The Cost Of Living In South East Asia For 7 Months

SOUTH EAST ASIA COST OF LIVING | Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia & Philippines Travel | Digital Nomad

Cost of living in South East Asia! We compare Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia & Philippines expenses for digital nomads... ✈ Want to travel full-time? Here's how —

South East Asia is obviously larger than Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia & the Philippines, but we've spent extensive time in all 4 of these spots as digital nomads, so we're educated enough to be able to share some costs and expenses with you.

Specifically, today we'll be comparing Chiang Mai in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia, Hoi An in Vietnam and Boracay in the Philippines. All of these spots are very different and obviously this is our first hand experience, but hopefully our travel vlogs and cost comparisons are able to highlight some useful details for you.

Chiang Mai is one of our favourite places in the world, not just in Thailand. Incredibly low living costs so we recommend you start your digital nomad journey there (or in Thailand) because it's so easy to get apartments, the food is amazing, the culture is beautiful and it's just so simple to settle in.

Hoi An is the highlight of Vietnam, in our minds at least, however it is a bit tricky to get established and settle there because of the lack of supermarkets. It's a great way of life though, beautiful place, costs are low and there are plenty of other digital nomads there to hang out with.

Cost of living in Bali can be cheap, but it's often more expensive than people think - especially compared to the rest of Indonesia. So how cost effective is Canggu really to live or base as a digital nomad? That really depends on how you plan to live, our vlogs show a few times we've visited and each with very different styles of living. Be sure to check those travel vlogs to see what you think.

Boracay in the Philippines is heaven on earth, probably even more so now after the recent closure. It's open again now and hopefully a few of the issues with transport, roads, hustle and waste have been fixed! Because of that isolation from the main land (Philippines is over 7,000 islands though!) it can be more expensive than other spots, the internet in the Philippines ins't flash and for that reason alone there's not to many other digital nomads.

Cheapest Asian Countries To Live In - Cheap South East Asia & Southeast Asia Cost

Cheapest place to live in Southeast Asia: Have you ever wondered what is the cheapest place to live in southeast Asia? As you may be aware, South East Asia, in general, is a cheap continent, and this is one of its appeals to many international travelers, but out of all of the countries which country is the cheapest in South East Asia and on average how much does it cost to live in South East Asia?

In total, South East Asia is made up of 11 countries. In today’s article, we will be exploring eight of the 11 countries that make up South East Asia. This is because some areas have very little/ inaccurate data, and in addition, some countries are not as popular in tourism compared to others.

The estimates below are based on a single traveler living in a popular city in the country (excluding capital cities). The below prices are based on South East Asia’s most significant living expenses: rental, food, and transportation costs.

Additionally, the data from today’s article excludes any living expenses that are not mandatory but does include everyday living expenses such as visa expenses and health insurance.

We focused on these subcategories to ensure data information is as fair and accurate as possible. Nonetheless, depending on your lifestyle, you may find prices to be slightly cheaper or more expensive.

To summarise, today’s article is based on the most significant expenses you will need to pay when living in South East Asia. Every consideration has been taken into account to ensure as accurate information as possible, but lifestyles may alter personal living expenses.

Singapore is the second most expensive city in the world (after New York City), so if you’re moving to Singapore 2024, this video will reveal some of what to (possibly) expect in 2024. Tips For Living Cheaper In South East Asia [11 Tips & Tricks] - Live In Asia Cheap And Save Money.

Here are my tips for living cheaper in Southeast Asia. As we have covered the cheapest countries in Southeast Asia previously it's about time we explored Asia a little more closer by focusing on tips for living cheaper in Southeast Asia. Happily, there are many ways to live cheaper in Southeast Asia. Here are the 11 best and most effective ways.

--

--

Shop with Lazada. Lazada is the Amazon of Asia. Many high-quality items can be found on the Lazada platform for a very affordable rate.
Live slightly outside of the city. If possible, living in an area slightly outside of the metropolitan areas is often 12%-25% cheaper than downtown areas.

Eat the local cuisine. Western food is highly accessible across Southeast Asia, but eating a local diet helps you save your money if you retire in Asia.
Fly during low season. The majority of countries in Southeast Asia have a heavy tourism industry which can increase prices during the high season. Hence, it’s best to travel during the low season to save money while living in Asia.

Cut back on alcohol. In some countries, alcohol can be purchased at an affordable rate; however, some countries have seen alcohol prices rise steeply over many years.

Exercise to save some extra retirement cash. Gyms are highly accessible in many areas and cities, popular with retirees; however, there are cheaper exercise options.

Try more public transportation. One of the benefits of retiring in Southeast Asia as a foreigner is how low-cost public transit can be.

Aim to rent long term. If you decide to retire in Asia as a foreigner long-term, then long-term rentals of a property will often save you many thousands of Dollars, Euros, Pounds, etc., annually.

Fly during midweek if possible. If you are retiring in Asia and are planning your flight, figures show that flying to Asia or within Asia is statistically cheaper during the middle of the week.

Consider insurance. Depending on the country you are retiring in, some areas can be expensive for hospital treatment, and thus insurance is often a wise investment

Choose the correct location. When looking at the cheapest countries to retire in Asia, you will find that many countries have a high-quality city that is also inexpensive. For example, Chiang Mai in Thailand. Cheapest country to retire in Asia.

Cheapest Travel Countries in Southeast Asia

In this video, we describe the cheapest countries in southeast asia that you can travel to for vacation or an adventure. If an affordable location is important to you, as well as being in the safest country, this list should help you out!

First up is Thailand - this country is becoming more well known and more expensive, but it's still cheaper than America and you get access to really cool stuff for a good price, but it's the most costly on our list.

Next, the Philippines, are just amazing. We could spend a year here and not complain. We honestly don't have anything bad to say, other than the fact that Jimmy got dengue fever, which was not fun.

Vietnam is becoming more and more special as it attempts to attract more tourists. We would recommend Vietnam if you are looking for an adventure rather than luxury and want to save as much money as possible - it is the most inexpensive on our list and we loved it.

Cambodia attracts a ton of people each year for Angkor Wat, and we definitely recommend going to see it, as it's a wonder of the world, however, the rest of the country has plenty to offer!

Last but not least, Bali is our favorite destination in southeast asia for so many reasons - check out our other videos to see why.

All of the cost of living index numbers given in this video are compared to New York City being a value of 100!

My 7 Favorite Countries in Asia (#1 Continent)

Asia has been my home since 2013 when I moved to South Korea to teach English. Over the last 8 years, I've lived in Vietnam, the Philippines and currently Thailand -- and I've been to every country on the beautiful continent of Asia.

Each culture in Asia is very unique -- from religions to traditions, nature, history, cuisines and rituals -- and it provides endless opportunities to learn and discover. But above anything else, THE PEOPLE of Asia are the most hospitable and welcoming as they come.

Admittedly, it has been very hard to choose only 7 of my favorite Asian countries to feature in this video (because I truly love every place for a different reason) -- but when it all comes down to it, these would be my 7 favorite countries on this amazing place called Asia!

THE PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, SINGAPORE, VIETNAM, NEPAL, INDONESIA, JAPAN

What would be your top 7 in Asia? Why? Please comment below and let's get the discussion started!

PS - I kept this video limited to East/South/Southeast Asian countries. While the Middle East and West/Central Asia are technically Asian countries, I consider them very culturally different. Iran and Tajikistan would be on this list if it was all of Asia!
