In the early 80's, Jordan and Unesco expelled the humble people of the B'doul tribe from the ancient city of Petra to declare it as a world heritage site.
While hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to the site, the local community seeks to rebuild their life on the tiny territory allocated for them.
This documentary film is a journey to the heart of the B'doul tribe of Petra. It is also an approach intended to be lucid about the inscription to the world heritage of one the most visited and sought-after destinations on earth.

Raami Manaja, born to a Bedouin father and New Zealand mother, spent his first years in a cave, went to high school in New Zealand, studied electrical engineering in Australia and finally returned to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra.

Petra, Jordan. The Losw City of the ancient world/Renante Dolendo
Petra is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Inside Petra, also known as a Rose City is a Labyrinth of archeological wonders that has been around for over a thousand years. It is a testament to the ingenuity and organization of Nabatean civilization. Within a span of 400 years from the 3rd century B.C to the 1st century A.D, they designed and built this incredible complex. The Siq is the main entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra. It is a dim, narrow beautiful gorge that will take you 30 to 60 minutes. It is an amazing experience to walk through it. The Siq emcompases a 1.2 kilometers trail, snaking through a narrow and beautiful gorge. The passage lined with life size sculpture and many other historical artifacts. The Nabeteans were expert at surviving in the desert because they knew how to collect and distribute water. You can see an impressive system of rock cut channels and underground water pipes carried water from permanent springs and seasonal streams. They also developed a way to collect and store water in the waterlight holes and cisterns, hidden underground. These cisterns kept water from both evaporation and enemies. I enjoyed the color and the water canals on both sides are just so incredible. But most amazing and interesting road in the city wasn't carved by humans. The Siq, the narrow winding gorge that led to Petra is a Natural Wonder.

Visiting Petra, Jordan Travel Video (البتراء - Πέτρα) in the archaeological city of Ma'an. So we finally made it to Petra and it was the best introduction ever. We had to walk through the canyon for about an hour with our guide and he kept stopping and explaining little things. And right before we reached the treasury he distracted the whole group and he was showing us something up on the rocks and then he's like no that's not what I actually want to show you, so then when we turned around we could see the treasury through the slit in the canyon and it was the best view ever.

So Petra has a few nicknames. It's known as the Lost City because it was forgotten for such a long time and it is also known as the Rose City as you can see because of the color of the stone, it's a nice pinkish orange.

So some tips for visiting Petra, it's a lot like other archaeological sites. It's best to arrive early in the morning or potentially visit later on in the day. Late in the morning, early in the afternoon is literally the worst time to be here. Not just because of the crowds but because of the weather. It's a really smart idea to bring lots of water, pack some sunscreen and if you get really tired you can always ride a donkey, a camel or a horse. There is a lot of transportation options available.
Okay, so next up we're going to go visit the courtyard palace and we need to go up these steps and around and it is a very hot day, so hopefully we make it.
So we are now inside one of the tombs and it is a very dark and cool here, which we are enjoying. We need to cool off for a minute. But actually what is interesting about these tombs is that up until the 1980's there were Bedouins living in here with their entire families.
So that concludes our trip to Petra. We are just heading out now. It's been a long day and I think we can both agree that it is impossible to cover the entire archaeological site in a day or even in half a day. I think you need at least three.
