Part 2: Part 2: The WORST things about the Azores
Hello friends. Welcome to the Azores. I received an interesting question - on what would I say the worst things about the Azores are.
In this video, first, we are going to talk about what tourists find the most annoying on the Azores (from what I have heard from them the most) and then, a couple of things to consider if you are planning to move here full time.

Our home in Terceira boasts views of the Atlantic, overlooking the Angra do Heroísmo bay or the Praia da Vitoria beach. These are the two cities of Terceira Island, part of the Azores archipelago, with a total of 57 thousand inhabitants who, together, live in year-round celebration, both secular and religious.
Between Europe and America, the nine Azores islands are part of routes, journeys and the greatest scenery of the “blue ocean highways”. There is an island with an even greater geostrategic value that was a staging post for the ships that lead the European maritime expansion: Terceira Island.

The Azores' UNESCO World Heritage City (Walking the cobblestone streets of Angra do Heroismo) ????????
After I was released from quarantine, I quickly headed out to explore Terceira's top attraction: the UNESCO World Heritage City of Angra do Heroismo. The city, founded in 1478 (before Columbus' voyage!), boasts a myriad of historic colonial ruins, cream-coloured churches, mosaic cobblestone streets, and crumbling, charming alleyways.
From Angra, I headed to the Lajes International Airport to catch my afternoon flight to Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores (just a short 45 minute flight from Terceira).

Where the Ocean Meets the Cows (Seaside vibes in Praia da Vitória, Terceira, Azores) | Portugal ????????
I returned to Terceira not by choice, but because of a flight connection, which gave me the perfect opportunity to visit the island's second-largest town of Praia da Vitória, just a few kilometers east of the airport.
Here, I enjoyed a great afternoon walking along its majestic curved beach and poking around it's minute Cidade Velha (Old Town), featuring two candy-colored, whitewashed churches and some incredible cobblestone pedestrian streets.
If you're looking for a low-key, tourist-free place to base yourself on Terceira Island, this is a good option compared to the hustle of Angra do Heroismo.

Stunning Images of Terceira Island Azores. Terceira is a volcanic island in the Azores archipelago, in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Terceira It is one of the larger islands of the archipelago, with a population of 56,000 inhabitants in an area of approximately 153.19 square miles. It is the location of the Azores' oldest city, Angra do Heroísmo, the historical capital of the archipelago and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In this week of Sailing Zephyr we leave the Horta Marina in Faial and sail to the nearby island of Terceira. One of our most magical sails due to James and I spotting some Sperm Whales in the early morning shift change.
We arrive in Terceira and find a beautiful little anchorage just off the main beach in the city of Angra do Heroismo. This island is known for its festivities and food - The Party Island of the Azores. Like all the islands in the Azores, this one had so much to offer and we were excited to explore the botanical gardens, all the quaint little fishing villages and the museums. We also brave the cold waters of the Atlantic, James practices his Portuguese and we eat A LOT of good food.

AMAZING Terceira Island Tour - Exploring Terceira (Azores, Portugal)
The Terceira Island Tour with our tour guide Hildeberto Cabral took us in a Taxi Amigo Tours van around the perimeter of the island, from the Spanish fort near the highest point of Serra de Santa Bárbara, to Porto Judeu, through Praia Vitoria and Lajes, to the volcanic cave of Algar do Carvão and Biscoitos Natural Pools.

PERFECT DAY WALK on Terceira: Azores Island Life (Walking to Feteira)
When most people think of island life, they probably think of excessive partying, bikini models running around everywhere... you get the idea. Maui, Phuket, or the Bahamas this ain't.
But this is my idea of a perfect day on the island of Terceira in Portugal's Azores Islands: a long peaceful walk, exploring the neighborhoods and views of the Atlantic, and the ever present Ilhéus das Cabras - the Cabras Islets. Follow me as I walk from the neighborhood of Atalaia in the the Angra do Heroismo municipality to the town of Feteira and see what I find in the end and along the way.

The bulls of Terceira Island, Azores - Description:
Bull on a rope - Azores Terceira, one of the most colorful islands in the Azores holds 230 traditional bullfights each year. The island is about 2,000 miles off the East Coast of the United States. The people of Terceira hold touradas á corda every weekend, which is a unique running of the bulls, with the bull on a rope. It is found only in the Azores, and has been popular since the 16th Century. The bull is let loose with a very long rope around its neck, usually at the main square in a village, or along the seafront. Several experienced, hefty men, guide the bull.
The idea is, that the courageous people try to get as close to the bull as they dare. After the run, the bull is taken back to the wooden crate and an outdoor festival begins. The bull is never killed. Sometimes, in the larger towns such as Angra de Heroísmo, a Portuguese equestrian bullfight will follow in the arena. The Portuguese bullfight is, at first glance, quite simple. A caveleiro, or rider, dressed in a silk jacket embroidered with gold and lace, tan riding pants and black boots, takes to the arena atop a Lusitano breed of horse. The goal of the man and horse in a Portuguese bullfight is not to kill the bull, but to draw the bull to a charge and then to place a single dart in the bull’s back muscle. The horse and bull must charge at each other, with the horse suddenly veering off to avoid an impact. Then the rider must place the “ferro” colorful dart exactly and ride off unscathed.

Terceira is an island located off of the coast of Portugal and is part of the Azores islands. I visited in June of 2017 on a last minute trip. I literally booked my flight in the afternoon and left that evening on my 33 hour long journey to get there and surprise my family!
My father was born here, and my Mom's mom was pregnant with her when her 9 siblings and parents headed for the United States!
