The COVID-19 Vaccine: A Talk with the Experts

The pandemic has mobilized global science to rapidly find ways to protect against or control the coronavirus infection. The huge public health challenge has led to the interdisciplinary application of new technologies in the development of vaccines and antiviral agents.
New technologies include: genetic engineering in the development of new vaccines based on the DNA and RNA of viral proteins, and the in silico modeling of the crystal structures of key coronavirus enzymes (protease and polymerase) that control its proliferation in the host. This impacts the design and development of innovative vaccines and antiviral synthetic drugs.
The combination of biosciences with dynamic molecular modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning will accelerate this process. The development of algorithms for the analysis of clinical and genetic data of hundreds of thousands of patients and carriers of the infection quickly provided significant knowledge about the behavior of the virus and subsequent treatment protocols. These technologies will help the constant genomic-molecular monitoring of the mutations of coronavirus, unraveling its preserved-non mutating viral regions for effectively updating vaccines and the antiviral monoclonal antibodies.
The Northeastern Greece Community invites you to a discussion on the COVID-19 vaccine and Northeastern's preventative initiatives, a timely event that will help broaden your knowledge during these challenging times.
Hear from David Luzzi, PhD, Vice President and Senior Vice Provost at Northeastern University and Achilleas Gravanis, Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Crete. The talk will be moderated by Peter Contis, MBA’83, MS’86, President of the Northeastern Greece Community.

0:00 - Which Covid Vaccine to Choose?: Your Choice Of COVID 19 Vaccine Will Determine Where You Can Travel

01:57 - Choice of COVID-19 vaccine will determine where you can travel

As the world re-opens its borders to international travel after the coronavirus pandemic, it is becoming clear that your choice of the vaccine may determine where you’re allowed to travel.

The EU is planning to allow Americans and other vaccinated travellers to travel into the European and Schengen Countries, from this summer, if they have been vaccinated by a vaccine that is approved by the European Medicines Agency.

The current list of vaccines approved the European drug agency are:
* Comirnaty
* COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna
* Vaxzevria (previously COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca)
* COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen

It means that if you have taken the vaccine by Chinese makers like Sinovac Biotech Ltd. and Sinopharm Group Co. Ltd. or the Russian Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) are likely to be barred from entry for the foreseeable future. Which of course may be a setback for international travel.

On the other hand, China also only currently recognises Chinese-made vaccines, and its vaccines not approved in the US or in Western Europe.

Russia, on the other hand has approved three vaccine shots; CoviVac and produced by the Chumakov Centre, the Sputnik V shot, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute and finally, EpiVacCorona developed by the Vector Institute in Novosibirsk.

04:46 - Mutual Recognition of Covid Vaccines

While vaccines are seen as the way to remove those entry barriers, considerable uncertainty remains over how, or if, nations will differentiate the at least 11 shots available worldwide.

The question of vaccine recognition is going to come to a head for tourism-dependent countries, with the $9 trillion global travel industry effectively paralyzed since the pandemic began. Expect things to change.

06:30 - The UK’s Vaccine App

Evidence of vaccines vital for some airlines, holidays and cruises, while reducing the number and cost of tests in destinations like France, Greece and Cyprus

Vaccinations will not be necessary at most destinations, but mandatory for many cruises, some tours and a handful of flights this summer

Greece, Spain and Portugal have said UK travellers won’t need to be vaccinated for travel this summer.

07:43 - Europe's Vaccine Passports

Other countries across the EU have already developed vaccine passports.

COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence | World Extreme Medicine Podcast

With the emergence of highly infectious strains of COVID-19 in the UK and South Africa, the race is on to get vaccines out to the general public across the globe, but how do we improve confidence in the general public? In the UK we’ve already started rolling out doses of the Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccine and it really feels like there’s light at the end of this tunnel.

However, one big question remains – how many of our patients are actually going to accept the vaccine? How, as clinicians do we approach and make sense of the issue of vaccine hesitancy in the post-truth era of disinformation, conspiracy theories and distrust of medical science?

Dr Will Duffin, a jobbing frontline GP is joined by Dr Pauline Paterson and Professor Beata Kampmann, who are senior researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Directors of the vaccine confidence project.

In this video, Dr Paterson and Professor Kampmann share their expertise and the latest research on this pivotal issue that could define whether humankind will overcome this terrible pandemic.

Getting the Covid-19 Vaccine | January 2021

In a very exciting and last-minute possibility, the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination presented itself, so I absolutely jumped at the chance! It was a rather interesting event, consisting of a drive-thru vaccination event! I’ve definitely never seen one of those, but it seems like a reasonable manner to vaccinate a large number of people while still maintaining social distancing. I wanted to document the process, as well as a couple check-ins afterward to share my feelings and how I was doing - join me on this experience!

Will You Need The Covid 19 Vaccine To Travel?

WILL YOU NEED THE COVID 19 VACCINE TO TRAVEL - If the vaccine was available today for you to take, would you get it? If I changed the question to, If the vaccine was mandatory for travel, would you take it?
The dilemma that many of us are battling with are to the many unanswered questions that we have surrounding this vaccine.
Most or should I say ALL vaccines usually have to go through some rigorous clinical trials, research, quantitative data and safety precautions, before it is released into the community for human administration. And yet, the COVID 19 vaccine has defied all these parameters and is being released inside of one year vs the usual 5 - 8 years it takes for most other vaccines.
1) How long will this vaccine give us immunity against COVID 19
2) How many doses do we need to take?
3) What are the side effects of this vaccine? Short-term and Long-term?
4) Will this vaccine give me full protection? How effective is it?
5) Will this be an annual vaccine required, along with the routine Flu vaccine?
6) Will I need this vaccine in order to travel?
7) Will I need to show proof that I have taken the vaccine either through a Immunization Passport or Certificate?

So many questions... And answers that we will only be able to have into the distant future. Mainly, because we haven't really study this virus that long.

The coronavirus / Covid-19 vaccination process includes a detailed explanation. Tel Aviv Israel

An important and personal request from me (followed by information about the vaccination ): unfortunately as a tour guide I have not worked since February 2020. Please subscribe to my site and let me show you the Holy Land through it
On my YouTube site, you can watch more than 18,000 videos about Israel and the Holy Land
I would be happy if you could share the site with your other friends who are interested in the rich and sacred history of the place

Who will get the vaccine first and who will not get the vaccine at this stage?
Who will get the vaccine first?
At this stage, the vaccine will only be given to people who are 16 years of age or older, according to guidance related to age. We are currently vaccinating 40 year olds or older, and individuals who are 16-18 years of age.
Pregnant women or women who plan to be pregnant can get the vaccine. See the position paper concerning vaccination of pregnant women (HE).
People with an acute illness, especially if their body temperature is 38 degrees Celsius or higher, should recover before getting the vaccine.

Who will not get the vaccine at this stage?
People who are younger than 16 years of age.
People with a history of severe allergic reactions. They are required to tell staff before they are vaccinated and ask if they can have the vaccine.
Certified recovered COVID-19 patients.
Vaccine administration and what to do after vaccination

Vaccine administration
The mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series consists of two doses administered 21 days apart. A second dose can be administered even if more than 21 days elapse. The body will have maximum immunity possible after the second dose only.

The vaccine is administered by injection in the deltoid muscle.

Common side effects
There are mild side effects which resolve within a few days. The most common side effects after vaccination include redness and pain at the injection site, fever, chills, fatigue, headaches, malaise, muscle pain, joint pain, nausea, and swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy).

These side effects usually resolve within a day or two after injection and are more common after the second dose is administered.

Allergic side effects, including an immediate allergic reaction (anaphylactic reaction), are rare. Patients with a history of anaphylactic reactions must consult staff before getting vaccinated.

After receiving the vaccine, please wait for 15 minutes before leaving the vaccination hub.

Reporting form: adverse events (potential side effects) that appeared during or after vaccination.

On 21.1.2021, the Israel Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology published a position paper, according to which, there were only few cases of severe allergical reactions and not a single death has been reported.

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522
My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered licensed tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.

In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)

Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water, and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many-faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be implanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
