SVALBARD - INCREDIBLE Euro Trip to The North Pole
I went on the adventure of a lifetime with 3 friends to the most Northern Town in the World, Svalbard which is an 'archipelago', part of Norway, located in the Arctic Ocean well north of the Arctic Circle.
Our whirlwind 4 day trip took us from Manchester (UK) to most of the Scandinavian countries stopping at:
- Oslo (Norway)
- Svalbard (Norway)
- Copenhagen (Denmark)
- Malmö (Sweden)
Where we explored and had some unplanned crazy experiences, including venturing out to the summit of a dangerous Svalbard mountain outside of the Polar Protection Zone armed with just a flare gun as well as many almost missed planes, trains and buses!

The warmth of a Longyearbyen summer, during 24-hour daylight, brings out a herd of Svalbard reindeer to graze and prance through the village. This is what life is like in the world's northernmost town.
Even in Norway's High Arctic, surprisingly, there are bargains to be discovered and affordability for the budget traveler. The Svalbard tourist information center distributes free bicycle rentals and although the ride itself isn't special, it sure beats beating the pavement on foot.
When cycling in Svalbard in Norway Land of the Midnight Sun, Matt views a sunset over the town and other unique features in this remote northern village.
Magnificent Svalbard reindeer are observed in town as is the helicopter during an Arctic Search and Rescue. The village's school, greenhouse and an abandoned mine are also on display during this ride when, even on flat roads, a free bicycle presents its physical challenges.
And during some down periods, the role of the Svalbard Governor and his responsibilities are discussed in this tranquil town.

In this video you’ll see the daily program onboard of MS Spitsbergen during our expedition cruise around Svalbard. See what kind of activities they offer. Enjoy beautiful pictures of the nature and landscape of Svalbard as well as footage of polar bear families. Unfortunately the polar bears were very far away (between 800 - 1500 meters). Therefore please excuse the picture noise in the video.
You’ll also see all ship areas like restaurant, explorer lounge, bar, jacuzzi, sauna, fitness room, shop, the outdoor explorer deck, the bridge and our room. We had a „O2 Polar Outside Cabin“.
