FULL LECHON IN VINALES

1. BATEY LOS LORENZOS (Family house)
ADDRESS: Vinales, Cuba

????CUBA LECHON ASADO: Clean and cut the pig, then place it on a hammock. In each pocket of the pig, add seasoning (garlic, onion, cumin, calamondin and lime). Add salt in each pocket as well as on the skin. Place pig over an open fire and cover it with banana leaves for 3 hours. After 3 hours, flip the pig on the hammock and cook for one more hour.

????CONGRI (Cuban Black Beans and Rice): In a big pot, add the dried black beans, water and bring it to a boil. In a separate bowl, mash garlic, cachucha pepper, cilantro and onion together. Add the spices/seasoning to the boiling water with the beans, then add white rice. Add pork fat and grease to the pot, mix and then allow to cook until water is absorbed.

????????MALANGA (Fried Taro Chips): Peel the taro. Slice into circular shaped chips and fry in pork grease. Top with salt.

☕CAFÉ CUBANO (Cuban Coffee): Pick the beans from the tree. Lay the beans out on a large tarp and allow them to sit in the sun and dry. Mash the beans in a wooden bowl to remove the shells. Roast and grind the beans. Pour the ground beans into hot water and bring it to a boil. Pour the coffee into the filter.

VINALES travel guide! Things to do in Vinales Cuba. Coffee & tobacco farm, horse riding, cave tour

This is a description of my trip to Viñales, Cuba. Hope it helps you plan your time in Vinales as its a beautiful place and there are many things to do.

Travel details
I took a taxi collectivo from Havana to Viñales. It took 2.5 hours and cost 25 CUC per person. I booked this through the casa I was staying at in Havana.

I travelled to Trinidad after Vinales via the Viazul tourist bus The journey takes about 9 hours. I would recommend you avoid eating at the service stations and bring food/snacks with you if possible.

Where I stayed
Casa Particular Ridel y Claribel

Top things to do in Viñales

Tour to Finca Randon el Arado
Costs 15 CUC and includes a tour of farm and horse riding. I booked this through the casa.

Cuevas De Santo Tomas.
This cave is half an hour taxi ride away and entry is 15 CUC. The climb is quite steep so wear good walking shoes/trainers. The tour lasts about 90 minutes

The Cueva del Indio is another cave near Viñales. It costs 5CUC to enter. It is a short walk in the cave and a boat ride which lasts about 20 minutes.

Restaurants
3Js bar de Tapas was my favourite restaurant in Viñales. The food and drink were delicious. I highly recommend the Piña colada!

Finca Agroecologica El Paraiso is a farm and restaurant. It’s best to get a taxi there as it is quite a distance from the town. It is a set menu of soup, different meats and fish served with vegetables and salad. It costs 15 CUC per person.

Cuba | Havana | Vinales | 2020: (S03 E03)

In my third and final episode of my Cuban journey I explore the capital, Havana, as well as the home of the Cuban cigar, Vinales.
Having booked my accommodation on the Malecon not only gave me quick and easy access to the center of Havana and other charismatic parts of the city, but also incredible views of the famous sea-side avenue. The small streets of Havana are buzzing with local music, salsa and local goods available for purchase from the windows of most homes.
The iconic Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta and Castillo De Los Tres Reyes Del Morro are only a short walk away from the old-town part of Malecon.
If you think that time travel is only a myth, you are wrong. The old 1960s cars that stroll through Old Havana, surrounded by the classic Cuban-style baroque architecture, will take you back in time for sure! The faces of famous leaders and revolutionaries such as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, among others, are displayed on large buildings and other popular landmarks across the city.
Havana is known as the birthplace of the Mojito. La Bodeguita del Medio, a small bar with a huge reputation for being the birthplace of the Mojito, having served the popular cocktail since its opening in 1942.
The streets of Old Havana are like no other. Music, dancing and art make this city special. Do not be surprised to see spit-roasted pig in the middle of the street either.
Transportation in Havana is readily available to everybody at any given time. If it has wheels, it is a taxi. From bicycles, to old classic cars, to 'Camiones'.
Malecon not only offers tranquility and stunning sunset views, but also a sense of romance as the waves of the Caribbean Sea break into the rocks alongside the main avenue.

2h 30min West of Havana is Vinales, the origin of the world famous Cuban cigar. Being a cigar fan myself, this was a place that I simply had to visit.
As you approach closer to Vinales, the scenery becomes 'less city', and 'more village'. Tabaco fields as far as the eye can see, and small Cuban village-style houses all along the main road.
Diego showed us around his farm and explained the process of growing and preparing the Tabaco, as well as how to roll the perfect Cuban cigar. Diego also explained the difference between the different Cuban cigar brands, and explained how each brand differs in accordance to the strength of their cigars. This means that the brand is not 'just a brand', as each of these utilize a different part of the Tabaco plant for their cigars, therefore producing different strength types, interesting! At Diego's farm we were not only given the opportunity to purchase Cuban cigars straight from the main source, but we were also shown how Cuban coffee is made, and of course the traditional alcohol, Cuban rum! All available for purchase.
Just a short drive away from Diego's farm is another Cuban phenomenon, Mural de la Prehistoria. With a length of 120 meters, this rockface boasts one of the biggest open-air paintings in the world. The painting took twenty farmers, four years to complete as ordered by Fidel Castro, to depict the evolution of man.
The Vinales Valley offers breathtaking views and a gasp of fresh air under the hot Cuban sun. Indian Cave is another popular attraction in the Vinales region, featuring a cave, walking paths and a subterranean river.

How Expensive is Cuba I Old Havana

How expensive is Cuba, La Havana? Check out this video to know how much costs basic things you will need on your trip to Cuba Havana.

A trip to Cuba can be done on a budget but also in an expensive way. Therefore, we focus mostly on basic things you need to get or do while in La Havana, Cuba.

Internet in Cuba - you have to go to ETESCA Office on Obispo street, where you need to purchase a Nauta card for 1 CUC. Bring your passport. I think you can get only 3 cards per passport.

Bigote de Gato - our favorite bar in Old Havana for a very reasonable price. Only 1,95 CUC per cocktail and absolutely amazing Pinacolada.

Hotels - definitely stay in Casa Particulars. You can book through Airbnb.

We will be releasing a video about travel tips very soon. So stay tuned for that if you're planning a trip to Cuba.
