TASTY BULGARIAN food and market tour

Trying LOCAL FOOD in the LARGEST city of Bulgaria! Sofia! ⇩⇩Click ‘show more’⇩⇩

In today's video, we spend a whole day eating only local and traditional Bulgarian food, and we also got a chance to try some Bulgarian alcohol named Rakija.

LADIES MARKET: A.K.A the Zhenski Pazar women's market. This is the oldest market in all of Sofia. They are outdoor markets and you can find everything here starting from fresh produce, traditional souvenirs, clothing, fresh meat, dairy products, spices and clothing, etc.

CENTRAL MARKET: This is a large 3 story, the indoor market located just a 5 minute walk up the road from the lady's markets. Here you will find many things, from food stuff, stalls, shops, clothing, dairy products, cafes, bakeries, etc.

Throughout Sofia, you will find many ruins scattered across the city center from the Serdica people.

Must try food while you are in Bulgaria are The shopska salad, tripe soup (Shkembe), kebapche, mekitsa, banitsa, any bakery goods with sirene cheese, meatball and Rakija! (As shown in the video).

THIS IS BULGARIAN FOOD? (Sofia Bulgaria Food Tour)

We were BLOWN AWAY by BULGARIAN FOOD. Maybe it was just our low expectations, but WOW, were we surprised by the food in Sofia Bulgaria!

We finally made it to Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria, and what better way to explore than by trying delicious food? We start our day with a traditional Bulgarian breakfast, consisting of Bulgarian street food, then explore the Sofia City Garden.

Next, we indulge in some traditional dishes, including soups and the national dish of Bulgaria. Afterwards, we visit Sofia’s most popular attraction before getting caught in an intense rain storm! To end the day, we have a final gut check at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant serving up all sorts of delicious Bulgarian food. Sadly, this wraps up our Bulgaria travel series, and tomorrow we head to a new country!

FIRST TIME TRYING BULGARIAN FOOD (Sofia Food Tour)

???????? HOW IS IT ALL SO GOOD!?

We are so excited to try a bunch of different Bulgarian food (and Bulgarian street foods) especially the raved about Shopska salad.
We started our DIY Sofia food tour with a BANG, trying Banitsa at one of the most recommended bakeries in Sofia. It wasn't a surprise they were amazing, what was a surprise is which one we like the best!
We then unfortunately had a not so good time at a local favourite cafe before the day really rallied and we had a few traditional Bulgarian foods at Izbata tavern!

I think we nailed the Bulgarian food tour!

Thanks for watching!

Balkan Bites free food tour with Bulgarian food | Sofia, Bulgaria

While in Sofia, Bulgaria, we decided to try some delicious Bulgarian cuisine by going on the Balkan Bites free food tour, which let us try Bulgarian relish, yoghurt, doughnuts, cheese, and desserts. Afterwards we went back to one of the restaurants we had gone to on the food tour to have a full meal, which ended up being very delicious. Along the way, Nicole talked about how she learned the Cyrillic alphabet, and why she thinks it's worth learning even for a short trip like this one.

We really enjoyed the Balkan Bites food tour, so if you want to join as well, check them out here:
