Hidden New York: A secret bomb shelter

A bomb shelter was discovered accidentally by city workers doing a routine check on the Brooklyn Bridge.

No one is sure when it was built or who it was for.

Inside the shelter, workers found blankets, water and food rations like crackers.

It is assumed it was built during the cold war era of the 1950s and supplies inside carrying dates from that time and the 1960s.

Abandoned Underground Fallout Shelter Civil Defence Mine

Well stocked with 1960s supplies this was a rare find and was cleaned out by scrappers a few years after I captured this. Video was captured using a Flip Cam and 50 watt halogen lamp, the video is pretty bad compared to today.

Abandoned Underground Fallout Shelter - Exploring The Girard Mine

We're back once again in Tombstone, AZ in the famous Girard Mine. In this installment, we explore a maze of drifts, stopes, and sub-levels hidden beneath the streets of the town. One of the more significant features of the Girard Mine is a partially intact fallout shelter supply cache from the Cold War era. Boxes and boxes of 'survival biscuits' fill a dead-end tunnel several hundred feet below the surface. I guess we wouldn't go hungry if we were trapped underground...

The mines below Tombstone are well-preserved, so the fallout shelter was not the only interesting feature in this exploration. I hope you enjoy!

Atomic Pilgrimage: Ghost Towns, Nuclear Relics, and Lost Civilizations on the Road to Trinity Site

This is a video travelogue about a 40-day, 40-night road trip to the Trinity Site, where the first atomic bomb in history was detonated in the summer of 1945. It goes much farther than that, covering many other atomic destinations and driving deep into the natural and social history of the American southwest. If you'd like to see a simulated nuclear missile launch, a forest of stone pillars, Oregon's only geyser, and a 60-foot tall neon cowboy all in the same video, this would likely be your jam. The trip was done over 6500 miles in a 1973 Volkswagen bus in the spring of 2019.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE OIL INDUSTRY (1950s Government Film)

Recommended Pipeline History Resources
• American Experience: The Alaska Pipeline (PBS)
• The Alaska Pipeline (Building America)
• Exxon Valdez: How a Massive Oil Spill Triggered an Environmental Catastrophe
This video has to do with the history of oil industry history.
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) includes the trans-Alaska crude-oil pipeline, 11 pump stations, several hundred miles of feeder pipelines, and the Valdez Marine Terminal. TAPS is one of the world's largest pipeline systems. It is commonly called the Alaska pipeline, trans-Alaska pipeline, or Alyeska pipeline, (or the pipeline as referred to in Alaska), but those terms technically apply only to the 800 miles (1,287 km) of the pipeline with the diameter of 48 inches (122 cm) that conveys oil from Prudhoe Bay, to Valdez, Alaska. The crude oil pipeline is privately owned by the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.
The pipeline was built between 1974 and 1977 after the 1973 oil crisis caused a sharp rise in oil prices in the United States. This rise made exploration of the Prudhoe Bay oil field economically feasible. Environmental, legal, and political debates followed the discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay in 1968, and the pipeline was built only after the oil crisis provoked the passage of legislation designed to remove legal challenges to the project.
In building the pipeline, engineers faced a wide range of difficulties, stemming mainly from the extreme cold and the difficult, isolated terrain. The construction of the pipeline was one of the first large-scale projects to deal with problems caused by permafrost, and special construction techniques had to be developed to cope with the frozen ground. The project attracted tens of thousands of workers to Alaska, causing a boomtown atmosphere in Valdez, Fairbanks, and Anchorage.
The first barrel of oil traveled through the pipeline in 1977, and full-scale production began by the end of the year. Several notable incidents of oil leakage have occurred since, including those caused by sabotage, maintenance failures, and bullet holes. As of 2010, the pipeline had shipped almost 16 billion barrels (2.5×109 m3) of oil.

SEPTA Nuclear Bomb Shelter, Broad St. Subway Concourse

Philadelphia subway tunnel bomb shelter located on a forgotten branch of the Broad St. subway concourse. From a WHYY special.

London Road Deep Shelter - Part 2

This week folks we explore a ww2 bunker a 2 part series on a very special location. This is a time capsule, a place that should be respected.

This was used in the Second World War as an air raid shelter for the public in the city of ——.

Well remember folks keeping locations off the map can help them stay like golden gems.

Also vandals and thieves are a big problem with historic locations like these.

Ww2 bunkers and tunnels can be dangerous folks

EXPLORING A REAL LIFE FALLOUT BUNKER IN ALBANIA ????????

Today I'm in Vlorë, Albania and myself and some people from my hostel, decided to jump in the car and head down the coast to explore the monastery of St Mary which sits on its own little island in the centre of a natural lagoon. We headed down the coast further and ended up discovering a nuclear bunker built in the 1980's which could have been straight out of Fallout New Vegas!

Is Tel Aviv’s Crazy Mess of a Bus Station an Architectural Failure? (Ft. @ARTiculations) | Unpacked

New channel alert

- How did Tel Aviv end up with the largest bus station in the world? Proposed as a solution to Tel Aviv’s old central bus station, its shell sat abandoned for almost 20 years and became the city’s “white elephant”. Eventually construction of this eight-floor maze was finished and it opened to the public in 1993 with hopes of the massive labyrinth becoming an urban center containing everything from an Asian food market to a nuclear fallout shelter. Unfortunately, these dreams never became reality.

This video is a collaboration with Betty, from the YouTube channel @ARTiculations; you can check out her video here:

Special thanks to Tiv Nguyen for her behind the scenes tour of the station.
