Scientists Warn of Mega Earthquake That Will Hit the United States

Did You Know?
- Underground fault lubrication fluids may influence earthquake likelihood along the volatile Cascadia Subduction Zone fault
- A newly discovered offshore vent dubbed Pythia's Oasis reveals these lubricating forces possibly linking to seismic strain
- The Cascadia megaquake threat has come into clearer focus after scientists uncovered new evidence of heightening risk off the Oregon Coast

This newly released video investigates a strange phenomenon detected 50 miles offshore that has ignited concerns over heightened megaquake risk looming in the Pacific Northwest. Dubbed Pythia's Oasis after the prophetic Oracle believed to intake gaseous fumes, the undersea vent is expelling hot mineral-rich fluid from deep within the ocean crust near the Cascadia Subduction Zone fault.

Analysis suggests these lubricating liquids play an integral yet precarious role easing friction between typically locked tectonic plates. Dramatic leakage appears tied to accumulation of tension that causes the plates to suddenly lurch past each other, unleashing violent earthquakes. This video details how the discovery adds chilling credence to projections that the Pacific Northwest faces risk of a magnitude 9 megaquake on par with Japan's catastrophic 2011 temblor.

Delving into the cutting-edge monitoring and simulation technology used to study the intricate mechanics in play miles below the earth's surface, the footage reveals the tense race against time toward preparedness as geologic forces escalate unseen across the region. With millions residing nearby vulnerable infrastructure built well before the hazard's true scope was understood, the video explores state of readiness in coastal communities as the threat comes into clearer focus.

Offering rare glimpses into both the relentless geologic forces at play far beneath the seafloor and the dedicated experts working around the clock to comprehend them, this video provides captivating context around an unseen yet epic phenomenon that could one day wreak untold havoc without warning. Will the lessons learned from global tragedies and alarm bells now ringing among researchers coalesce into responsive action in time when the earth finally furiously shakes?

Flying a small airplane over the San Andreas fault

One of the largest earthquakes in United States history happened here in 1857. Fly a small airplane over the San Andreas fault and learn about one of the most infamous earthquake faults in the world. Follow along in my Grumman Tiger as we explore the Carrizo Plain and see from a unique perspective how this deadly earthquake fault has changed over thousands of years. The 1857 Fort Tejon earthquake measured 7.9 on the richter scale. California is long overdue for another Big One from this massive fault.

Japan Next Disaster!!

Japan is a country that has dealt with its fair share of conflicts and natural disasters throughout history.

Due to the country’s location, which sits on an area known as the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, the Land of the Rising Sun is vulnerable to disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis. Scientists are predicting that a ‘mega-earthquake’ will hit the the capital city of Tokyo within the next 30 years, with a magnitude 7 quake likely to cause severe devastation and destruction!

The Worst Place to Be During a Tsunami

The geologic record of the Pacific Northwest shows that a major earthquake and tsunami happens about every 246 years. And the last one happened on January 26th, 1700 at the turn of the century. It's now 2022. So we're overdue for a major earthquake and tsunami (76 years overdue).

The place that I am right now, between the Pacific Ocean and these massive cliffs, is about the worst place I can imagine being during a tsunami.

For an earthquake, you've got rocks come tumbling down this way. The ocean is going to be sucked out. And then I would have to either head a mile back over these giant cobbles and then upland or head up the cliffs to try and get to safety before the tsunami came in. And I don't like either of those options.

Let's head on out. I don’t think a tsunami is happening today. But I don't want to take my chances.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS, formerly simply Geological Survey) is a scientific agency of the United States government. The scientists of the USGS study the landscape of the United States, its natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten it. The organization has four major science disciplines, concerning biology, geography, geology, and hydrology. The USGS is a fact-finding research organization with no regulatory responsibility.
The USGS is a bureau of the United States Department of the Interior; it is that department's sole scientific agency. The USGS employs approximately 8,670 people[2] and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia. The USGS also has major offices near Lakewood, Colorado, at the Denver Federal Center, and Menlo Park, California.
The current motto of the USGS, in use since August 1997, is science for a changing world.[3][4] The agency's previous slogan, adopted on the occasion of its hundredth anniversary, was Earth Science in the Public Service.
