Shroud Cay - Bahamas Aerial View

24°30,71N / 76°46,03W Exuma - Shroud Cay Süd
This is my most favourite place in the Exumas! Only a Gemini catamran can enter here. Even at high tide there are just 4 feet at the shallowest parts close to Shroud Cay. In the small lagoon there are 5 feet at low tide. In this area there are miles of fantastic beaches and sandbars. At low tide big areas between Hawksbill Cay and Shroud Cay fall dry. No waves, no mosquitos. The colours of the water are superb.

--- I am sailing with my Gemini 105MC catamaran NIRVANA every year to the central Bahamas, the island chain of the Exumas. In the summer hurricane season I leave my boat in Florida in the Indiantown Marina near Lake Okeechobee and fly home to Germany.

139: Sailing to Shroud Cay, Exumas, Bahamas; crystal clear water, beautiful delta area

Shroud Cay was our final stop in the Exumas and it didn't disappoint. We loved our time there especially because we were able to reunite with our friends Carolyn and Keith. We met them the day we checked into Great Inagua. They are a lot of fun and similar to us, they are new cruisers. We all laughed as we shared stories of our mishaps and accidents in our first 6 months of cruising.

The next day, at high tide, we picked them up and headed over to the mangrove river. From satellite views, it appeared that the delta of the river into the ocean looked like a pretty amazing spot to check out. And, it was extraordinary! I loved it because I could hike the ridgeline and get amazing views of the water as well as the mangrove river and but then we could also walk out on the sand bars and get great drone footage. Many thanks to Jeff for his drone shots. He did such a fantastic job!

Our time in the Exumas was coming to an end which was disappointing, but we looked forward to heading north and seeing friends and family!

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call home. After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.

So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!

As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

Exploring Shroud Cay in The Bahamas Ep. 38

Yesterday we sailed from Highborne Cay to Shroud Cay in the Exumas of The Bahamas! We had quite the scare when we noticed something was burning down below as we were coming in to anchor!

Check that video out here:

We found a fantastic spot to anchor and besides the awful smell of smoke, we slept great that night! The following day we went exploring on our dinghy and found some incredible places to explore! The sand on Shroud Cay was extremely soft and felt like we were walking in cake batter or deep warm snow. One of our favorite things about this area of Shroud Cay was the crescent sharped sand bar with the perfect lagoon in the middle. It was a perfect place to swim and relax in the water.

The Waterslide at Shroud Cay, Exuma Bahamas

An uninhabited island in the Exumas, Bahamas. Only accessible by boat. If you anchor on the lee side of Shroud Cay and then dinghy through the mangrove lined river to the ocean side. You will find the waterslide, named for it's tidal currents that provide a waterslide like ride through the cut. Video taken with a dji Phantom 4, with a 4k camera, only set to 1080p.

Come sailing with Pyscho Skipper Captain Ed in the Croatia or the Bahamas!

The Sanctuary Creek dinghy ride at Shroud Cay is an absolute must for any Exumas visit.

You need to time it right, and take the trip on a mid-high rising tide. When the tide starts to go out, you'll be rewarded with the fun water slide that drops you into the ocean side of Exuma Sound.

Camp Driftwood is also nearby and worth exploring, so bring some walking shoes. It was built in the 1960s by a hermit who lived there with his sailboat. The camp was later used by the DEA to conduct reconnaissance on the drug kingpin Carlos Lehder’s operation at Norman Cay.

Shroud Cay -- Amazing Beach in the Exumas, Bahamas

Shroud Cay is the northernmost part of the Exumas Land and Sea Park. The beach on its eastern side, accessible from the western anchorages through a mangrove river, is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Unspoiled with crystal clear waters, the colors are simply magnificient. What an amazing place it is for kitesurfing - if of course the wind ever picks up. Sorry about the bad quality of some shots, I did not clean the lens of my GoPro...
