Keran is a village located in the Neelum district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan but a 2nd part of this village was located in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is situated in the Line of Control (LoC) and is one of many border villages in the region. Due to its proximity to the LoC, the village has faced security issues and restrictions on movement in the past. It is a remote and underdeveloped area, with limited access to basic amenities and infrastructure. The population is primarily engaged in agriculture and animal farming. Keran کیرن is a village and tourist resort in Neelum Valley, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. It is located 93 KM from Muzaffarabad on the bank of Neelum River at the altitude of 5,000 ft at sea level. Neelam village is 2.5km away from here. India and Pakistan share a long border line from Ladakh to Gujarat. There are many villages on the LoC and border. Some of the villages are such that got divided with the partition. Teetwal in Kashmir is one of those villages. Teetwal was one village before the partition but now one part of the village is on Pakistan side and the other part is in India. On the Pakistan side is the Neelum valley and the nearest town is Muzzafarabad. The village located on the banks of Neelum river, the neelum river is the dividing line between India-Pakistan here. There are some popular villages like Keran sector, seemari or simari village alongside the LoC in Kashmir that are located right on the India Pakistan border. Keran and seemari villages have no fencing on India Pakistan border.

The only line that is visible in Teetwal village from Chilhana village of Pakistan Kashmir is the Neelum River which is called kishanganga on the other side. The village of Teetwal in the Kupwara district of Kashmir is half in India, while the other half falls in Pakistan. The Pakistani side of this village is now called Chilhana, which is part of the Neelum valley of Muzaffarabad in Pakistani-administrated Kashmir.Teetwal's history dates back to the partition of India in 1947, when the region was divided into India and Pakistan. The town found itself divided, with one part under Indian control and the other part becoming part of Pakistani-administered Kashmir. The LoC, established as a de facto border, now runs through the heart of the town, acting as a constant reminder of the political divide.
The people of Teetwal live their lives amid the constant presence of security forces and the reality of cross-border tensions. Despite the difficulties they face, they continue to maintain their cultural and social ties throughout the LoC. Families are separated by the border and often relatives cannot be reunited due to strict regulations and restrictions imposed by both countries. The border crossing is a rare opportunity for you to meet and share precious moments together.

???? ABOUT THIS EPISODE:
On this day (14-sep-2021), I left from State Continental Hotel, KEL and had a ride to the last village on LOC in Azad Kashmir. Beyond this point, Indian side of Kashmir starts. Taobutt actually lies in GUREZ VALLEY. This was a big valley before partition. Few portion of Gurez Valley is at Indian side and few portion is in Gilgit Baltistan.
Best time to visit TAOBUTT is June to September
Normally jeep takes 4 hrs from KEL to TAOBUTT and motorbike takes around 3hrs. However i rode on this road with lot of stops so reached Taobutt in the evening in 7 hrs.
Jeep Fare = 350 Rs from KEL to TAOBUTT
There are plenty of family and bachelor hotels in Taobutt. Few of the good ones are:
- Shabistan hotel
- Taobutt continental hotel
- Kishan Ganga hotel
There are SCOM mobile signals available at Taobutt however internet speed is not good.

The Line of Control is a military control line between the Indian- and Pakistani-controlled parts of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was established as part of the Simla Agreement at the end of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.Both nations agreed to rename the ceasefire line as the Line of Control and pledged to respect it without prejudice to their respective positions.
The disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir is divided into two parts: the Indian-controlled section and the Pakistani-controlled section. The Line of Control is the boundary separating these two parts, and NJ9842 is the northernmost point on the Line of Control. Beyond NJ9842 lies the Siachen Glacier, which has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan since 1984. South of the Line of Control (Sangam, Chenab River, Akhnoor), the border between Pakistani Punjab and the Jammu province is unclear: India considers Jammu to be a part of its territory, while Pakistan does not recognize Jammu as an official province.
Another ceasefire line separates the Indian-controlled state of Jammu and Kashmir from the Chinese-controlled area known as Aksai Chin. Lying further to the east, it is known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
