Air Greenland A330 flight deck ride to Copenhagen with business class review!

In this video we wrap up our Greenland series by jumping back aboard Norsaq, Air Greenland’s venerable A330. We’re back on the flight deck as we take off from a sunny Kangerlussuaq (SFJ), making a 180-degree turn over the Søndre Strømfjord and then climbing as we head east over the ice cap. That gives us a great chance to soak up more incredible views of Greenland, for the last time on this visit. We then step back into a business class seat to check out Air Greenland’s onboard offering and have lunch, for a mini-review of the A330 business class. Finally it’s back into the cockpit for landing into Copenhagen (CPH) just as night falls. Enjoy the magical night-time flight deck ambiance and a smooth landing back in Denmark. (Recorded in September 2021.)

On the flight deck: flying Air Greenland's A330 to Kangerlussuaq

In this video we fly from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) in Greenland onboard Air Greenland's A330-200 OY-GRN. Come along as we join the Captain for his pre-flight walkaround, take a wander through the cabin before everyone has boarded (sampling both economy and business class seats) and then sit in the jumpseat for the duration of the flight. We get a detailed explanation of some of the important aspects of the flight planning from the First Officer, we navigate around an area of observed severe turbulence, and we enjoy epic views of Greenland on a clear and sunny day across the world's largest island. Finally, we make a visual approach into Kangerlussuaq on a stunning CAVOK day. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button, and let us know what you thought in the comments! Your thoughts (and likes) are much appreciated.

The World's Strangest International Airport - Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (Cultural Travel Guide)

Kangerlussuaq has a fascinating history and an uncertain future. The former US airbase of Sondrestrom is currently the hub of Air Greenland's network and the only airport in the country that can accommodate the Airbus A330 that flies the daily lifeline link to Copenhagen. A small town of around 500 people services the airport, far from the major urban centres of Greenland. Local tour operators provide options for transiting passengers that include searching for musk oxen and driving to the ice cap. However, all that is about to change as new international airports are scheduled to open in Nuuk and Ilulissat in 2024. The future for Kangerlussuaq's airport and, more importantly, for its residents, is very much in doubt.

Steep approach over icebergs! Flying the Air Greenland Dash 8 to Aasiaat and Ilulissat

In this video we fly from Kangerlussuaq to Aasiaat and Ilulissat in the flight deck of the trusty Dash 8-200. See what it's like from the pilot's perspective flying a steep approach (6 degree glideslope) into the very short runway (799 meters) at Aasiaat. The pilots tell us all about what flying in Greenland is like and in the end the scheduled service turns into a sightseeing flight, coming in over Disko Bay and seeing the thousands of enormous icebergs that surround Ilulissat. Then another beautiful steep approach into Ilulissat. An incredible day for flying and an incredible crew to do it with.

Air Greenland Airbus A330-200 in Fort McMurray, Alberta! (4K)

On January 27th, this Air Greenland Airbus A330 flew into Fort McMurray, Alberta, operating a charter flight for the Arctic Winter Games.

The Arctic Winter Games are a multi-sport and cultural event for Indigenous peoples living around the Arctic Circle, and have been taking place every two years since 1970.

This year, the Games are being held in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Northeastern Alberta, with participants coming from as far away as northern Scandinavia and Greenland, hence this special flight to Fort McMurray.

Now, Air Greenland and Fort McMurray are two things I never expected to say in the same sentence. They're one of the most unique airlines in the world, and their operation is fascinating.

Air Greenland's A330 usually flies exclusively between Greenland and Denmark, so seeing it in Canada is an exceptionally rare event. Add Fort McMurray of all places into the mix, and you can see why I had to make the trip up from Calgary to see it!

This is one of the largest aircraft to ever land in Fort McMurray, and a 7500 foot runway plus an A330 was bound to make for quite the interesting arrival. The plane stayed overnight and left the following morning back to Greenland.

Enjoy this very rare, all-red A330!

TRIP REPORT | Air Greenland - A330 200 - Copenhagen (CPH) to Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) | Business Class

Welcome to another trip report!

On August 20, I flew Air Greenland from Copenhagen, Denmark to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland in Business Class. This was one of the coolest flights I've ever taken because I love flying to Arctic places.

Air Greenland (previously known as Greenlandair) is the flag carrier and only airline based in Greenland. They operate a fleet of 32 aircraft and are owned by the Greenlandic Government. Besides running scheduled services and government-contracted flights to most villages in the country, they also support remote research stations and provide charter services for tourists and Greenland's energy and mineral-resource industries along with medivac operations during emergencies. They technically have seven subsidiaries: the airline, hotels, tour operators, a travel agency specialized in Greenlandic tourism, and the Arctic Umiaq Line, an unprofitable but government-subsidized ferry service that I am interested in doing a video on in the near future.

This is the first Air Greenland trip report on YouTube, so I hope you enjoy it!

Air Greenland - A330 200 - Economy - Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) to Copenhagen (CPH) | TRIP REPORT

Air Greenland is the flag carrier airline of Greenland owned by the Greenlandic Government. The airline is over 60 years old and currently has a fleet of 32 aircraft including a single A330 used for transatlantic and United States military charter flights. Kangerlussuaq is home to just 508 people, but it acts as a feeder airport to smaller towns that don't have long runways. Flights to heliports in the remote settlements are operated on contract with the government of Greenland.

The airline is a unique way to visit the Arctic, and if you're looking for an adventure I highly suggest traveling North instead of South on your next vacation. Also as of December 2022 the Air Greenland A330neo has entered its fleet!

Air Greenland - A330 800neo - Business Class - Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) to Copenhagen (CPH) | TRIP REPORT

I recently flew on Air Greenland's newest aircraft to experience its Premium cabin with snowy landscapes and friendly Danish hospitality.

Air Greenland is owned by the Greenlandic government, but realistically it's a heavily Danish-influenced airline with mostly European executives. The airline has played a pivotal role in connecting the vast and unpredictable landscapes of Greenland for decades as the autonomous territory of Denmark has no roads outside of town limits. Aviation serves as a lifeline for remote communities, especially those without access to harbors. SAS and a Danish mining company founded the airline as Grønlandsfly in 1960.

The A330-800neo has been a slow seller as only 7 have been built so far. But the shortened widebody fits Air Greenland's future plans to connect the capital city Nuuk's short-runway and Copenhagen while being stuffed with cargo. It replaced the airline's previous jet (an old A330-200 nicknamed Norsaq). Passenger comfort was decreased in the new high-density jet, and the quality in Premium class also decreased poorly. I was disappointed in the undercooked food, lack of hot towels, and reduced personal touch (even though prices were increased 2x).
