Unleashing the Potential of Women Entrepreneurs Through Finance and Markets
Starting and growing a business is one of the most powerful tools for women to build a better future for themselves and their communities. Yet, in most countries, women face legal, financial, and market barriers that stifle their entrepreneurial success. IFC estimates there is a $1.5 trillion annual credit deficit for women-owned small and medium enterprises. Join us as we explore ways that the private sector can create financial and market opportunities for women entrepreneurs. The event will highlight innovative partnerships such as the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) and the Women Entrepreneurs Opportunity Facility (WEOF), and will feature rising women entrepreneurs from emerging markets.
The Favela Entrepreneur ????????
■ BRAZIL, RIO DE JANEIRO: I've always preferred markets and street food over restaurants and modern shopping malls. The price is better, you're outside and you get served instantly without a wait. But what does it take to operate as a street vendor? Who are the entrepreneurs who go through the hassle of having to wheel a business into the desired location day after day, year after year? And what is it like to be an entrepreneur in a bureaucratic mess of a country like Brazil where there are more rules, laws and regulations on the books than citizens?
A couple of days ago I was introduced to Oberdan Santos by a mutual friend of ours. Mr Santos is an entrepreneur, father and volunteer at his local church, who a little under two years ago, left his hometown of Manaus to live in one of Rio De Janeiro's many favelas looking to improve his plight and job opportunities.
He started selling food and candy for established street vendors as he had done back in his hometown Manaus but quickly excelled to the point where he decided to start for himself selling Acai, an ice-cream type of snack popular where he was born.
As soon as he told his story I asked if I could tag along the following day to document his daily life as an entrepreneur on one of Rio's most famous beaches: Leblond.
This video shows everything that transpired on said day....

???????? Are Favelas SAFE for Tourists? Tips for Exploring the Slums!
I am by no means an expert of all Brazil's favelas, but after 3 weeks of exploring 5 favelas as a tourist during the day and night I put together a list of dos and don'ts.
My most memorable moments in Brazil has been making new friends in the favelas, many of the videos you can find here on my channel.
Add Henry on Instagram @experience.rio and I can be found at
???????? Brazil’s FIRST Favela - Morro de Providência!
Morro da Providência is a favela located between the two Rio de Janeiro districts of Santo Cristo and Gamboa. It has an altitude of 115 metres and is located in the port area of the city. It is widely considered to be the first favela community in Brazil.
In 1897, victorious veterans of the Canudos War who were promised land in the old capital upon their return found that such promises were not kept. In frustration and desperation, the soldiers invaded the hill scrub land close to the (then) Ministry of War. The hill was initially named Morro da Favela after the favela plant which is indigenous to the region where the soldiers fought against the Canudos settlers in the eastern province of Bahia.
In the early 20th century, freed African slaves joined the soldiers and were joined by new European migrants as well, because it was the only affordable place to live in near their work in the city's centre and port.
To this day, Providência lacks a proper municipal water supply and the residents rely on a network of pipes that illegally siphon off some of the city’s water. Only a few of the 5,000 or so families who live in the area are connected to a sewage system.
*When planning to visit a favela in Brazil please use extreme caution. I do edit out all of the gang related activity that I witness. Guns and drugs are visible in all favelas and it’s not the perfect place to visit if you’re an inexperienced traveller or with your family. I am concerned that I am making these videos look like a walk in the park, when they can be very dangerous without the right guide or on the wrong day. Thank you for watching!

Motorbike ride through a favela in Rio, Brazil
Start filming now said the ex-drugsdealer/my guide at the top of the hill in a favela. I had no idea where we were going, but did as instructed.
Guide Fabio takes Esther Jacobs on an adrenaline filled ride down stairs, through the narrow streets of a favela near complexo Allemao. You don't see them in the video, but I saw many kids under ten carrying huge automatic weapons and guns.
Fabio supports a charity that provides role models and distraction to help these street children, to keep them out of the drugs world.
Want to help and try an adventurous tour, too?
Thanks for watching! Please let me know what you think in the comments.
Who’s that girl?
Esther Jacobs (The Netherlands, 1970) is an international (TEDx) speaker and author. She gave more than 1000 keynotes, inspiring entrepreneurs and decision makers of organizations like Capgemini, KLM, Philips and universities on 5 continents to transform their challenges into opportunities. Esther published and contributed to 16 books and helped over 50 entrepreneurs write theirs.
“Opportunity often comes disguised as misfortune or temporary defeat.” – Napoleon Hill
As a pioneer and entrepreneur Esther became an expert in getting results with limited resources. The “No Excuses Lady” proves that you can turn even the bleakest situation into an opportunity:
• Raised $25 million for charities without a budget, network or experience. Got knighted by the Dutch Queen.
• Survived a reality TV show on a deserted island.
• Turned her relationship with a playboy into a bestselling book: ‘Have you found your Mr. Wrong yet?‘
• Got ‘fired’ from her country for traveling too much; became a digital nomad, living and working in 100+ countries. The very government that expelled her, is now consulting her on how to solve this issue for future mobile generations.

Decided to walk around Medellin after my gym session. A lot of people ask me if Colombia is safe and how is it walking at night. Here is a glimpse at one area that contains clubs and restaurants, located right by a park. I haven't visited this area too often but decided to pass by it on the way home.

HOW TO STAY SAFE IN BRAZIL
HOW TO STAY SAFE IN BRAZIL – in today’s episode, I talk about Brazil and staying safe when travelling in South America’s beautiful country. A couple of weeks before posting this video, a British family were on holiday in Rio de Janeiro and took a wrong turn into a favela with their hire car. They were shot at and the women in the passenger seat was injured. It’s very important to be alert while here in Brazil and take a few common-sense safety precautions…

10 Days in #BRASIL -DAY #2 - #RIODeJANEIRO -TRAVEL - #STREET #ART - LAPA DISTRICT
Thank you for Watching Naturalleadersmedia.com __SUBSCRIBE TODAY --- SUBSCRIBE TODAY. Want to stay updated with Great content?
10 days in #Brasil Day #2. In this #video of day two I was taken on a tour set up by @JanaGuinond & Giovanni Harvey. We toured #Centro Rio de Janeiro. We drove from #Copacabana Rio past #Sugarloaf Mountain. The sights were breath taking seeing a mixture of Mountains beaches and street #Art. Paulo who was the translator gave me a history lesson regarding #slavery, Brasil’s politics, #Samba and so much more. We walked the streets of Centro towards a Historic Landmark…The Valongo Wharf is an old dock located in the port area of Centro #RiodeJaneiro. Built in 1811, it was the site of landing and trading of enslaved #Africans until 1831, with the blockade of Africa banning the Atlantic slave trade to Brazil. During the twenty years of its operation, between 500 thousand and one million slaves landed at Valongo. Brazil received about 4.9 million slaves through the #Trans-AtlanticSlave trade.
Next stop was #OlympicBoulevard where the street art was soo vibrant and alive. The details and the size of the murals was truly unbelievable. #StreetArt
Eduardo Kobra’s @Kobrastreetart breathtaking mural titled Etnias, a 32,300-square-foot graffiti wall that goes beyond what is considered street art. The world’s largest graffiti wall blows the eyes of the visitor, not only because of its size, but also because of its vibrant colors and impressive sense of proportion.
The work portrays a Mursi woman from Ethiopia, a Kayin woman from Thailand, a Native Brazilian, a Supi man from Northern Europe, and a Huli man from Papua New Guinea.
Next stop was right on time because everyone was hungry and ready for some good food or #Gastronomy We pulled up or walked up to G & G Gourmet Black & Woman owned and operated. GG is a good friend of Jana and we all enjoyed a nutritious meal.
Next stop some samba history at Casa do Nando @acasadonando another Black owned business. This multi purpose #venue hosts bands, musicians, artist, visual artist, serves food and drinks. Vendors also set up during events. Great space got my samba on…
Last stop was the Lapa favela. In the evening this is a hot spot to hang out and enjoy food music and some good spirits.
