Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal - THE HIGH PASS

Annapurna Circuit trek in central Nepal climbs to an altitude of 5,400m through Thorung La pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world, below peaks that rise 6000-8000m in elevation from the Annapurna Range. We attempted to complete the trek in about 15 days starting mid-December of 2013, when the shoulder season promised much smaller crowds but with it a risk of deep snow that early winter can bring to the Pass.

Death on the Annapurna Circuit | How 43 people died on the Throng La Pass

On 14 October 2014, a snowstorm and series of avalanches occurred on and around the Annapurna Mountain range. According to an expert the storm arose from Cyclone Hudhud and was the worst in a decade with almost 1.8 metres (5 ft 11 in) of snow falling within 12 hours.

This is the story about the tragic death of 43 climbers on the Annapurna Circuit Trek: Disaster on the Throng La Pass!

The storm caused power outages and resulted in one of the deadliest days ever on the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Over a short period of time, 43 people died from the storm while crossing the Throng La Pass - the highest point on the trek.

This video describes the events of October 14, 2014 and how a cyclone led to the death of 43 people, as well as countless others being injured while on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Trekking the Annapurna Circuit - Nepal 2019

In September of 2019, a few friends and I trekked 150 miles through the Himalayas of Nepal on a route called the Annapurna Circuit. The path circles the 8000m+ Annapurna Massif and crosses the world's highest navigable pass, Thorong La Pass.

Annapurna Circuit Trek- Manang-Mustang through Thorang La Pass, Tilicho lake and so much more

On October of 2017, Heema and Dewan trekked to one of most famous and the best trekking circuit trails of Nepal, the Annapurna Circuit which covers almost all of the current hotcake travel destinations in Nepal. Some of them being the Tilicho lake, highest lake in the world by its size; Bragha, the ancient village; Thorang La Pass, every trekkers dream Pass, Muktinath, Mustang and so many more.

Almost all of the footage were shot with Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge. If you are planning to do this trek, make sure to watch it, we've also attempted to make it as informative as possible and there's some fun parts too.

The cost for this specific travel was around 1500 rupees per day on average for the two of us. So, roughly 700-800 per day (can reach upto 1000 as well). Because of the road access these days, the cost have gone down a bit. The whole trip expense for us was around 28k (excluding the plane ticket fare which was 9000). So, roughly 15-20k would be good enough to cover the Manang and the Upper Mustang (upto Chhoser/Chhosar).

We are always looking for places that aren't famous or explored enough, but are lacking exposure and promotion. If you know of any such places or your village/hometown has such locations, do let us know. We'll be more than happy to visit and collaborate with you to promote such destinations.

You can email us at ghumantenepal@gmail.com or inbox in our facebook page directly.

Annapurna Circuit: Crossing Thorang la 17,700 ft (Ep 07: The High pass)

Start: Thorang Phedi (4450 m)
End: Muktinath (3800 m)
Date: 21st Oct 2019
Distance covered: 17 km
The day when I cross the mighty Thorang La (5400 m)

I couldn't sleep the previous night because Kajol (trek mate) was suffering from a mild headache. She didn't eat well and had vomiting sensations too. I tried my best to check on her after every 2 hours at night. We finally got out of the room at 07:30 am but I had dropped the idea of hiking up to the pass. I was planning to stay back for a day and do the trek the next day after her recovery. I went to bed again and at around 08:00 am she asked me to go alone if I want to since she knew that I have to do the Annapurna base camp trek and the Mardi Himal base camp trek just after the Annapurna circuit.

She seemed very confident to me and after talking to the hotel owner we decided that it will be completely fine for Kajol to stay back and she could hike up the next day.

I was pretty confused as it was too late for me to start, all the people left Thorang phedi as late as 06:00 am in the morning, which meant that I would hardly see a soul till the pass. I gave it a thought, asked Kajol twice about the decision and then I left Thorang Phedi at 08:00 am.

The weather was very clear. It was bright and sunny. I could not see any cloud near the sun nor on top of the high mountains. The pass was at a distance of 5 Km from Thorang Phedi. I started hiking up planning to do the pass without any breaks. I reached the high camp in less than 50 minutes and I was constantly looking up at the sky. The sun should keep shining, because if the clouds cover the sun and they sink it then becomes really cold at high altitudes and a situation of a whiteout may further slow you down.

I was vlogging and clicking pictures from the point of view of the video log that I am going to post on YouTube soon. I did not stay at the High camp and I was really happy to see lots of snow. It was the second time that I could walk on the trail covered with snow. The altitude was rising and you could feel that the air was getting thinner but it was all fun as it was only me and the trail and no one else.

The moment you cross the High camp (4850 m) you see an array of mountain peaks namely; Mount Chulu and other peaks from the massif, Jinang, Purpung Himal and many more. I was blessed with a clear weather and I was able to see the peaks without a cloud covering their peaks.

I was trying to walk at a slow and steady pace so as to conserve energy since I had to skip breakfast. To my utter surprise I met Ron Brabson, a 64 year old man from the States cycling up the classic Annapurna circuit. We had met on Day 02 in the guest house in Timang village. I sat near him for 10-15 minutes, shared few words and then started walking ahead after wishing him good luck. He is the person who inspired me the most on the whole circuit. I wish to do the Annapurna circuit again on a cycle.

There is one more point over the High camp way before the Thorang la where you could stop for a small break. I was glad to meet Julien from Britain and another guy from Poland who was returning back after climbing the Chulu peak (6059 m) expedition. This is what I liked about the circuit, you get to meet so many people from across the globe. You get inspire and at times you inspire others to do things you love the most.

After hiking for 3 hours and 30 minutes I was finally standing strong at Thorang La (5400 m). I was fit as a fiddle and after clicking a couple of pictures I started the steep descend towards Muktinath. I was genuinely missing Kajol at the pass and I prayed that she gets through the pass without any problems.

There is a small tea shop near the pass where you can drink some hot tea to keep your body warm.

The descend to Muktinath (3800 m) is easy but it is too long and tiring. I would recommend carrying trekking poles with you, they will be really helpful on this section of the trail. There will be no shops or tea houses on this descend until Charabu (4230 m) which houses 3-4 guest houses. If you reach here little late then you can even stay here or if you are really early then you can take a lunch break and start off for Muktinath.

I was both happy and sad after reaching Muktinath. I was sad because the trek came to an end and I was happy because I got to go to the Annapurna base camp trek after this where I could see the mighty Annapurna (8091 m) from up close.

I skipped the Muktinath to Tatopani section (80 km on road). I took a bus from Muktinath that dropped me at Tatopani and I started my trek to the Poon Hill, the Annapurna base camp, Machapuchare base camp and the Mardi Himal base camp one after the other.

The Annapurna Circuit is an amazing trail, but two thirds of the way through (assuming you're walking to Pokhara) comes the crown jewel Thorung La pass ... the High Pass. This 5416 meter pass lets you look back at the mountains you've been hiking through for the last two weeks and forward to the grassy mountains of your future. A true finally to an amazing journey. Best of Trekking the Annapurna Circuit, Nepal | 4K Cinematic Trip Experience

Trekking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is an incredible experience that takes you through a diverse range of landscapes, from lush subtropical forests to high-altitude deserts. The trek starts in the small bustling city of Besisahar which then follows the Annapurna Himalayan mountain range to Throng La Pass. It took us 9 days to get to Muktinath, Nepal, which we then called it quits and hired a jeep to take us back to Pokhara. As you will see it is filled with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, including the magnificent Annapurna Massif, which towers over 8,000 meters above sea level. Along the way, we encounter small traditional Nepalese villages, meet friendly locals and trekkers in tea houses, and immerse ourselves in their culture. The Annapurna Circuit is a challenging yet rewarding experience that left a lasting impression on both of us.

Trekking the ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT in Nepal, November 2019

In November 2019 Nick and I set out to hike the Annapurna Circuit. The highest part of this trek is Thorong La Pass, at 5416m high. After crossing the pass we decided to extend our hike by including Annapurna Base Camp.

We started our hike in the lowlands at Beshisahar. We included side hikes to Ice Lake, Dhaulagiri Icefall and Poon Hill. From Larjung we jumped on a bus to Tatopani and from there we hiked to Annapurna Base Camp.

We hiked over 310km (196miles) and we took 24 days to complete it all. If you like the video give me thumbs up and hit that subscribe button to get all the latest videos.

Nick and I hiked the Annapurnas independently without a guide or porter. To see a packing list with everything we took visit:
