The Dreamfinders (Official Documentary)

x

Dreamfinders - Director Jeff Blyth

From the mountains of China, to the plains of Kenya and even Moscow’s Red Square, filmmaker Jeff Blyth has focused his camera on all sorts of wonders of the world. Well…more like cameras... nine to be exact.

Throughout his career, Blythe has directed six circle-vision films for Disney, including Portraits of Canada, Wonders of China, The Timekeeper, and Reflections of China. But that's just scratching the surface as Jeff chats with Nathan about the technical struggles of shooting a full 360 degree image for Circle Vision, his time in Africa filming the Disney feature “Cheetah” and how you can find his work in both The Shining and Blade Runner.

As a very special treat, Jeff has also worked with Nathan on a director's commentary track for WDWNT's 360° presentation of his EPCOT film Reflections of China. Be sure to check that out!

Dreamfinders - David Koenig

In 1994, David Koenig authored the book Mouse Tales - the first unauthorized account of the history and culture of Disneyland. With it, he ignited a whole generation of fans, who were just as curious as he was about what was happening behind the scenes at the happiest place on Earth. From there, David wrote several books on different aspects of Disneyland, one on Disney Animation and another on Disney World - all parting the curtain in ways Disney would never do themselves.

David sits down with Nathan to talk Disney’s official reaction to Mouse Tales, his newest book on Disneyland’s original 1955 cast members, and that time former President of the Walt Disney Company Card Walker called him up on the phone.

Keep up with David and his newest book at bonadventurepress.com or find his books on Amazon.com.

Mark chats with Nathan about working with Jim Henson on Muppet Vision-3D, casting the voice of Rex for Star Tours, and working on one of the most beloved Universal Studio shows of all time - Terminator 2: 3D.

Whether for television, film, or theme parks, Kirk Hanson has used a pencil and a little ingenuity to create some of the most beloved stories of our time. As a story artist for Disney Feature animation, Kirk helped bring to life Aladdin, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hercules. He’s also found himself over at Imagineering fleshing out ideas for Pirates of the Caribbean and Monster Inc: Ride and Go Seek.

Dreamfinders - Kevin Rafferty

Kevin Rafferty started his Disney career at the bottom washing dishes at the Plaza Inn, but before too long he found himself over at WED assisting the first generation of Imagineers. But Kevin was eager to make his own mark and eventually, as a show writer and developer for Imagineering himself, he would certainly do that.

Love the Tower of Terror? That was his idea. Not only that, but Kevin would, over a 40 year career with Disney, go on to write and develop such iconic wonders as Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Test Track, Toy Story Midway Mania, It’s Tough to Be A Bug, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Rockin Roller Coaster and that’s just to name a few.

Kevin sits down Nathan to talk about his new autobiography - Magic Journey: My Fantastical Walt Disney Imagineering Career. They also discuss tons of attractions he pitched that never saw the light of day, that time he pulled off a heist to save Disney history with the voice of Mickey Mouse himself Jimmy McDonald, and how he ended up pitching Carsland before he even knew Pixar was making a film about cars.

Kevin's new autobiography Magic Journey is available all books are sold including Amazon, Disney, and Books-a-Million.

Dreamfinders - Tom K Morris

Tom K Morris, like many kids in the 70’s, saved up his money from a paper route. Unlike everyone else, he took that money and went to the opening of Disney World - by himself. That determination would serve Tom through the years as he joined Imagineering and found himself working on all sorts of memorable projects.

Tom chats with Nathan about helping legends like Claude Coats and Marc Davis design World of Motion, creating the layout for Journey Into Imagination, and taking on one of the most important projects any Imagineer could - an actual Disney castle.

You can keep up with Tom on his twitter - @tomkmorris.

Dreamfinders - Trader Brandon

Brandon Kleyla, better know as Trader Brandon to fellow tiki lovers and friends, has always been obsessed with the intricacies of pop-culture and, over time, he’s become a part of it himself.

From acting on Nickelodeon shows at Universal Studios Florida as a kid to creating a feature documentary on Indiana Jones fan culture, Brandon’s career has more twists and turns than a pulp adventure novel. Eventually, it all lead him to Disney Imagineering where he became one of the main creative forces behind both Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Grog Grotto as well as set decorator for such places as Pandora: the World of Avatar.

A unique episode, host Nathan Hartman was arranging to interview Brandon around the time the quarantine began and, since he was having people on his Instagram feed to chat anyway, he invited Nathan on to interview him live. So fair warning, the audio is a little different this time around, but well worth your time.

Brandon chats with Nathan about his time as a Jungle Cruise Skipper, what it’s like working with Joe Rhode, and they deep dive into all things Indiana Jones.
