Moldova - the Poorest country in Europe. Moldova, a landlocked republic in eastern Europe, formerly a European soviet has remained impoverished 30 years after its independence. The authorities in the poorest country in Europe are worried about the rate specialized labor is leaving the country and lack of economic development. But why is Moldova the poorest country in Europe?

According to some estimates, some 25% percent of Moldovans are working abroad, making it the 11th highest in the world. Commenting on this saddening situation, Veaceslav Ionita, a Moldovan economist and prominent politician, once said: “Our people, our immigrants, most of them are now in the European Union western countries.” Dichotomizing the situation, Ionita added: “We have immigrants in Russia but it's more poor people, from rural areas, because it is easier to go to Russia, and usually for a short term. They go to Europe for the long term.

10 Poorest Places in The UK
What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

Romania, Village Life in Transylvania
A beautiful little documentary of village life in Gyimes, in the South Eastern Carpathians in 2018. Ancient, vernacular, small farm-houses line the stoned side roads on which horse-drawn vehicles carry logs, hay, stone and people this way and that all day long. Most people live by small-scale farming producing their own honey, cheese, bread, veg and fruit, milk and meat. Water is always from the well, pure, sparkling and cold. Cows and sheep wear bells and high above the village the mountain meadows hum with insect life while the extraordinarily rich flora remains untouched by sprays and chemicals.
Szekler people, Romania's Hungarian speaking minority live in Gyimes, which now lies within Bacau county. The history of the area and its association with Transylvania, is very complicated .... I am no historian and apologise for any errors I have made.

Luník 9, the biggest Roma slum in Europe
A short documentary about Luník IX, a neighbourhood in the city of Košice, Slovakia. Here is located the largest community of Romani people in Slovakia, and maybe in Europe. The Roma people in Lunik 9 is living in very precarious conditions, and are distinguished by a very high birth and death rates, and an very high unemployment. Some residents seem to get rid of their garbage by throwing it out from the balcony, and the condition of some of the buildings is very bad, and their stability is compromised.

Romania is a country filled with gorgeous nature and a deep and vast history. But it also has a slightly questionable reputation in certain parts of Europe. This video explores the question: just how bad is it in Romania?
From the historical and beautiful region of Transylvania, to a growing middle-class in the cities, to poor villages in the countryside, Romania is not a country with just one population and one way of living. But there are still some general problems to discuss.
Romania has among the lowest average salaries in the EU, and they also spend less on research and development than most countries. There are also reports of Romania being a discriminatory country, against not only the Roma people, but against trans and gay people as well. And I also bring up some points about recycling targets, infrastructure, corruption... In general, there are some points where Romania can improve.
However, Romania is an absolutely lovely country with friendly and welcoming people. There's a lot to see and experience in this historical region, and if you decide to visit - despite any notions you may have about the country - you will be pleasantly surprised.

A short documentary that explores the current state of one of Ethiopia's poorest villages, the village of Korah and the challenges the people there face every day.
ABOUT KORAH
The village of Korah is a small village just outside Addis Ababa, the capitol city of Ethiopia. The village was founded over seventy five years ago by people inflicted with leprosy, seeking treatment in Addis. Three generations later, over 100,000 people live in Korah, most of whom have leprosy, HIV/AIDS, are widows or orphans. Their extreme poverty has forced many of the villagers to forage through a local trash dump to find enough food to survive each day.

モルドバは東ヨーロッパのウクライナとルーマニアの間に位置しており、面積は3.4万km2、九州より少し小さい小国、人口は69万人なので、人口密度はかなり低いです。
中世にルーマニア人が建国した国で、公用語はモルドバ語ですが、ほぼルーマニア語と同じ言語で、国旗はルーマニア国旗の中心に鷲と牛の紋章を加えたものです。
2005年に日本でも流行ったこの曲覚えてますか？
モルドバ出身のグループ「O-Zone(オゾン)」の曲恋のマイアヒです。
モルドバ人がルーマニア語で歌っています。
モルドバ人はルーマニアとモルドバはほぼ同じと考えているようです。
また、気候に恵まれたモルドバはワインが名産で国内に200以上のワイナリーがあります。モルドバで2番目に大きい、クリコバ・ワイナリーには地下に200㎞にも及ぶ巨大なワイン貯蔵庫があり世界一です。

お客さんに民族音楽のライブ付きのいい感じのレストランに連れてきてもらいました。有名人もたくさん来ているみたいです。
店内は田舎のモルドバの雰囲気でいい感じです。ライブも最高でした。
料理はこの肉料理に、トウモロコシ粉の主食ママリガと羊のチーズ、ブランザをかけて食べると最高！濃厚な赤ワインとよく合う！
3日目：
なんとか午前中で仕事を終わらせて、午後は観光に来ました。
●クリコバ・ワイナリー
Cricova Winery
キシナウ中心部から北に15㎞、車で20分ほどで、世界最大級のクリコバ・ワイナリーがあります。
クリコバ・ワイナリーはモルドバで2番目に大きなワイナリー、ロシアのロマノフ王朝でも愛飲されており、ロシアのプーチン大統領50歳の誕生日会をここで開いたそうですよ！
ワインの保管庫には、プーチン大統領のワインコレクションがありました。制裁としプーチンのワインを没収してほしいですね。
さあワイナリーツアーの始まりです。
まずはモルドバワインについて、ビデオでお勉強。
次に、カートに乗って、地下のワイン貯蔵庫をガイド付きで見て回りました。碁盤の目に張り巡らされた地下倉庫は全長200㎞、これは世界一の長さだそうです。
ワインの作り方の説明を聞いて、製造ラインを見て回りました。次にワイン博物館ではワインの歴史について学びました。ワイン自体の歴史や、ここクリコバの歴史についての説明です。
次にクリコバ自慢の世界各国のワインコレクションです。
洞窟内に作った地下貯蔵庫は見た目にも美しいですね。100万本以上のワインが貯蔵されています。
フランス、ボルドーの1級シャトー、シャトームートン1936年もの、これは貴重ですね。1本数百万円かなあ。
こちらは1902年にイスラエルのエルサレムで作られたワイン（Evreiesc）、100年以上前のワイン、歴史的にも重要ですね。
これは、クリコバが世界各国にワインを輸出している国を世界地図に表したものです。
日本にも輸出してますね。
さてお待ちかねの試飲です。
まずは冷えた白ワイン、そしてフルボディの赤ワイン、最後にスパークリングワインです。
どれも最高でした。
実際にショップでワインを購入しました。
モルドバの物価が安いこともあって、どのワインも日本円で500円からとかなり安いです。
ダースで買いたかったですが、帰りはフライトなので、一番高級の赤とスパークリングワインを買いました。
家で飲んだら最高でしたよ！
モルドバはヨーロッパの最貧民国ということですが、とてもそうとは思えませんでした。
実際、一人当たりのGDPは4523ドルでウクライナよりも上です。でも日本のGDPの約10分の1なので、物価はかなり安いです。

●オルヘイ・ベッキ(Orhei Vechi)
クリコバからさらに40㎞程北に行くと・・・・かなりの田舎にやってきました。
ラウト川が流れる小さな村トレブナ村にあるモルドバ一の観光地「オルヘイ・ベッキ(Orhei Vechi)」です。
大自然に囲まれた谷間の絶景と、断崖絶壁を削って作った洞窟の中にあるモルドバ正教の洞窟修道院が有名で、今でも修道士たちが住む「生きた信仰の地」で、世界遺産の暫定リストの1つとなっています。
近いうちに世界遺産に登録されるかもしれません。
丘の上から谷間、川を見ながら散策しました。草原が広がっていて雄大な自然を満喫しました。まるでジブリ映画のナウシカやラピュタの世界のようでした。
崖のふちには古い石でできた十字架がありました。大自然の中、孤独に立つ神秘的な十字架のため「触れると願いがかなう」という言い伝えがあるそうです。
戻って歩いていくと、教会の上の鐘の部分だけが見えます。そして小さな洞窟の入口があるので、入ってみましょう。
かつてモルドバは、周りの国からの侵略を受けていた歴史があり、外敵から見つかりづらいようにした造りになっています。
洞窟の中に作られた岩窟修道院、14～16世紀ごろに建てられ、今でも人々が祈りを捧げにやってきます。
狭い入り口をくぐり、修道院の内部に入ってきました。くり抜かれた窓からは、太陽の光が差し込みます。
奥へと進んでゆくと、小さな祭壇があります。
キリストやマリア、使徒たちの絵画がところせましと飾られています。
中には教会が建てられた14世紀に描かれた絵画もあり、数百年の間守られてきたことがわかります。
石灰岩をくりぬいた出口から外に出ることができます。
断崖絶壁に建てられていることがわかりますね。ここからの景色は絶景です！
岩の外壁をよく見ると・・・所々にコインがはめ込まれています。人々が願いをかけてコインをはめ込んでいくのでしょう。人々の思いを強く感じました。
さて、洞窟修道院から100mほど歩いたところには、モルドバ正教会の教会があり、こちらは新しい教会のようです。
内壁に鮮やかな色で描かれた美しいキリスト絵画、金の祭壇は感動的な美しさでした。
●Villa Etnica
さて、近くの店でランチです。お客さんにごちそうになりました。
かわいらしいデカンタに継がれた赤ワインと、前菜としてピザのようなもの、これがうまい！
そしてメイン料理はモルドバの郷土料理、トウモロコシの粉と小麦粉の主食、ママリガに羊のチーズ、ブランザやその他副菜が添えられています。メインの牛肉煮込みとこれら副菜を一緒に食べると最高！ワインともよく合います。
見た目も味も最高！思い出に残る一品でした。
ホテルに戻って、部屋で一人でキシナウビールを飲みながら、ウサギを白ワインで煮込んだ料理を食べました。
