taxis.
