Finding Our Way - The Camino de Santiago Documentary

A pilgrimage for both the body and mind - the Camino de Santiago is really something special. This documentary shows how we found our way, the hard way.

We walked the Camino Frances in August 2021. We had no idea the impact that it would have on us and spent many of our days looking forward to its end. Six months later, we are still talking about our time on the Camino and its impact on us. We had no idea that the Camino was exactly the journey we needed and would continue to teach us life lessons to this day.

This 27 day 795 km walk along the Camino de Santiago Francés or French Way starting in St Jean Pied de Port going to Santiago de Compostela passing over the Pyrenees mountains through Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos, León, Ponferrada and Sarria in late summer of 2023.

The Camino de Santiago, known in English as the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrims' ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.

The Camino Francés (French Way) is the most popular of the routes, with the most deep-rooted historical tradition. Typically it takes at least four weeks to cover the 790 km long route, allowing for a few days rest days along the way.

The Entire Camino In 10 Minutes

I couldn't record a new video this week due to a family emergency, but we still wanted to try something different. Is this format something you would be interested in seeing more in the future? I know most subscribers aren't interested in the Camino, but it's kind of a cool challenge trying to tell such a long story in only 10 minutes without a bunch of boring exposition. I'll definitely keep making series and long movies for my future hikes, too, but I like trying new things. I am interested in hearing your thoughts!

Women's Camino de Santiago Packing List: Camino Frances (ULTRALIGHT)

The only packing list you’ll ever need! This is my second time walking the Camino Francés from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela. I walked this as part of a long Camino from Le Puy-en-Velay. We walked the Camino Francés section in September 2023.

Here's a complete list of gear I brought in my 24 liter backpack, what I would change for different seasons, and how I only brought what I needed. Your walk can be so much more pleasant, carrying only what you need. A lighter bag is a happier peregrina!

Gold stars if you can count how many times I say “merino wool.”

We spent 26 days completing our Camino journey. This is my fifth Camino; I have walked all of them with an ultralight pack.

How Much Does the Camino de Santiago Cost? Camino Frances Budget Breakdown

Is the Camino de Santiago expensive? How can I save money on the Camino? How much did we spend per day? We share our full budget breakdown and ways you can save money walking the Camino Frances.

We started our walk on August 7, 2023 in Le Puy-en-Velay. After spending 28 days walking in France, we arrived at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on September 3rd. From there, we walked 26 days on the Camino Frances, arriving in Santiago de Compostela on September 29, 2023.

Part one of this journey, the Via Podiensis (Chemin du Puy, Le Puy Camino) Vlogs:

This is Lainey's second time walking the Camino Frances and Shawn's 4th. We hiked the Via Podiensis, Camino Primitivo, and Camino de Invierno in 2023, the Camino del Norte in 2019, and the Camino Frances in 2017. We packed ultralight bags for all of our journeys.

Virtually Walk the Coastal Camino Way & Beyond in Baiona, Galicia | Eat & Walkabout

Walk with us the Coastal Way of St. James Virtually!

The Coastal Camino Way is the third most frequent pilgrimage way of Saint James with 52,746 pilgrims during 2023, an increase of 75% compared to 2022. The total amount of pilgrims that walked the Camino de Santiago in 2023 was a record-breaking 446,035 pilgrims. During our virtual live-streaming camino walk we will follow part of the Portuguese Coastal Way coming into the noble seaside village of Baiona, Galicia, Spain. I will be accompanied by my good friend Mark Auchincloss a camino expert who has walked the way many times. A wealth of knowledge about the pilgrimage way and in fact, he lived in Baiona for many years. As we walk (virtually), we will chat about what it is like to walk the pilgrimage way of Saint James, and we will go beyond the Camino trail to show you some must-see sights when visiting Baiona...

Here you can find out more about the Town Council of Baiona (Concello de Baiona) in our Destination guide...

Read here our 10 Best Things to do in Baiona...

A Big thanks to the Concello de Baiona & Turismo de Baiona...
