Road up to Citadelle La Ferrière, Cap Haitien Haiti UNESCO World Heritage Site National History Park

Here's what it looks like as you approach the Citadelle. While this is by motorized 4x4, I highly suggest taking a horse ride as it is a much better experience!

Haïti - Citadelle Laferrière & Sans-Souci Palace

A trip to Haïti (before the 2010 earthquake) with a visit to the Citadelle Laferrière and the Sans-Souci Palace, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The road trip to the North, and also the flight across the backcountry in a small passenger airplane, show the beautiful variety of landscapes in Haïti - from quasi desert to rice paddies, the sea, and misty mountains with red soil like those that overlook the capital Port-au-Prince.

I Discovered Another Machu Picchu! | Citadelle Laferrière Fortress In Haití ????????

If you love traveling as I do, you probably have in your bucket list to visit the famous Inca city of Machu Picchu in Perú. I have been there and it's spectacular.

But right now I think I have found a second version of Machu Picchu here in Haití. This is the Citadelle Laferrière, it’s a fortress constructed by thousands of former slaves to protect Haití from the French army.

Everything here reminds me of the famous Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru. The weather, the altitude, the humidity in the air, the shape of the mountains.
But because it’s not one of the seven wonders and it hasn’t been featured in Hollywood movies, nobody knows about it

This place is spectacular and it’s absolutely empty, I mean, my friends, me and a couple of local school groups are literally the only people here.
So if you are looking for a real adventure, maybe La Citadelle is for you

Drone flights over heritage sites in northern Haiti (incl. Citadelle Laferrière)

Some UAV flight recordings over heritage sites in northern Haiti, including King Henri Christophe's Sans Souci & La Citadelle. Many thanks to the Haitian park service to allow the flights. Flown with a DJI Phantom II quadrocopter & Gopro 3+, remote control problems resulted in a fixed 45 degree camera angle.

This is some byproduct of our actual work, bonus material collected in addition to an archaeological survey. Check out our research at
