Maoritai, The Coral Gardener - Free Range Humans Episode by Corona

One of our original gardeners, Maoritai, is featured in the Free Range Humans series, which highlights individuals who have left behind a conventional life indoors to preserve nature in unprecedented ways.

In this episode, Maoritai explores his connection to the ocean as an islander and how his whole life has been dependent on a healthy reef, leading to his mission with us to save what remains of the ocean’s coral life.

You can join our very own Aquaman in our movement to save the reef: coralgardeners.org

THE CORAL GARDENERS

Local Tahitian youth in Moorea have seen the coral reef start to bleach over the last few years and they've decided to take action.

They've banded together to form a NGO group called 'The Coral Gardeners' which has 2 goals.

The first goal is to raise awareness & hopefully change the mindset of people around the world. They've done this through going to school classrooms, holding conferences and bringing awareness to the issues online.

The second goal is coral restoration which is where the gardening comes in. Check out the video above to see how it's all done.

Amazing Underwater World - Sculptures by Jason Decaires Taylor

Art by Jason Decaires Taylor -
Song: Bottom of the Sea by Dhruva Aliman - Amazon- - - - - Spotify - ...... In November 2009 Jason deCaires Taylor started a monumental project off the coast of Cancún in Mexico. He created and placed hundreds of statues that look like forgotten ancient relics in shallow waters in the Cancún National Marine Park, which had been previously damaged by storms. He has made more than 500 of the life-sized permanent sculptures and they are all made with specialised pH-neutral marine concrete used to promote viral life. The project has been named The Silent Evolution and is classed as an underwater museum that is called MUSA. Snorkelers, scuba divers, and tourists in glass-bottom boats can go to visit this strange museum and the installation is intended to eventually cover more than 4,520 square feet, which would make it one of the largest underwater attractions in the world. Jason deCaires Taylor planned for the sculptures to become artificial reefs and some have coral planted on or near them. The statues will become covered with coral over time, due to the natural propagation of corals already present in the vicinity. Each year 750,000 tourists visit the reef at Cancun and this puts stress on the natural reef due to Maurine pollution, warming waters and fishing. By creating these artistic sculptures the marine life will be able to grow and flourish in the shallow waters and the natural reefs can recover. Another amazing underwater modern sculpture is called the Christ of the Abyss. A submerged bronze statue of Jesus Christ, located in the Mediterranean Sea off San Fruttuoso and was placed in the waters on the 22nd august 1954. It depicts Christ offering a benediction of peace, with his head and hands raised skyward. Also the famous moai statues of Easter Island have a sunken head, in 1994 a Hollywood production sunk a moai head for the purpose of a movie. Another impressive sculptor is located about three miles off the key Biscayne in Miami. Named the Neptune Society Memorial Reef and inspired by the lost city of Atlantis it's purpose was originally a cemetery for cremated remains. The memorial site has statues, domes, arches, benches, gates, roads and 44 columns that make up this underwater city. Most of these sculptures are created for artistic purposes, but they also serve as artificial reefs that help nature thrive. So what at first may look like eerie but beautiful man made statues, actually turn out to be tools for the birth of marine organisms.

Villa Garden - Sanur, Bali - 4k

Presentation of Villa Garden in Sanur. Concept by C.S Architects International

The Mermaid & the Gardener

Cosmic mystery, a space of wonder, celestial beauty, and unimaginable vastness...that covers most of our own planet. Seven-tenths of the Earth’s surface is ocean, yet the vast majority of it remains a mystery. In fact, we know more about the surface of the moon than we do the bottom of the ocean — our own blue universe that surrounds and sustains us all. Our Planet needs healthy oceans; it’s time to turn things around.

In the last three decades, half of the world’s coral reefs have died and if we don’t act now, those ocean treasures will be completely gone by 2050. It would be the destruction of an entire ecosystem, and with it, ourselves.

Coral reef extinction profoundly impacts all species from marine life to human kind. We must be the generation to solve issues our oceans are facing. If we save our reefs we are one step closer to sustaining life on earth.

Japanese Garden or Japánkert. First one in Budapest, reopens! Very Lovely! - Budapest Hungary - ECTV

Hungary’s first Japanese garden reopens in Budapest

When in Budapest, have a relaxing walk in the beautifully restored Japanese Garden on Margaret Island. Enjoy an urban getaway in the tranquil park, sit down by the lake and feel the peaceful atmosphere inspired by Japanese culture.

There is a perfect harmony between rich vegetation, huge rocks, and wonderfully crafted water architectures. The heart of the park is the pond with water lilies, waterfall, and a wooden bridge where you can find the “Sitting Girl” statue made by Imre Csikász (1954), the statue is also known as “Mermaid of Budapest”.

The Japanese Garden on the Margaret Island is a beloved place by hobby- gardeners too, there are interesting separation ideas and innovative planting solutions.

Here's my biggest video project to date! It was done as part of a campaign I helped come up with and start (#ACleanerWorld) for our Mermaids & Pirates marketing. On the Aquarium's FB, it has over 5K views!

Our mermaids need your help to create #ACleanerWorld for their friends under the sea. Pirate Pippin has a special message (sung to the tune of Part of Your World). Now it's your turn to use what you've learned and show us how you're making a difference. Post a picture or comment below how you're creating #ACleanerWorld

Touring the Westport Winery Gardens and International Mermaid Museum

I love this place, so much to see and do, plus they have food, drinks, and desert. RV spots for rent soon! The garden is incredible. Susie does not work here in the cake department, whether she ever has or not I do not know, my info many years ago could have been wrong. Tanya the owner makes all of the recipes for the food and deserts, she has also written 3 books which is hugely impressive!

Ashurst Village & The Adur

On 25 May, during the Monday of the Spring bank holiday, I visited the little village of Ashurst. It was the holiday, but though I was there mainly to try to get some footage of the River Adur, I wandered around a bit in order to see this little corner of Sussex.

The door of the village church was open, and I took a brief tour of the grounds before making my hike to the river’s bank. It wasn’t a long walk, for normal people at least, but for my very much out-of-shape body it was a little challenging. The endorphin rush I got after putting forward the effort was kind of worth it! There was a lot of wind that day. My drone didn’t like it much!

Over the following weeks I made return visits to Ashurst to get more material for this video. I stopped to talk with Alex, the innkeeper at the village pub, the Fountain Inn, and got some photos and footage of the pub. In the video I say that the pub was founded in 1651, but that was a mishearing of what I learned from Alex. The pub was actually founded in 1581. Ooops, as they say!

Thanks to:
• Reverend Mark Heather, Rector of Saint James church in Ashurst, West Sussex, for information about the church.
