Tegucigalpa (in Nahuatl language Teguz-Galpa) formally Municipality of the Central District and colloquially referred to as Tegus or Teguz, is the capital and largest city of Honduras.
Christopher Columbus landed at Trujillo in 1502; he baptized this area Honduras – literally depths in spanish – because of the depth of the waters of this coast.
Banana production in Honduras plays an important role in the Honduran economy. In 1992, revenue generated from banana sales was US$287 million and, together with the coffee industry, accounted for about 50% of exports.
Honduras produced 861,000 tons of bananas in 1999.
Roatán is an island in the Caribbean, about 65 kilometres (40 mi) off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja, and is the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
The island was formerly known in English as Ruatan and Rattan.

It's day 200 of my incredible backpacking adventure! I've just touched down in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, and I can't wait to show you around. Join me as I dive into the heart of this vibrant city and experience its unique charm.
I'm all about walking through the streets and soaking in the local vibes. Trust me, traffic here isn't exactly pedestrian-friendly, but that won't stop me from exploring! I've already realized that Tegucigalpa isn't your typical flat city – those stairs are no joke! And check out the former presidential palace, now a cool museum. The sights are already captivating, and I've barely scratched the surface.
Speaking of sights, I'm in the city square right now, amidst some background karaoke and a preacher doing his thing. It's surprisingly serene for a bustling square. The cathedral here is an absolute masterpiece, both from the front and the sides. You know me, I can't resist taking a peek inside!
Oh, did I mention the little surprises I've stumbled upon? From charming squares to impressive churches, Tegucigalpa is giving me all the good feels. But my next mission? Finding a bus to take me up to a killer viewpoint. You know I'm up for any adventure, even if it involves a bit of confusion and missed stops. But hey, that's what makes it memorable, right?
Finally made it to the top, and the cityscape below is breathtaking. And guess who's here to welcome me? Big JC – a.k.a. the statue of Jesus that overlooks the city. Can you believe I have this whole place to myself? It's like a secret paradise up here, and I'm savoring every moment.
Tegucigalpa has surprised me in ways I couldn't have imagined. Who knew this capital city held so much charm? I'm extending my stay to dig deeper into Honduras and its treasures.
