The World's LONGEST Flight - QANTAS London to Sydney

An in-depth trip report on-board Qantas Project Sunrise London to Sydney non-stop research flight QF7879. Check out all the unusual flight details, research, well brings and the secret of double sunrise on the World’s Longest non-stop flight.

The flight is not a typical passenger flight; it is a delivery flight and a research flight. The brand new Boeing 787-9, VH-ZNJ painted in Qantas special Centenary livery operated this history making flight in just 19 hours and 19 minutes from London to Sydney non-stop covering over 17,000km! (10,500 miles)

Qantas has named its endeavor “Project Sunrise” after the airline’s historic ‘Double Sunrise’ endurance flights during the Second World War, which remained airborne long enough to see two sunrises. This flight is a prove of overcoming the final frontier of aviation, linking non-stop flights from East Coast of Australia to London and New York.

We Went on One of the LONGEST FLIGHTS in the WORLD (while pregnant!) | Qantas Perth to London

Interested in picking up some battery packs for your upcoming trip? Head to Mophie at for all the products mentioned in the video.

Thanks to Mophie for partnering with us on this episode.

We needed to get from Australia all the way to Europe for our Christmas holiday...so we caught one of the longest flights in the world - 17.5 hours direct from Perth to London whilst Jess is pregnant.

The Qantas 787-9 Dreamliner is one of the only direct flights that you can take from Australia to Europe. It's amazing that less than 70 years ago it would take 4 days and have 7 stopovers...now we can just do it direct.

Our history making inaugural flight from London to Perth begins Hatton Cross near Heathrow Airport, as we take a tube from the famous Myrtle Avenue to Terminal 3. We enter the terminal where the festivities are underway, with lots of media and TV crews. We head to the gate where there are further celebrations. As boarding commences, I am pulled aside and asked if I would like to have a ramp tour to see the outside of the beautiful aircraft decorated by Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye Yam Dreaming. Once we've had a chance to see this aircraft up close from outside we are whisked back inside as the last passengers to board this flight!

The captain welcomes us aboard and we are soon pushed back for a very short taxi to runway 09R at Heathrow. We jump the queue and line up straight away, before making a long takeoff on Heathrow's longest flight! Once airborne we proceed over Europe, towards Romania, the Black Sea and Turkey. The sun sets overhead Turkey and we continue over Iran, flying overhead Shiraz and getting a distant view of the lights of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We then cross the coast to the Indian Ocean, crossing the Maldives and passing the south coast of India and Sri Lanka heading towards Australia. The sun rises over the Indian Ocean, and the tinted window shades are cleared to give us a great view of the cloudscapes over the Southern Ocean. After 15 hours we commence our descent towards Perth. We break through the clouds for an approach over Perth's southern suburbs, touching down ahead of schedule on runway 03.

We get a water cannon salute as we taxi to the terminal, before parking and making our way into a crowd of news reporters and media as we enter the arrivals hall. We hang around to watch the press interview the captain before making our way out to a rainy day in Western Australia.

Flying Economy class with Qantas on the QF9 Perth to London

Recently we took flew Qanrtas' QF9 service from Perth to London in Economy. We boarded the flight with questions like, would we survive? Did Phil have an empty seat next to him, or would it be a cosy trip with a new friend? Would we sleep or get bored being on a plane for over 17 hours?
Thankfully our experience was all positive. We were very grateful for the empty seat allowing us more room and the ability to move and get comfortable.
The crew were all lovely, and we did not have any problems with them. Meal service was pleasant, and the food economy edible. We got more sleep than we expected, but I guess flying the whole time in darkness probably helps with that.
We started our flight in the Qantas Business Lounge. This was thanks to Phil's Status in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. We then boarded the Qantas Boeing 787-9 Economy Class
We Went on One of the longest flights in the world, and yes, we survived.

Qantas Project Sunrise A350 cabin reveal

Introducing a new dawn of travel. Our fleet of Airbus A350s have been specially designed to overcome the tyranny of distance, with the ability to travel between Australia and almost any city in the world, starting with Sydney to New York and London. Take a look inside our cabins and Wellbeing Zone, each carefully considered for luxury, comfort and wellbeing on ultra long-haul flights.

London to Perth - Qantas' longest flight in business class

It’s the first scheduled direct non-stop service between the UK and Australia and when it launched Qantas hyped it up like nothing else. So now that it’s had a chance to settle what is this ultra-long-haul flight really like? And how does flying non-stop compare to the traditional one-stop services via the Gulf and Asian hubs? Join me to find out.

At just over 9,000 miles the London to Perth route is the 3rd longest flight in the world. What makes this one unique is that it links two previously unlinked continents – Europe and Australia. (I assume in a post-Brexit world the UK has not declared itself a separate continent yet!)

I fly from London to Perth in the comfort of Qantas business class on the 787. This business class flight review on the Qantas 787 covers the entire Qantas business class experience from the Qantas lounge at London Heathrow right through to the inflight service and landing at Perth Airport.

What a 19-Hour Nonstop Flight Can Teach Us About Jet Lag | WSJ

Qantas just completed a record-breaking 19-hour, 16-minute nonstop flight from New York to Sydney. It’s one of three research flights to determine if the routes can be made commercial and--researchers hope--teach us how to avoid the dreaded jet lag.

Flying on the World's LONGEST Flight TWICE IN A ROW - 37 Hours in the air

37 hours in the air, 5 hours in New York.. I tried out the world’s longest non-stop flight twice in a row. I flew from Singapore to New York JFK aboard Singapore Airlines A350-900 ULR in Premium Economy Class. After 5 hours at JFK airport, at same gate, I got back on the same plane to go back to Singapore.

When I flew from Singapore to New York, I traveled over the Pacific Ocean route, but I traveled over the Atlantic Ocean route instead of the Pacific Ocean route from New York to Singapore due to tailwind.

Yes, I did a round the world trip. It took almost 42 hours!

Download Opera for free:

Today I’m flying for 24 hours in Qantas First Class Suites from Sydney, Australia all the way to London, England. Classed as the worlds longest direct flight, flying over three continents! This is among one of the most iconic flights you can take, and one that’s taken many years to get to its current timing. Back 80 years ago when QF1 began, this would have taken nearly 100 hours with 6 stops. As always I’ll show you exactly what it’s like from the bed, to the food service and even the luxurious onboard lounge. We’ll also explore the First Class lounges in Sydney and during the tech stop in Singapore.

Secret Life of the Long Haul Flight: A Qantas Experience | Aviation Station

This 2017 documentary tells the story of a long-haul flight. Step inside the Qantas A380 as they make the 11,000 Mile journey from London, England to Sydney, Australia. Hear the stories of the passengers that are making the long-haul flight and see the behind-the-scenes that make their journey run as smoothly as possible.

Qantas Airways is the flag carrier of Australia and its largest airline by fleet size, international flights and international destinations. It is the world's third-oldest airline still in operation, having been founded in November 1920; it began international passenger flights in May 1935. Qantas is an acronym of the airline's original name, Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, as it originally served Queensland and the Northern Territory, and is popularly nicknamed The Flying Kangaroo. Qantas is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance.

The airline is based in the Sydney suburb of Mascot, adjacent to its main hub at Sydney Airport. As of March 2014, Qantas had a 65 percent share of the Australian domestic market and carried 14.9 percent of all passengers traveling in and out of Australia. Various subsidiary airlines operate to regional centers and on some trunk routes within Australia under the QantasLink banner. Qantas also owns Jetstar, a low-cost airline that operates both international services from Australia and domestic services within Australia and New Zealand; and holds stakes in several other Jetstar-branded airlines.

World’s Longest A380 Flight in First Class - Is It Worth It?

Last week, I flew on an Emirates A380 from Los Angeles to Dubai. Emirates has re-introduced the A380 back to LA. This is currently the longest A380 flight in the world. I was able to experience 16 hours of luxury in Emirates First Class. But is this First Class experience worth the extra price?

LAX Bradley Terminal was very busy at check-in. I visited the Duty-Free shop and the Emirates Lounge, which have both now re-opened. I also had a quick tour at the new LAX West Bradley terminal before my flight boarding. There is a tunnel that links it to the original Bradley Terminal. A lot of domestic flights are also using the new Bradley extension. There are good windows for plane spotting opportunities at the new extension.

The Emirates A380 took off very heavy out of LAX. Flight time was 15 hours 30 minutes, with almost the entire flight being in daylight as we travelled over the North Pole. Emirates has launched new Bvlgari amenity kits onboard and I was able to check out both the male and female versions. I enjoyed my flight in my private suite with private dining and rest. I also used the Emirates First Class Shower and Spa, to have a shower in the sky to refresh me before landing in Dubai.

At the end of my flight, I share some good tips on how to upgrade to First Class on Emirates. I also make my conclusion
