Is OCEAN CAY the BEST Private Island in the Bahamas?? (MSC Cruises)

Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, is the only private island we have not visited yet. So today is the day! First off, I LOVE that we have a very long day in port which is past sunset! Why can’t all the cruise lines do this?? We dock at 9 am and do not leave until 10 pm.

So we are able to leisurely get off the ship as we know we have plenty of time here. This is great so that we don’t feel rushed and there isn’t a mad dash of 4300 people trying to descend the island all at once! Looking at the island from the top of the ship, it seems small. But once you get off the ship it’s bigger than you think! Especially if you walk all the way to North Beach which is the furthest point from the ship.
We decided to rent a cabana for the day. This was a fabulous decision! And the price was not bad at all!! Pre-booking we were able to get the cabana for $250. This is a lot less than other cruise lines on their private islands! And we had some friends with us and we split the cost so it was only $125 per couple. This is definitely the way to go!!

The island is beautiful and well laid out. There are several beaches to choose from and the further away you get from the ship, the less crowded they become. For food, there is one large buffet at the center of the island but also many food trucks serving burgers, hotdogs and fries all over. So this was the best option for us on North Beach. For drinks, the bars are plentiful! And if you have a drink package, it does extend to the island.

Around 5 pm, most of the island shuts down and only the beach near the ship and the lighthouse is open, along with the Lighthouse Bar. This will stay open until the all aboard is called for the ship. We enjoyed this area as well as swimming right next to the ship is a pretty cool experience. And most everyone had gotten back on board so it was not busy at all.
We got back on the ship for dinner at Ocean Cay (yes the specialty dining seafood restaurant onboard carries the same name as the island) and then back off for the 8:15 lighthouse show. It was really cool and unique to a private island. I have seen the projections at Disney, etc, but not even at Castaway Cay. In between lighthouse shows in a beach party... if you are so inclined. We were wiped out from being in the sun all day so called it a night. We definitely enjoyed our day here!

Discover the Islands of the Bahamas

The Hidden Gems of the Bahamas We are Exploring the Berry Islands.

Hello everyone on today episode we are going to show you one of the Hidden GEMS of the Bahamas We are Exploring the Berry Islands. When we last left you, we were on our way to the Berry Islands as the sun was setting. Let’s pause for just a moment and enjoy this breathtaking sunset. On today’s episode we are going to tell you about the good

Welcome to our Channel NO TOPS ATOLL My wife and I have had a lifelong dream of cruising the Caribbean we fell in love with this stunning Regal 4260 that has fallen into a state of disrepair. Follow us on our adventure as we restore this boat and fulfill our life long dream of cruising the Caribbean.
Our day started out this little guy joining us. Whether he was good luck or just knew we were about to catch fish and he was going to get fed I don’t know but it wasn’t long until he was well fed.

My grandfather was a great outdoorsman who was known for his success in fishing and in hunting. I however have not been that successful. On our trip we decided to bring along a couple poles and if we catch something great if not well, we have food in the freezer. Today we caught enough food for the next three days.

A wise boater once said, somethings is broken on your boat, you may not just be aware of it yet. And today that was our story. Our journey from Bimini to Berry’s was around 97 miles and we had planned for it to take 12 hours. We had a new Garmin Autopilot and Radar installed before we left Ft Lauderdale. We planned on the Autopilot reducing our workload. Unfortunately, our Garmin autopilot short circuited. So, the reason Natalia looks so tired is she helped share the over 10 hours of driving the boat with no autopilot.

In everything in life there is good and Bad, Great Harbor Cay Marina is one of those. We will tell you more later in the story, but for now we decided to get a slip and start working with Garmin technical support.

You’ve heard the expression of Island time when you are in the Berry Island there is not a lot of supplies, but the people are amazing. If you will just tell them what you need, they will do everything in their power to help you. In working with Garmin Technical support, I needed some 10-gage wire. Well One of the locals said he would be back at 5 with it. So, we decided to go exploring the island on our scooters. The views are breathtaking the people are amazing, and don’t take this as a criticism as remote as it is I’m amazed they have roads at all, and I’ve been to parts of the US with much less hurtles to overcome that had worse roads. But one too many potholes and finally Natalia’s luck ran out.

The staff at the local clinic took great care of her, helping reassure us that she didn’t have a broken ankle.
But I want to really brag about the Staff if Great Harbor Marina, the Dock Master came to rescue us even though we were on the opposite side of the Island and take us to the clinic and then come pick us up and take us back to our boat. I can’t say enough good thinks about them.

I didn’t take long for Natalia to get restless and even though the doctor said rest, take it easy keep your leg elevated her energetic nature would let her sit still and so she stared pestering me to take her on a dinghy ride. So, we went out for a stunning evening ride through the harbor and the inlet.

As nighttime approached, we headed back so we could prepare for our crossing to Nassau in the morning so we could repair the boat and continue our journey.

With full gas tanks and batterys fully charged but operating on a single alternator, greatly diminished electrical safety equipement we prepared for the quick jurney over to Nassau to get the boat repaired. As always we would like to thank our pation supporters, and please like a subscribe. We look forward to seeing you on our next adventure in Nassau.

Follow our boat restoration, as we bring our Regal Commodore 4260 back to life, follow our Caribbean cruising as we enjoy the Caribbean Boating life.

We greatly appreciate your support.
