The City of Isfahan
Isfahan is an incredible city rich with art, history, architecture and beauty. The fact that it’s not a commonly traveled tourist destination is logical to me. However, it really saddens me that many people will never see what this city has to offer. To make matters worse, there aren’t enough unique videos or pictures coming out to at least give a glimpse into this ancient modernized city.
My trip was roughly 3 weeks long. In between seeing family and friends I tried to squeeze in time to take as many photos as I possibly could to hopefully create something that most of you have never seen. There were some of the places I had to get special access to which took a bit of time. Some of the spots were off limits so a bit of bribing came into play. I wanted to make something that would even give the people of Esfahan a different look into their own city. Given I’m not a professional and the time I had to play with, it’s nowhere near perfect. There are countless places I did not get a chance to capture and made a lot of errors along the way.
Regardless, I’m still very proud with the end result and hope to have inspired some of you to travel there some day. Everything you are about to see is either a hyperlapse or a timelapse meaning they’re all pictures turned into film!

The city of Isfahan was twice the capital of Persia. Isfahan flourished most under the Safavid dynasty from the 16th to the 18th century when its finest monuments were created. Isfahan is one of the most important architectural centers in the Islamic world. There are 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Isfahan: Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Masjed-e Jame, and The Persian Garden (represented in Isfahan by Chehel Sotoun).

ISFAHAN, IRAN
1. PEDARKHAN: Ab Goosht + Beryan
SOCIAL MEDIA: @pedarkhan_esf
AB GOOSHT (veal/lamb stew): Broth: Cut the windpipe of the lamb. Cut veal leg and lamb leg. Put in a pressure cooker with the sheep fat, sheep bone and two onions. Boil for 30 minutes. Put fresh water in the pot. Add lungs to pressure cooker. Cook for 2 hours. Grind veal and lamb and season with ginger powder, salt and chopped mint. Dish: In a bowl, add pieces of torn sangak bread. Pour in broth and allow the bread to soak. Pour out broth and drizzle the fat on top. Add kashk (sour yogurt) and drizzle more fat on top. Add chopped mint, cinnamon, a slice of tomato, pickled cauliflower and minced lung meat into the bowl. Top with sesame seeds, saffron (sauce/water) and almonds
BERYAN (bread with minced meats): On a grill, mix minced veal and lamb with chopped mint and saffron. In a giant spoon/mini skillet, add cinnamon and sesame seeds. Scoop the mixed veal and lamb and put it into the giant spoons/mini skillets and cook over fire. While this is cooking, take a piece of sangak and drizzle fat on it. Put a scoop of lung meat on the bread. Add green pepper, half a boiled tomato and yellow pickled cauliflower. Add the cooked veal/lamb on top of the bread. Top all of this with almond, mint and saffron sauce. Fold the bread in half and enjoy.

2. KEBAB RESTAURANT: Variety of Kebabs
KEBABS: Cut the meat into cubes and place on a skewer. Grill sheep heart, liver and kidney kebab. Wrap the kebabs in bread and remove the skewers. Eat with this bread, yogurt and basil.

3. DALMAN (GAZ FACTORY): Gaz (candy)
SOCIAL MEDIA: @gazdalman
GAZ: Mix water, sugar and glucose and cook for 2 hours. Add some rose water, honey and herbal manna (desert plant sap). After cooking for 2.5 hours, add egg white. After cooking for 3 hours, add pistachios and almonds. Remove from heat and place it on flour so it doesn’t stick. Put in trays to cool down. Cut smaller and package.

At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,756,126 and its built-up (or metro) area was home to 2,391,738 inhabitants including Khomeynishahr, Shahinshahr, Khvorasgan, Dorcheh Piaz, Falavarjan, Kelishad Va Sudarjan, Abrisham, Kushk and Kharizsang cities.[

This city is famous not only in Iran but all over the world for its history and current development The city is also making headlines because of its nuclear plant. The city is called Sipahan in Persian and Isfahan in English. It is the third-largest city in Iran after Mashhad and Tehran which is the capital of Isfahan province. It also has the distinction of being the second-largest metropolitan area in the country.
As Isfahan is a historical city, it is also considered to be the most visited city in Iran. In 2018 and 2019, more than 450,000 foreign tourists visited the city. The city is also much more popular because of carpet weaving. A type of Persian carpet that is usually made of sealed wool and silk is a special gift of the city.

The most famous Persian description of the city of Isfahan is Esfahan Nesf-e Jahan which means Isfahan is half of the world, which the Isfahanis coined in the 16th century to express the city's grandeur.
The history of Isfahan can be traced back to the Paleolithic epoch. During their excavations, archaeologists have succeeded to discover enormous historical artifacts dating back to Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze and Iron ages.

Isfahan is a city of history, art, and culture that has many amazing and beautiful aspects to explore. Here are some of the facts that I found about Isfahan:
Isfahan is the third-largest city in Iran after Tehran and Mashhad, and has a population of about 1.6 million people.
Isfahan has six UNESCO heritage registered sites, including Naghsh Jahan Square, Masjed-e Jame, Chehel Sotoun, Imam Mosque, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, and Vank Cathedral.
Isfahan was the capital of the Safavid dynasty from 1598 to 1722, and reached its peak of glory and beauty under Shah Abbas I, who transformed the city into a center of art, architecture, trade, and culture.
Isfahan is known as “Nesf-e Jahān” (Half of the World) because of its rich and diverse attractions, such as historical monuments, Persian gardens, bridges, bazaars, mosques, churches, synagogues, and museums.
Isfahan is famous for its handicrafts, such as enameling, woodcarving, carpet weaving, tile making, miniature painting, and calligraphy. Isfahan is also home to many artists, musicians, poets, and philosophers.
Isfahan has a semi-arid climate with hot and dry summers and cold and snowy winters. The average annual temperature is 16.7 °C, and the average annual precipitation is 116 mm.
Isfahan is located on the Zayandeh River, which is the largest river in the central plateau of Iran. The river provides water for agriculture, industry, and recreation, and is crossed by several historic bridges, such as Si-o-se-pol, Khaju, and Shahrestan.
Isfahan has a diverse and tolerant religious community, with Muslims, Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and Baha’is living peacefully together. Isfahan has many places of worship, such as mosques, shrines, churches, cathedrals, and synagogues, that reflect the different faiths and cultures of the city.

Isfahan is a city in central Iran, known for its Persian architecture. In the huge Naqsh-e Jahan Square is the 17th-century Imam (Shah) Mosque, whose dome and minarets are covered with mosaic tiles and calligraphy. Ali Qapu Palace, built for Shah Abbas and completed in the late 16th century, has a music room and a verandah overlooking the square’s fountains. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is known for its intricate tiling.
