Tuscany's Dolce Vita

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2006 | Tuscany offers a dolce vita mix of hearty cuisine, fascinating history, and gentle beauty. First we'll learn about the original Tuscans — the ancient Etruscans — at Volterra's Etruscan Museum, then we'll tour a hill town that was important to both the Etruscans and the Romans, head into the woods for a truffle hunt, eat slow food Italian-style during Sunday lunch in Chiusure, and finish in Montepulciano, where we'll get passionate about the local wine. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #tuscany

Florentine Delights and Tuscan Side-Trips

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2012 | In this second of two episodes on Florence, we'll enjoy more of the exquisite artistic treasures of the city that propelled Europe out of the Middle Ages. Then we'll side-trip to a couple of rival cities and cultural capitals in their own right, Pisa and Lucca, where we'll marvel at a tipsy tower, circle a city on its ramparts, and enjoy some Puccini in his hometown. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #tuscany

Dream of Italy: Full Tuscany Episode

The first episode of Dream of Italy (new PBS travel series) starts in the heart of Tuscany – Chianti – with a visit to Castello di Ama to learn how true Chianti Classico wine is produced and see the modern art that makes up the estate. The area is also famous for olive oil and we visit Pornanino to take part in the olive harvest. Nearby host Kathy McCabe meets the very special cashmere goats that Nora Kravis raises at Chianti Cashmere Farm. Then it is off to Panzano for a wild boar hunt with the La Squadra Chiantigiana and a visit with philosophical butcher Dario Cecchini. At Busatti in Anghiari, we watch 100-year-old looms craft fine fabrics. The episode ends on the captivating coast of Tuscany in Maremma with a stunning ride with the butteri (cowboys). Special thanks to our underwriters: Viator, Ama Waterways and Perillo Tours. For more information, visit

Assisi and Italian Country Charm

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2016 | In the Italian countryside, we'll connect with rustic, traditional culture: enjoying an agriturismo (farmhouse inn), seeing how prosciutto and pecorino cheese are made, and hiking to the bottom of deep and ancient wine cellars. We'll end in Assisi — the hometown of St. Francis — which retains its spiritual aura to this day. Like pilgrims, we'll explore its stony center before trekking to its awe-inspiring basilica, built on the tomb of the beloved saint. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #assisi

Breathtaking Tuscany: A Poetic Ode to Italy's Heartland

I spent a month road tripping around Tuscany, Italy a few years ago and it was one of my favorite road trips ever! This short video pays homage to Tuscany, one of the most remarkable places in the world. If you have any questions about visiting Tuscany, leave a comment below. If you would like to see my road trip guide to Tuscany, visit:

Oh, Tuscany, my love, your beauty enchants and inspires, with each sun-kissed hill and vine-laden valley.

Your ancient villages whisper secrets of the past, cobblestone paths leading to tales of yesteryear.

Masterpieces abound, your walls adorned with the legacies of da Vinci, Botticelli, and Michelangelo, who once graced your land.

Your elixir, a testament to your heritage – fine wine that dances on the tongue, a celebration of life in every sip.

Your heart is in your food, a symphony of flavors, conjured from the simplest, freshest ingredients, an expression of amore in every bite.

Aged to perfection, your vinegar and olive oil - treasures of the earth, a harmony of sweet and savory, velvety smooth and intoxicatingly fragrant.

Your embrace extends to the sea, pristine shores where azure waves sigh against the sand, a moment of serenity under the Tuscan sun.

In your arms, I find respite, as I slumber in history's embrace – be it a villa, an agriturismo, or a castle, each whispering sweet dreams of your timeless charm.

Oh, Tuscany, my love, you are a dream, a muse, a melody forever etched in my heart – I long for the day when I return to your embrace, and fall in love once more.

???????? Siena: The Heart and Soul of Tuscany - walking tour April 4K HDR 60FPS Italy

Today, we will take a stroll through the winding medieval alleys of the hilltop city of Siena and visit its most renowned landmarks, the Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena) and the Piazza del Campo.

When walking in Siena, it is important to pay attention to the routes you take because it is a hilly city. There are some streets in the center and surrounding areas that involve steep uphill climbs. Avoiding these routes can save a lot of physical effort.

Siena, The Medieval City in the Heart of Tuscany, Italy

Siena is a city in central Italy, about 48 km south of Florence and the capital of the Province of Siena. Siena is located in the heart of Tuscany, surrounded by gentle hills.
Throughout the centuries, Siena preserved the city's Gothic appearance, acquired in medieval times and therefore, its historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The fortified wall still surrounds the historic centre with tower houses, palaces, churches which survived and kept their initial Gothic elements. The three major streets of the city, forming a Y-shape, lead to the Piazza del Campo, where proudly stands the city’s Hall, a major symbol of the city, built between 1297 and 1310 with brickwork and with white elements in marble. Siena’s black and white marble cathedral was designed and completed between 1215 and 1263 on the site of an earlier structure. Siena is an outstanding medieval city that has preserved its architecture and town planning since the Middle Ages.
A major banking center in medieval Europe, Siena is the home to the oldest bank in the world, the Monte dei Paschi Bank, which was opened in 1472.
