WESTERN SAHARA to MAURITANIA: from Dakhla to the most dangerous border of the world // EPS.2
Three months after we drove the motorcycles to Dakhla, we continued our journey in the desert of Morocco/Western Sahara. We had heard many nightmare stories about the border of Mauritania ahead (it was supposed to be the most dangerous border in the world with a lawless No Man's land with landmines and small sandy tracks). But our first obstacle when returning to Dakhla was to find a motorcycle garage for changing the tires of our bikes before we could enjoy the oasis of Dakhla for Kitesurfing. A little break before we really started our adventure ride south through the desert on the westcoast of Africa. On the way through Morocco/ Western Sahara we came across many checkpoints, beautiful dunes and amazing landscapes before we finally hit the border of Mauritania...

Un territoire hostile, on abandonne notre itinéraire architectural. MAURITANIE - T. AFRIQUE ep. 12
Notre plan était de visiter les 4 villes du désert. Si Ouadane et Chinguetti nous ont semblé isolés et difficiles d’accès dans la précédente vidéo, ce n’était rien comparé à leurs sœurs Tichitt et Oualata. Ces deux villes sont dans une région peu touristique, au milieux du désert, au bout d’interminables pistes et beaucoup trop proche du Mali.
Nous sommes donc contraints de faire demi-tour au milieu de notre itinéraire.
On ne perd pas le moral et on décide de découvrir la capitale de la Mauritanie, Nouakchott.

MAURITANIA: Breakdown in the middle of the desert! Terjit Oasis and Chinguetti // EPS. 3
The rough ride through Mauritania: Breakdown in the middle of the desert, a trip to an ancient town that gets burried by the dunes, and new friends who helped us solve our problems.
We started off in the mauritanian city Nouadhibou, where we learned how to adapt to local customs. After a short stay in Mauritanias capital Nouakchott we started our journey inlands – hundreds of kilometers in the burning heat with 40 degrees celsius plus. When doing a little excursion to the oasis Terjit we got stuck in deep sand – and my travel partner burnt the clutch of his Africa Twin motorcycle. With the help of the whole village we were able to get to a local guesthouse – but the Africa Twin would not start anymore. While looking for a solution I did excursions to the city Atar and the ancient town Chinguetti, which once was one of the most important cities of Islam. How we solved the problem with the motorcycle? Watch the whole episode to find out if we were ever able to leave the oasis of Terjit!

Quand le Sahara rencontre l'océan les paysages sont somptueux, mais ils se méritent et mieux vaut s'y aventurer en connaissance de cause pour éviter de se retrouver dans des vasières inextricables.
When the Sahara meets the ocean the landscapes are sumptuous, but they are deserved and it is better to venture there knowingly to avoid ending up in inextricable mudflats.
عندما تلتقي الصحراء بالمحيط ، تكون المناظر الطبيعية فخمة ، لكنها تستحق ومن الأفضل المغامرة هناك عن قصد لتجنب أن ينتهي بك الأمر في سهول طينية لا تنفصم.
La solution est pourtant simple : ne pas sortir des traces.
The solution, however, is simple: do not leave the traces.
لكن الحل بسيط: لا تترك المسار.
Mais si vous voulez atteindre des sites reculés de toute beauté il faudra alors, dans les zones à risques, rouler à 15 km/h en 2x4 et les pneus dégonflés.
But if you want to reach remote sites of great beauty, in risk areas, you will have to drive at 15 km/h in a 2x4 with deflated tires.
ولكن إذا كنت ترغب في الوصول إلى المواقع النائية ذات الجمال الرائع ، في المناطق الخطرة ، فسيتعين عليك القيادة بسرعة 15 كم / ساعة في سيارة 2 × 4 بإطارات مفرغة من الهواء.
Et quand le véhicule s'enfonce, passer le 4x4 et reculer, voir poser les plaques sable (des bonnes plaques sable !!!). En suivant ce protocole vous pourrez aller presque partout.
And when the vehicle sinks, pass the 4x4 and back up, see how to lay the sand plates (good sand plates!!!). By following this protocol you will be able to go almost anywhere.

A contrario, si vous rouler déjà en 4x4 et à 50 km/h, vous serez loin au milieu de la vasière quand votre 4x4 s'enfoncera, et dans l'impossibilité d'en sortir sans de gros gros efforts.
On the other hand, if you are already driving in a 4x4 and at 50 km/h, you will already be well in the middle of the mudflat when your 4x4 sinks, and unable to get out without great effort.
