ABOUT US.

We’re the Lockwoods: a family with 3 kids, 5 careers, and endless passion for adventure. Two years ago, we decided it was time for Phil's ad agency to abandon the in-person, 5-day workweek. So they 86’d the office and work hours, allowing our own family to start traveling almost constantly. We now work, school, and explore in a different place every week—from our own mountain and beach homes to exotic villas, resorts, and yachts around the world. As we experience and support diverse cultures, we hope to inspire more families to design a life of freedom and adventure.

Because there’s a new American Dream. It’s one that’s void of templated expectations, templated career paths, templated education, templated families, templated homes, and templated lives. Freedom is no longer an American tagline—it’s just the new, global way of life.

Every day that you spend doing something that doesn’t fulfill you to your core, you’re living your life on pause. You’re deferring genuine family time with no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow or a someday. Some people follow that mentality their entire lives. We’ve chosen to never live that way again.

We appreciate you following our journey. The more our channel grows, the more time we can spend traveling to more locations, contributing to these cultures, highlighting local businesses, and sharing inspiring stories from these communities. So please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing so that you can stick with us for the long haul.

Firenze or Florence, is more than a city – it’s a feeling. Walking through the stunning streets of Firenze is like stepping back into an era when the great Italian artists ruled the city. You’re surrounded by Renaissance architecture, the romantic Arno River, and a palpable, omnipresent energy that emanates from the city. There are so many amazing things to do in Florence, it would take a lifetime to see it all!

This wasn’t our first time seeing the city of Florence. And no, that’s not a humble brag. It’s to say that this is a city to return to over and over again and still never see it all. You have to revel in the Renaissance history, bow down to Boticelli’s Venus, enjoy the flavors of the famed Florentine steak, and delight in the beauty of the Duomo.

Florence is one of the most amazing cities in Italy and also the world! The food, art, and history make it one of the best places to visit in Italy. During this video of Florence we show you some of our favorite places for Pizza, Pasta, Gelato, & Lasagna. When in Florence, the diet goes out the window. Be ready for red wine, Florentine steak, and truffle pasta. Some of our favorite restaurants are:
La Grotta Guelfa
All'antico Vinaio
Antico Porto
and Perche No

just to name a few. For more info. Check out our blog post!

The Florentine and Tuscan cuisines are extremely similar if not even the same. The recipes are all based on hearty vegetables as mushrooms and legumes served with gamey meats like rabbit and wild boar. They also have a very particular bread made without salt which takes some getting used to.
Our Florentine locals have put together a variety of different types of places sit down for a meal or grab a quick bite to go. We hope it helps you take the guesswork out of your decision and focus on enjoying your vacation.

LEGENDARY 1.3KG Florentine Steak! Eating Bistecca alla Fiorentina in Italy! ????????

IS IT WORTH IT?! Today we are trying the BEST steak in Florence, Italy! Weighing a whopping 1.3kg (2.8 lbs) and served rare on a sizzling hot stone, Bistecca alla Fiorentina is a traditional Florentine dish! But...is it worth the hefty €112 price tag??

Trattoria dall’Oste has four steak houses across Florence sourcing the best breeds of cattle from Italy and the world. Bistecca alla Fiorentina or The Florentine Steak is a thick t-bone beef cut weighing anywhere from 1kg-4kg (2lb-8lb) and typically from the Chianina breed of cattle. The steak is grilled over a wood fire until it develops a charred crust on the outside while remaining rare and juicy on the inside, then traditionally, seasoned only with salt.

According to who you talk to, there are a few rules to craft the perfect Bistecca alla Fiorentina:
● It must be eaten rare.
● The thickness is measured in fingers. To be Florentine, a steak has to be at least 3 fingers thick.
● It must be cooked using a certain wood and at a constant temperature.
● There is no sauce – the only thing added after cooking, is some salt.
● It's not supposed to be just part of a dish, this is the dish.

In this video, we are exploring ROME one last time before leaving for another city! We have a huge day of eating Italian food planned!

We are starting the day in the heart of Roma, the Pantheon, to eat a typical Italian breakfast: caffe latte freddo, macchiato and a Sfogliatelle. Then, we are taking you to one of our all-time favourite family-run restaurant: Trattoria Da Enzo al 29! This restaurant has the most traditional Roman pastas - we had the Pasta alla Gricia, Amatriciana, Roman-Jewish fried artichoke and wine for lunch. ITALIAN STREET FOOD in Tuscany ???????? 1.5kg Florentine Steak + PANINI INSANITY in Siena, Italy!!

This is Siena, an ancient Tuscan town which has become a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has a ton of amazing things to offer… One of which being DELICIOUS ITALIAN STREET FOOD!

For breakfast, we went deep into Siena’s historical centre to Gino Cacino di Angelo for their famous paninis. We ordered their eggplant specialty panino, and their porchetta panino. It was a perfect breakfast! You can also order amazing charcuterie boards and a wide variety of Italian wines. After a little sightseeing around the medieval squares, we stopped at a local caffe for a double espresso (doppio espresso). For lunch, we went to a super local “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant called Osteria Il Grattacielo dal 1840. For lunch here, there is no menu and you order either the “cold” lunch (Tuscan cured meats & cheeses) or the “hot” lunch (pasta). We both opted for the hot lunch, and had two different kinds of tagliatelle - one with pesto and the other with pomodoro and cheese. We washed it all down with the house wine, which was the best wine we had in all of Italy. For dessert we tried a unique treat called Cantucci e Vin Santo. The cantucci is essentially biscotti and Vin Santo is a strong, sweet wine. They pair by dipping the cantucci into the vin santo, which was surprisingly good!

Since it was our last day in Italy, we popped into a traditional wine shop called Cantina in Piazza and picked out several bottles of Tuscany and Italian wines to bring home. After a short break, we drove outside the city of Siena to the countryside of Tuscany. There, we went to a restaurant that specializes in Bistecca alla Fiorentina. This massive chunk of steak is seared on high heat briefly and is served shortly after almost raw. You can choose different types of beef, whether you prefer bone in/out and how many KGs you would like. We also ordered their risotto, since we didn’t have the chance to try it in Milan.
