ONE YEAR | Renovating Two Stone Cabins in the Italian Alps

I'm one year in building a homestead in these two stone barns at this plot of land in the mountains in Piedmont, Italy. The first months I focused on the electricity, water connection and creating comfortable space to live on the land, whilst I was waiting for the building permit.

Losing All Of Your Fingernails ????

The mysteries of Italy's notorious abandoned orphan asylum

Located on top of a hill somewhere in Italy, there is a former monastery that has just been sitting empty for almost 30 years now. It is a puzzling place with an obscure history. While it was used as orphan asylum and seminary before it shut down, today it is haunted by nocturnal ghostbusters and sometimes also Satanists holding black masses inside. In this episode, we explore the building complex to find out why it is such an enigmatic place - and we quickly realize that it is indeed full of surprises. #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex

YEAR TWO | Renovating Two Stone Cabins in the Italian Alps

Compilation of the second year living off the grid in Italy. I was halfway the roof renovation of the first cabin and got it weather tight just before heavy snowfall. During the darkest days of winter I carved out wooden rain gutters. Then moved on downstairs with the big work: digging out the floor, building foundation walls, digging trenches for drainage, sewage and plumbing. In summer I poured a floor, completely rebuild the small side room, replaced a lintel, fixed the holes and cracks and pointed the inside walls.

Rugged granite cliffs and panoramic views of the Potomac River set the stage for this exceptional estate which has been described as one of the most beautiful homes on the East Coast. A private lane introduces the gated entrance which reveals the understated, French Provincial architecture of the residence. Timeless materials including a Vermont Slate roof, copper gutters, and limestone and concrete stucco walls blend seamlessly into the breathtaking natural setting. Custom iron doors introduce guests to a circular rotunda with views to the river and beyond. Galleries extend both direction to the public rooms including the main salon, dining room and soaring great room with sweeping views of the river and beyond. Adjoining the great room, a world class kitchen by Lobkovitch with input from renowned chef, Jose Andres, captures every luxurious amenity, including a circular breakfast room with 180 degree views of the gardens, outdoor pool and the river. A separate catering kitchen provides a full suite of appliances to satisfy the most discerning host. Nearby, an office with unobstructed river views, a managers office, a full laundry room and coat room lead to the daily garage with parking for 4-6 cars. On the opposite end of this level, a spacious salon once again captures uncompromising views of the river to the west and leads to a collectors garage with room for 18-22 cars. This finely finished space also doubles as an exceptional ballroom space for large indoor gatherings.

Designed for outdoor entertaining, the central lawn area was designed to accommodate a large tent for 200+ guests. Beyond, an infinity edge pool captures sunset views, and multiple terraces provide ideal vantage points for the truly spectacular views in all directions of the river, abundant wildlife, and the city of Washington beyond. Additional accommodations for guests or staff are provided in two separate quarters: a two-bedroom unit with a kitchen and separate entrance on the lower level, and an additional guest or staff quarters with a separate entrance located above the daily garage. The estates ideal location just 1.5 miles from the Capital Beltway and 10 minutes to Tysons Corner also provides easy access to both Ronald Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. Downtown Washington is less than 20 minutes.

How One Of Italy's Rarest, Most Expensive Cheeses Is Made | Regional Eats

Caciocavallo cheese is one of the most popular cheeses in Italy and is famous for its signature elongated shape. In the caciocavallo family, there is one kind that is so rare that at times it can be even more expensive than the finest of Parmesans: caciocavallo Podolico. This special type of caciocavallo is made with the raw milk of Podolica cattle, a rare breed of cattle confined to a few areas where water is scarce and survival is difficult. One of these is the Gargano, a peninsula whose close proximity to the sea gives Podolica cows’ milk a rich, earthy flavor. This milk,in combination with how the cheese is aged, lends a salty, sharp, almost spicy flavor to the finished product. Virginio Frumenzio, a full-time livestock breeder and part-time cheesemaker, shares the story of this incredible cheese with us.

7 Islands No One Wants to Buy Even for $1

Do you ever you dream to own a private island? If you do, you'll probably find this information useful. Have you ever heard that there are whole islands out there that you can purchase for a fraction of the typical price? But the real kicker is that nobody wants to buy them! And there're reasons for that.

Have you ever heard, for example, about Japan's Rabbit Island? They began to thrive and multiply on the island after a chemical weapons plant was closed. And these days, thousands of friendly bunnies will greet you if you decide to pay them a visit!

SUMMARY:
- For just 80,000 bucks, you can become the owner of not one but six islands situated on Brazil’s Sao Francisco River. But you’ll be subject to small annual taxes.
- Although Little Rocky Island lies in the Atlantic Ocean, neighboring islands protect it from foul weather. There’s no property on the island, but you can build anything you like there!
- Also known as Terrible Tilly, this island’s nickname speaks for itself. Well, it’s not technically an island in the traditional sense, it’s basically a rock with a single lighthouse on it off the coast of Oregon.
- If you have an extra 40K, you can buy a 1-acre island with a view of picturesque Maine. There’s a little cabin on the island, and you can theoretically build some other property there too if you want.
- You could become the owner of a historic private island on one condition: you have to restore the fort situated on it.
- People typically associate private islands with some sort of tropical paradise. But Canada’s McGibbon Island is nothing like that. Perhaps that explains the super low price tag of 30 grand.
- Welcome to a tiny island off the coast of Tasmania, Australia. This offer is open only for couples, and both partners should be equally eager to go to the island.
- Ōkunoshima Island lies approximately 2 miles off the coast of Japan. From 1929 to 1945, there was a chemical weapons plant on the island that produced poisonous gas.
- Dubbed Battleship Island because it looks like an old half-destroyed battleship, Hashima is located about 9 miles away from Nagasaki. From 1887 to 1974, there was a profitable coal mine on the island.
- Located in Venice, Italy, Lazzaretto Nuovo is also open for tourists but home to nobody. In 1468, the island became a quarantine area for ships that approached the city. This move was meant to protect Venice from the plague.
- Jaco Island belongs to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. This island looks like the picture of true paradise: lush green trees, crystal blue waters, and white sand. But his place is uninhabitable.
