Ep. 98: Canyonlands National Park & Moab | RV travel Utah camping

Canyonlands encompasses over 337,000 acres of high Eastern Utah desert including colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches, and spires. Water and gravity have been the primary architects of this land, sculpting layers of rock into the rugged landscape you see today.

While boondocking on state land for free camping along Dalton Wells Road, we explore Gemini Bridges, travel Island in the Sky, descend the precipitous Shafer Trail, visit Thelma & Louise Point, check out the climbers along Wall Street, grab a burger at Milt's Stop 'n Eat, and preview the BLM campgrounds along the Colorado Riverway Recreation Area.

Filmed April 23-26, 2019.

One Day in Moab, Utah! | Arches & Canyonlands National Park + Corona Arch

Welcome back to another day in Moab, Utah! Our goal for the day was to visit the two most popular parks in the area - Arches & Canyonlands. We started the day by heading to Canyonlands National Park, which is just like it sounds - lots of canyons! We hiked the Grand View Point and the Green River overlook before heading to one of the most popular hikes in the area - Mesa Arch. Since we don't have a 4x4 car or off-roading capabilities, we weren't able to explore any of the areas before Island in the Sky. Our next stop was the more popular of the 2 parks in Moab - Arches National Park! We visited landscape arch and the windows sections, we HIGHLY recommend both of these! We put off visiting Delicate arch because of how busy the area was, with plans to come back the next day.
By the time we got to Arches the next day, the park was closed due to capacity! We didn't' know this park was closing when they were full, which is our mistake for not keeping up with current regulations. Instead of leaving the area early, we decided to do one last arch-related hike - Corona Arch (we thought the name was too fitting for the time we're in). This was a pretty hot hike and there was a lot of direct exposure to the sun, but the reward was totally worth it! Corona Arch turned out to be one of our favorite arches we saw, it just wasn't as popular since it's not in Arches National Park. After our last hike, we started the drive to one of our favorite places in Colorado: Telluride! Make sure to subscribe to see our videos from Colorado. Thanks for watching :)

MOAB, Utah | Goblin Valley, Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point - USA road trip & travel vlog

Weekend in MOAB, Utah | All the highlights: Goblin Valley, Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point

In this video, we are spending two days in Moab, Utah, where we will visit Goblin Valley State Park, Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, and Canyonlands National Park.

This is the grand finale of our multi-state road trip where we have visited Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho, Twin Falls, Bonneville Salt Flats, and Great Basin National Park.

Moab, Utah has so many incredible natural features, there is no way you could accomplis everything in one weekend. However, if you are like me and only have a limited amount of PTO, you see what you can. This video covers some of the main highlights of the Moab, Utah area.

We started off with Goblin Valley State Park, which is actually about an hour and a half outside of Moab (about 100 miles away). However, if you are going east towards Moab anyways and have a couple of hours to spare, don't skip Goblin Valley. It is a very unique landscape that is great to just wander around and explore freely (there are hiking trails, but you don't have to stick to them). Another quick note about Goblin Valley, is that their campgrounds actually have showers, which we utilized.

After Goblin Valley, we went into the town of Moab to get a few groceries and to get some lunch. We ate at a Mexican restaurant next to the grocery store while we waited for the morning crowd of Arches to leave. The time of year we were here (June) is a very popular time to visit, so the lines can get incredibly long to get into the park. The NPS website had mentioned to try to enter the park after 3 PM to avoid these crowds, so that's exactly what we did.

Once in Arches, we strolled throughout the Windows section, where we saw Turret Arch and North & South Windows. After that, we walked over to Double Arch and enjoyed the views from there.

Once we finished there, we drove over to Balanced Rock. This formation is quite amazing, and the trail to get to it is nice and short (only about 10-15 minutes).

After Balanced Rock, we went over towards Delicate Arch to complete this iconic hit. It is about 3.2 miles and relatively moderate. It is especially popular around sunset, so if you want to do this hike at that time, be sure to get there a bit early to find a parking spot.

After this long day, we went on to our Dead Horse Point State Park campground (Wingate Campground), set up quickly, and went to sleep.

The next morning, we woke up, made our final campfire meal of the trip, and packed up our gear. We went to the main viewpoint of Dead Horse Point State Park, before making our way to the other Moab National Park: Canyonlands.

We went in through the Island in the Sky entrance, and stopped at a few viewpoints along our way to the Mesa Arch trail head. This trail is very quick and easy, taking only about 30 minutes to complete. This trail has an excellent payoff - a canyon rim arch with incredible light reflection and views of the canyon behind it.

By this point, we were ready to get to Salt Lake City because that's where our next hotel was. By this point we were quite excited to get to a shower. We also did some outlet shopping once we got to SLC:

This concluded our very adventurous multi-day road trip across several amazing western states.

Visiting Moab, Utah * Arches and Canyonlands National Parks

I felt a bit unmotivated to edit my latest videos, which is why you see this vlog only now. We went to Moab (our second time there!) with our friends Zahra and Shahab last May. We visited Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and saw a lot of things that we haven't during our previous road trip.

I'm sorry it took forever to sit down, upload all the footage from my phone and edit this vlog. Let's look back at this summer weekend together! :)
