Old Macau in 1960 澳門

Macau as I saw it many years ago. It was still a Portugese colony. Its harbor, Ma-Kwok temple, St.Paul's Cathedral facade, Chiang Kai Shek's portrait was still displayed, firecracker industry, ferry with refugees.See also clip:

Amazing Things to Do in Macau & Top Macau Attractions

Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Macau & Top Macau Attractions. Welcome to Macau - Las Vegas of the East. Apart from the huge number of casinos, the city has a unique atmosphere where you can experience a fusion of Chinese culture and rich Portuguese heritage. If you are going to visit Hong Kong, Macau is only 60 kilometers away. The cities are connected by a system of tunnels and bridges, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge - the world's longest continuous infrastructure construction across the sea.
Whether or not you are a fan of gambling, don't miss a visit to the biggest casino resort in the world - Venetian Macau. A visit to this breathtaking place can take up to a whole day. You don't have to be a guest to experience a cruise in a Venetian gondola, and nowhere in Asia are there more luxury shops concentrated in one place than here.
History lovers shouldn't miss a visit to the A-Ma Temple. It is believed that the name of the city is derived from the name of this temple. Its origins date back to the 15th century AD, and it is one of the oldest traditional temples in Macau. The complex is made up of 6 sections, each of which reveals the gems of classical Chinese architecture. When you visit, don't forget to write, and hang your wishes if you want them to be fulfilled.
The city was a Portuguese colony for more than 400 years, as evidenced by the ruins of the 16th-century complex, where the beautiful facade and the front stairway of St. Paul's Cathedral are the best preserved.
The best place to breathe the history of old Macau is the Largo do Senado Square, the governmental centre from the colonial era. You will find splendid pastel-colored classic buildings, shops, and restaurants with typical southern European architecture. When walking through the old city, we recommend trying local cuisine - it is a unique mixture of Chinese and Portuguese tastes.
At a close distance to the square, about 5 minutes by foot, visit the late 16th-century Baroque-style St. Dominic's Church - the oldest church building in the city. This building shows the mixture of European and local Macanese features in its design. The church's high altar features a beautiful statue of the Madonna and Child as the centerpiece and is flanked by wood and ivory-carved statues of several saints.
Not afraid of heights? Then you must visit the 338-metre-high Macau Tower. Its observation deck features the best views of the city, restaurants, theatres, and shopping malls.

Macau Behind The Casinos (Where Tourists Don't Go) ????????

The tourist side of Macau with all the casinos ➡️
My first time In Macau! Let's have a look behind the glamour of the casinos.

I arrived in Macau two days ago and in my first video from this city we had a look at the famous places, the casinos and the places that are full with tourists. But I am also curious the see the other side of Macau. The side where the locals live, behind the glamour of all the casinos and neon lights. Join me as we explore the very northern end of Macao, as well as the very southern end.

Due to the expansive urban development, two thirds of the land is reclaimed from the sea. We were able to experience Macau, both new and old, from modern casinos to remnants of its colonial past.

Walking in Taipa Village: Macau's Perfect Blend of Old and New | 4K 60FPS tour

Taipa village is our final video in this series on Macau. Marketed as Authentic Macau, it stands in opposition to the casinos the SAR is so famous for. Of course, prior videos have demonstrated that Macau is more than just gambling and glitz - so what makes this one different?

To me, it's how well Taipa exemplifies everything Macau has to offer. Stone-cobbled streets are lined with storied temples. Egg tarts and dried seafood are sold side by side. There's even a green expanse in the form of the wetland park overlooked by an old Jesuit church.

In a word, it's beautiful, and it manages to keep aesthetics in balance that would look tacky anywhere else in the world. Sure, there's a lot of tourists on Rua do Cunha. But maybe - just maybe - they're there because it really is worth visiting.

Would I recommend Macau to those looking for a holiday? Absolutely! I'm based out of the UK, and, given that it's so damn far away, it's obviously a real trek. But if you're in the region and you can spare a couple of days? I think it's worth it for the food alone. The people are incredibly warm and kind, the standard of English for people who aren't confident in their Cantonese is excellent (arguably on par with Hong Kong in 2023), and there's so much there that you can't get anywhere else. It's visa free for most people and only about an hour on the ferry from HK, so you can even go on a day trip if you're there.

On the subject of HK: Videos from the city return next week. Not too many left. Still fighting hard to get my thesis out. Who said machine learning was easy?

Macau Travel Guide

A travel guide for visiting the Historic Portuguese Center of Macau. Macau (also spelled Macao) was a colony of Portugal from 1557 from 1999 and has a very interesting mix of Asian and European architectures. The Center of the old city is Senado Square which has a pedestrianized street that leads to the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral. Macau derived it's name from the A-Ma Temple, originally built in 1448 and still standing today.
