Things To Do & Best Beaches In PIRAN, Slovenia. You should visit Piran, a picturesque seaside town in Slovenia. Piran is a popular day trip form Ljubljana and one of Top Tourist attractions of Slovenia. Piran sits on a small peninsula surrounded by the Adriatic Sea and is famous for its medieval architecture and a maze of charming windy stone streets. Piran also has some of the best beaches in Slovenia. Piran is also a birthplace of famous composer and violinist Tartini. For more than half a millennia Piran belonged to the Republic of Venice and was also a flourishing spa town in Austro-Hungarian Empire. Between the world wars it belonged to Italy and after the WWII it became part of Yugoslavia, succeeded by Slovenia. Pirano is the Italian name of this bilingual town where signs are written in both Slovenian and Italian. Piran Slovenia | Things To Do in Piran Slovenia
Piran is the most beautiful medieval town on the Slovenian coast. It is located on a headland in the southwest corner of Slovenia.
Piran was first settled during the days of the Roman empire. The town was part of the Republic of Venice from the 13th to the end of the 18th century when it was annexed to the Austrian Empire. After the First World War, the town was ceded to Italy. Piran was annexed to Yugoslavia in 1954, and became a part of independent Slovenia in 1991.
The old port town with remnants of a medieval wall is protected as a cultural and historical monument. It consists of a main square, a harbour filled with fishing boats, a jetty and a promenade lined with restaurants. Piran is surrounded by beautiful nature. Long, wide paths trace the coast from north to south and are ideal for walking or cycling.

???????? Koper, Piran & Portorož - Slovenia | Europe's Hidden Gem
Continuing our journey after a lovely 3-day stay in Ljubljana, we rented a car and drove to the small Slovenian coastline, which is only about 46km long, to visit the beautiful towns of Koper, Piran and Portorož and try to show you the things to see and do there,
It was not very difficult for us to pick a favourite. Piran is a cute little town with great architecture, great restaurants, a beautiful church (St. George's) on top of the hill, where you have awesome views of the city.
Porotorož is great for swimming but it is much bigger and more fancy, not really our vibe. The resorts can get quite expensive but if money is not an issue, you should definitely check it out.
Koper felt more like a regular city, and because of the port, it is not the best for swimming.
Overall we were super satisfied and brought many fond memories home, especially from the cozy Piran :)

Portorož, Slovenia - Beach resort and spa town on the Adriatic Sea
Portorož or Portorose is the most popular Slovenian resort town situated along the Adriatic coast. It is famous for its spa tradition: it is a place where, from the 13th century, the Benedictine monks treated their patients with sea salt and mud therapies. The official status of Portorož resort was obtained only in 1885 after the opening of the first hospital, and in 1910 the first large hotel - Palace - was opened. Today, apart from the rich spa culture, the destination is also known for its mild Mediterranean climate, the beautiful surrounding hills and shallow warm sea. Portoroz is buzzing with life, especially during warmer months, with its main promenade adorned by numerous hotels, casinos and restaurants. Though it has something for all budgets the town has an air of exclusivity which draws well-heeled holidaymakers from all over Europe. Besides thermal complexes, the resort is also famous for its rich cultural life and variety of interesting sites, including its main historical symbol - Hotel Kempinski Palace Portoroz. There was a time when only the wealthiest guests of the resort could stay at this fashionable hotel. Portorož is also known for its first-class casinos, many of which have also acquired the status of historical sites.
The most popular casinos and other entertainment facilities can be found on the waterfront.There is a hilltop Church of St. Bernardin, a former monastery from the 15th century and to the south there’s Forma Viva, an area dotted with unique stone sculptures. Portorož is a great destination for people seeking an active holiday. There are numerous opportunities for water sports, cycling and horse riding. It is a perfect starting point for excursions and daily tours. It is only a stone’s throw away from the medieval pearl, the town of Piran, and the beautiful cultural and historical monument that is the Lipica Stud Farm. Galleries, numerous cultural and entertainment events; specialities of Istrian cuisine; superb wellness services and facilities; – guests can enjoy all of these during their stay in the popular holiday resort of Portorož.

In this video, I visit the locations Of Piran and Portorose telling you all of the things that you should do, and giving you as much info as possible so that you can choose which one is best for you to stay - Piran or Portorose?
We stayed in Portorose at Kempinski Palace. It was was one of my favorite stays EVER! Their breakfast buffet was the best breakfast buffet that I've ever had.
The food in general is inexpensive, and amazing! Definitely try the seafood, pastas, pizzas, and wine. They are also known for their olive oil, truffles and wine.

Join us as we set off from Ljubljana to discover the beautiful seaside town of Piran. ???? Slovenia’s coast is only 30 miles long but it’s home to a few hidden gems! From delicious fresh seafood ???? to endless sea views, we’re exploring every nook and cranny of Piran. ????????
We start the day with a 1 1/2 hour drive from Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana. ???? When we arrive in Piran we realize that we’re starving and ready for lunch so we go in search of fresh seafood. ???? We dine on a feast of fried fish, calamari, and shrimp before walking around the tiny peninsula of Piran.

Why Should You Visit Piran ?
Charming. Lovely. Appealing. Enchanting. These are just a few adjectives that could be used to describe the peninsula town of Piran. It’s one of the best coastal cities in Slovenia. Situated between Italy and Croatia on the Slovenia Adriatic Coast, the town of Piran is surrounded on three sides by the tranquil turquoise sea.
For travelers visiting Slovenia, Piran is a top destination that shouldn’t be missed! We are sharing our list of the best things to see in Piran.
Things To Do In Piran,Slovenia
Visit Tartini Square
Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg / Piazza Tartini) is the elegant Italian-style plaza at the heart of Piran. Oblong in shape, it faces onto Piran’s petite inner dock on one side, and on the other is fringed by a row of neoclassical facades painted in a subdued rainbow of pastel hues.
Tartini Square was completed 1894 and is the most visually beautiful part of Piran – both when viewed from ground level and from above (more on that in a moment).
When wandering the square on foot, pay special attention to the blue-and-white Municipal Hall and the Gothic-style Benečanka (Venetian House), the only building on the square that retains its original 15th century facade. See if you can spot the Lion of Saint Mark – the Venetian Republic’s unmistakable insignia – inscribed in stone.
The prominent yellow building, Tartini House, is now a small museum dedicated to the square’s namesake, violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini. His statue stands in the plaza and inside the museum, you can view his violin. The canary yellow Teatre Piran on the edge of the harbour is another particularly pretty facade.
CLIMB THE BELL TOWER FOR EPIC VIEW
The most iconic views of Piran can be found from the top of the 45-metre-tall Zvonik Campanile Bell Tower, which was built in 1608 adjoining St. George’s. If the design looks familiar, there’s a reason for that: It’s actually a replica of the famous St. Mark’s Campanile in Venice.
Unlike the tower over St. Mark’s Square, Piran’s sadly lacks an elevator – the only way to get to the top is by navigating a spiral wooden staircase of 146 steps!
Don’t worry though, it’s more than worth the climb. Once you catch your breath, you’ll be rewarded with a bird’s eye view over Tartini Square and the inner marina.
A narrow open-air balcony wraps around the entire tower so you can photograph Piran from all angles. The view eastwards towards the cliffs and Strunjan National Park is also very pretty.
Four hefty bells set inside the tower ring out at 15-minute intervals. If you happen to be on the stairs when they start chiming, shield your ears – the noise is deafening!
Visit the Church of St. George
Seeing St. George’s Church is a must when visiting Piran! It’s impossible to miss the hilltop church, but we strongly recommend walking up to the church to get a better view.
Standing in front of St. George’s Church, the Renaissance façade looms high overhead. The imposing effect was intentionally designed as a deterrence to possible invaders arriving by sea.
Watch Piran Sunsets
Watching the sun set is one of the top Piran, Slovenia things to do – and the Medieval walls of Piran are the place to do it!
Through the arches of the remaining hillside town walls of Piran, visitors have picture-perfect view of the setting sun over the sea. St. George’s Church and the Piran Bell Tower capture the last light of the day. The defensive walls of Piran that were built on Mogoron Hill between 1470 and 1534. The fortifications include eight towers and mark the eastern edge of town. We think the elevated platform is the best place to watch the sunset in Piran.
Meander the colorful streets of the old town
The old town center of Piran is full of charming little cobblestone streets. Take some time to stroll around and explore the narrow alleyways.
No destination is the best destination in Piran and the narrower the alley, the better. If done right you’ll find some pretty sketchy, narrow and steep stairways and beautiful colorful streets with overhead passages from one house to the other.

Piran Beaches in Summer, Slovenia - 4K Virtual Walk
Piran is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the three major towns of Slovenian Istria. The town is known for its medieval architecture, with narrow streets and compact houses. Piran is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia and has many great local beaches where you can have a swim, relax on the sun, and sip a cocktail or other refreshing drink.
Piran's most popular and most visited public beach is located next to the Giuseppe Tartini Theater and Hotel Piran. The beach is concrete with access to the ocean and jetty. There are great restaurants nearby for lunch.
Another very popular well-kept beach, Punta, is made of concrete and rocks. Free showers on the beach, a pier and a variety of bars and restaurants are just around the corner.
At low tide, you can as well walk towards Fiesa from Punta Beach to the natural beach below St. George's Church in Piran. The beach has pebbles and rocks. One side is the sea, the other is a huge cliff that provides occasional shade.

Travel Guide to Piran, Slovenia
Piran is an ancient port city, which is considered Slovenia's Gem on the Adriatic.
It's the biggest city on Slovenia's 30 miles of coastline, sandwiched between Italy and Croatia.
Piran is a 90 minute drive from Slovenia's capital city of Ljubljana.
It's a pedestrian-only city, so you'll have to park in a large garage outside the city, and take a shuttle in.

While Piran is full of land-locked Europeans vacationing, you'll find very few Americans.
On clear days, you can look from the walls above the city of Piran, and see Italy to the north and Croatia to the south.
Hotel Zala is one of just a few hotel options in Piran, and we enjoyed our stay (especially the delicious breakfast they cook each morning!)
If you have a rental car, it'll make it easy to visit the nearby Istrian cities of Pula, Premantura, Porec, and Rovinj.
