ONE DAY IN TAORMINA (ITALY) | 4K 60FPS | A wonderful place on the east coast of Sicily
Taormina is a very worth seeing city, situated on a hill, which offers many historical monuments as well as a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. In the old town you can find most of the sights and the most beautiful viewpoints along Corso Umberto. Due to the picturesque landscape, mild climate and numerous historical sights, the city developed into one of the most important tourist centers in Sicily in the 19th and 20th centuries.
I only had about half a day to capture with my camera the many sights and the atmosphere that was unique to me. Among other things, I was thrilled by the great views, the old town and the many palaces, decorated with Arabic style elements. The visit to the Greek theater is the highlight of my video. It is the second largest ancient theater in Sicily, built in the 3rd century BC.
Taormina was defined by Goethe The greatest masterpiece of art and nature, and the historical French travel writer Guy de Maupassant called the city a painting in which we find everything that seems to exist on earth to seduce the eyes, mind and imagination. But just see for yourself - in my video.

We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Taormina, Sicily on June 2022.
Located on the east coast of Sicily, on a rocky plateau of Mount Tauro, beautiful Taormina is definitely a must-see travel destination for tourists from all over the world. Founded in the 4th century BC, it enjoyed great prosperity under the Greeks and later under the Romans, but fell into obscurity after being conquered by the Normans in 1087. Its reincarnation as a tourist destination dates to the 18th century, when it became a mandatory stop on the Grand Tour – the journey made by the European aristocracy of the time.
Because this charming city is located at an altitude of about 250 meters (820 ft), access to its beaches, including that of Isola Bella, is by an aerial tramway built in 1992.
Our guided walking tour is about 3 miles (4.8 km) long and covers most attractions and historic sites of Taormina.

TAORMINA, ITALY 2023 4K Walking Tour
The history of Taormina dates back to before Ancient Greece established its first colony on Sicily in 734 BCE. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Taormina continued to rank as one of the more important towns of the island. Taormina followed the history of Sicily in being ruled by successive foreign monarchs. After the Italian unification, Taormina began to attract well-off tourists from northern Europe, and it became known as a welcoming haven for gay men and artists.
The present town of Taormina occupies the ancient site, on a hill that forms the last projecting point of the mountain ridge that extends along the coast from Cape Pelorus to this point. The site of the old town is about 250 metres (820 ft) above the sea, while a very steep and almost isolated rock, crowned by a Norman castle, rises about 150 metres (490 ft) higher. This is the likely site of the ancient Arx or citadel, an inaccessible position mentioned by ancient writers. Portions of the ancient walls may be traced at intervals all round the brow of the hill, the whole of the summit of which was occupied by the ancient city. Numerous fragments of ancient buildings are scattered over its whole surface, including extensive reservoirs of water, sepulchres, tessellated pavements, etc., and the remains of a spacious edifice, commonly called a Naumachia, but the real purpose of which it is difficult to determine.
The ancient theatre of Taormina is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period. With a diameter of 109 metres (358 ft) (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The greater part of the original seats have disappeared, but the wall which surrounded the whole cavea is preserved, and the proscenium with the back wall of the scena and its appendages, of which only traces remain in most ancient theatres, are here preserved in an uncommon state of integrity. From the fragments of architectural decorations still extant it has been determined that these were of the Corinthian order, and richly ornamented. Some portions of a temple are also visible, converted into the church of San Pancrazio, but the edifice is of small size.

*You can get to Taormina by car, bus or train.*
*Coming by train,* the station is down the mount, from there you can take a local bus.
*Coming by bus* from Catania or Messina, you can use regional buses, which run many daily trips to Taormina.
*Coming by car,* you can park your car right on the mount, just 100 meters from Porta Messina (it costs 6 euro 3 hours, for example).
In Taormina you can also *spend half day or a full day at beach* (Isola Bella or Mazzarò): the town is connected with the coast by bus or a cableway.
Or you can go to the sand beach in Giardini Naxos, by bus.
*And now something to taste: the granita!*

Taormina is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Messina, on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy. Located on a hill of Monte Tauro, Taormina dominates two large, sprawling bays below and on the south side, the top of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, which is often covered in snow and offers visitors a breathtaking, dramatic and unforgettable experience .
Taormina has been a tourist destination since the 19th century. Its beaches on the Ionian sea, including that of Isola Bella, are accessible via an aerial tramway built in 1992, and via highways from Messina in the north and Catania in the south.
