India's MOST DANGEROUS Rail BRIDGE PAMBAN Rameswaram.

The Pamban Sea Bridge is a railway bridge constructed on the Palk Strait which connects the Island town of Rameswaram to the rest of India. This is the first ever Sea Bridge constructed in India and is about 2 KM long opened to service on 24 February 1914. So far this has been one of the most dangerous and deadly Sea Bridges ever constructed due to its low raised concrete piers just a few feet above the sea water level. The piers almost go invisible when the water level raises during heavy monsoons. The Bridge is restricted to a speed of only 15 KPH due to the double leaf bascule section midway (Cantilever), which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. An anemometer fixed on the 56th pier over the bridge records the velocity of the wind. Whenever the velocity of the wind exceeds 58 KPH, the signals are turned red preventing any train movement on the bridge.

The bridge is located in the world's second most corrosive environment after Florida, making its maintenance a challenging job. The location is also a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone. The bridge consist of 143 piers and the center span is a Scherzer rolling type lift span. Each half of the lifting span weighs approximately 415 tonnes.

The Bridge was originally in Meter gauge alignment and was converted to Broad gauge in 2008.

The adjacent road bridge was opened in 1988 until then Rail and Ferry services were the only means of transport to cross the Sea.

This video covers a lot of Trains moving over the Bridge from various view points. Some spots were really risky. The stretch is non electrified between Trichy - Rameswaram and Madurai -Ramerswaram hence all trains are powered by ALCo's only, EMD's have never been tested on this Bridge.

It is considered one of the world’s most dangerous train rides. The section of Ecuador’s railway aptly titled ‘the Devil’s Nose’, was responsible for some 2000 deaths during construction and even a few gringos after that.

The Devil’s Nose traverses the rocky slopes of the Andes and drops 500 meters over a course of 12km via a switch back system.  The switch-back track involves the train moving past a junction, stopping and then heading back down the section to the next junction and moving forward again continuing down the mountain.

The steepest descent of any section of railroad track in the world (including two switchbacks), with impressive views of the Andean terrain , La Nariz del Diablo (The Devil's Nose), is just outside Alausí. You can take this ride either on a normal train coming from Riobamba or you can take a tourist train that just goes down the devil´s nose and back up.

Deadliest Journeys - Congo: The Last Train in Katanga

In Katanga more than 2000 people, three times the train's capacity, are squeezing in the carriages of the Swallow. Conditions are precarious on the train, which crosses the whole country in more than a week, stopping in several villages. But the journey isn't easy. The rails are poorly maintained, accidents frequent and the journey is risky.

00:00 The majority of roads in the Congo are either impossible to traverse or simply non-existent. Unfortunately, air travel, the only dependable mode of transportation, remains inaccessible to the Congolese population.
04:25 In the southern region, the Hirondelle train embarks on a journey that spans half the country, connecting Lubumbashi, the capital of Katanga, to Ilebo. This train serves as the sole lifeline for the most isolated villages.
13:40 During the rainy season, the roads become completely impassable.
20:00 Some individuals resort to crossing the country on bicycles in order to sell their goods.
27:15 Trains are frequently halted to accommodate hurried passengers.
31:21 Within the Congo, certain territories are still governed by traditional kings.
37:40 On dilapidated roads, bicycles require frequent repairs.
44:17 Regularly targeted by saboteurs, traffickers bring the train to a halt, disrupting its operations.

The Death railway, Thailand world's most dangerous train route | Thailand travel | shock wave

The Pamban bridge connects Rameswaram Island with the mainland.

It is considered to be one of the most dangerous railway line in the world because this railway line remains at a very low elevation from the sea and the waves reach the top of the railway line even when strong winds or small storms occur in the sea.

This railway line was destroyed in 1964 Cyclone. This cyclone was so powerful that it caused waves up to 7 meters high in the sea. These waves swept the railway line along which a passenger train also sank into the sea and more than 100 people present in that train lost their lives. But even then the Pamban Bridge did not suffer much damage. After this accident, the bridge has sensors installed that measure the wind speed and the train is stopped as soon as the wind speed exceeds 58 kilometers per hour.

Top 10 Most Dangerous but Spectacular Train Routes in the World-The MOST DANGEROUS and EXTREME

Top 10 Most Dangerous but Spectacular Train Routes in the World 2017-The MOST DANGEROUS and EXTREME RAILWAYS

While millions of train routes run across countries throughout the world, some can be hair raising in terms of the dangerous nature of their location.
1 Argo Gede Train Railroad – Indonesia
The Argo-Gede railroad runs from Jakarta to Bandung in Indonesia. It is an extremely high route that runs across the Cikurutug pylon trestle bridge that can send a shiver running down your spine. What is most eerie is the sheer huge drop deep down in the subtropical valley below.
9 Bamboo Trains, Cambodia
Cambodia’s train routes were built by the French but many were subsequently destroyed by the dreaded Khmer Rouge regime. Locals then started utilizing the bamboo train routes as they called them because of using handmade carts that wee propelled across the tracks for domestic use. It was highly dangerous but today some of these carts have been fortified and used as a tourist attraction.
8 The Death Railway, Thailand
Have you ever heard or seen the iconic war movie “Bridge on the River Kwai”? Well!! This is the very same track of railroad that passes through the river which featured in the film. The Death railway, as it is called, is located in Kanchanburi Province in Thailand bordering Myanmar. It was this section on which hundred of British and American POW’s died during its construction under the Japanese in WWII. The track is of course very scenic and runs through lush forest cover.
7 Aso Minami Route, Japan
Would you ride a train that passes through an active volcano? Believe it or not, the Aso Minami train route passes through Japan’s most active volcanic region. Regardless of how good the system authorities cannot predict when an eruption could happen. The proof of such impending danger is well furnished in the lava burnt forest bordering the track.
6 Devil’s Nose Train, Ecuador
The Nariz Del Diablo train route in Ecuador has been aptly named and translates as The Devil’s Nose. Running high up in the Andes Mountains, it can actually scare you out of your wits, because it is one of the scariest train rides in the world. Located at a very high altitude of 9000 ft, it well qualifies as one of the most dangerous train routes in the world. Thrill seekers can even experience old boxcars which cling onto to steep mountain inclines.
5 Kuranda Scenic Railroad, Australia
The Kuranda Scenic railroad is breathtaking as it is dangerous. It runs through some spectacular forest surroundings which happens to be part of the Barron Gorge National Park. At, certain spots, the train passes extremely close to waterfalls which spray the entire train with water. The train route runs from cairns in Australia to kuranda which is North Queensland’s world heritage rain forest.
4 Chennai-Rameswaram Route, India
This is one awesome train route which runs across a huge length of track measuring 2,065 meters. The Pamdan Railway Bridge constructed in 1914 runs upon an extremely low level cantilever sea bridge connecting South India to the island of Rameswaram part of the state of Chennai. If you happen to look out of the train windows, all you will see is just the sea and not path or road. It is a lifetime experience if you are upto to it.
3 Tren a las Nubes, Argentina
It took 27 years to complete this railroad which included one of the most dangerous zigzagging spirals across mountain terrain. The Tren a las Nubes in Argentina is more of an airplane ride as it passes through clouds high up in the mountains of North central Argentina near the Chilean border. The route is so extensive that it runs through 21 tunnels and 13 equally spectacular bridges.
2 White Pass and Yukon Route, Alaska, USA
The White Pass and Yukon route is a narrow gauge rail route linking Skagway in Alaska with Whitehorse Yukon. There is nothing deadlier than this railway route which practically hugs the steep cliffs it runs through. The railroad was built in 1898 during the height of the Klondike gold rush and used extensively. Today however it is only used as a tourist attraction.
1 Georgetown Loop Railroad, Colorado, USA
The USA is full of narrow gauge railroads but this one in the Rocky Mountains can well be the most dangerous train routes in the world. It is located in Clear Creek County and was built to help prospectors reach the silver mines in the area. The scariest part of the railroad route is the Devil’s gate Bridge where the train needs to move as slow as possible for fear of the bridge giving way.

Train's coming - off the tracks! We are altogether comfortable with that alarm, however, imagine a scenario where it occurs in an open street market.

Maeklong Railway Market is an amazing spot where the merchants need to move the canopies and shop fronts again from the tracks each time a prepare approaches so it can go through, at that point supplant the things when the train has passed. The train could come as customary as many times each day, contingent upon the train schedule. That is the reason the market is additionally alluded to as Collapsing umbrella Market, a rising site to visit when venturing out to Thailand.

This market has everything that we've come to know and love in Thai markets. Its slows down have showcases of organic products, veggies, meats, fish, and also sweet snacks, apparel, and blossoms. The real contrast is that there are train tracks running straight down its center.

A beguiling small cautioning alarm goes off finished the speaker framework only a couple of minutes before the train comes. Inside a few minutes of getting the notice, sellers pull back their uniquely composed overhangs previously the train comes, now and again just minutes previously. That is the reason the market is locally known as the Talat Rom Hoop, which translates into Market Umbrella Close.

World's Most Scariest Gokteik Viaduct Myanmar Burma Railway Bridge | TRAIN | Railway - ShockWave

One of Burma’s most stunning man-made marvels built by the colonial British, Gokteik Viaduct is a spectacular railway bridge over 100 metres above the ground and nearly 700 metres long.
Constructed by British colonialists in 1901, Gokteik was once the longest railway trestle in the world. Located near Nawnghkio, about 100 km from Mandalay.

The height of the bridge at 250 meters. This is supposedly a measurement to the river level as it flows underground through a tunnel at the point it passes underneath the trestle. The true height of the bridge as measured from the rail deck to the ground on the downstream side of the tallest tower is 102 meters. Stretching 689 meters from end to end, the viaduct has 14 towers that span 12 meters along with a double tower 24 meters long. These 15 towers support 10 deck truss spans of 37 meters, along with six steel-plate girder spans 18 meters long and an approach span of 12 meters.

The most dangerous, extreme and beautiful railways in the World. A video you must watch: the World's most incredible, unbelievable, unimaginable, impossible and amazing railways!

- Nariz Del Diablo railway, Ecuador: the construction of this railroad began in 1899 and its highest point has an altitude of 11,841 ft (3609 m)

- Token exchange: this rudimentary and very dangerous railway signalling is incredibly still in use in some Asian nations, including Sri Lanka, Singapore and Thailand; a token is a physical object which a locomotive driver is required to have before entering onto a particular section of a railway

- North Borneo railway, Malaysia: construction began in 1896 and was almost entirely destroyed during the Second World War

- Mullan Pass, in the Rocky Mountains of Montana

- Qinghai–Tibet Railway, China: connects China to the autonomus region of Tibet and has a length of 1,215 miles (1956 km); the line includes the Tanggula Pass, which, at 16,640 feet (5072 m) above sea level, is the world's highest railway top 10
