Our First Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Adventure Vlog | Ep 1 | Twee Rivieren to Mata Mata

This is our first time visiting the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and it was an amazing adventure. Beautiful scenery and heavily corrugated road. The camps are top class and this was just our first day.
We spent the first night at Twee Rivieren and then made our way to Mata Mata.
We are camping in Gunnland our 79 series Land Cruiser and it remains our favourite way to see Africa!

We accidentally shot this trip with an incorrect frame rate - so enjoy this a a more vlog style episode from us :)

Vlog: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - Twee Rivieren day 1 - check in, accommodation and first drive

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park spans 3 countries - South Africa, Namibia and Botswana and is a remote wilderness that cannot be beat! While the park looks quite arid, being a summer rainfall area with sufficient rain to sustain some tree growth, the park forms part of the savanna biome, albeit a very dry part of the biome in South Africa.
The park's great open vistas driving in the Nossob and Aob dry river beds are reason enough to visit but it is also home to many big cats and bird species that makes for awesome game viewing as well!
In this first part of the vlog I go through my accommodation at Twee Rivieren and take you with me for my first afternoon game drive.

Call of the Kalahari | Episode 1 of 3 | Kgalagadi Transfrontier | Van Zylsrus, Twee Rivieren, Nossob

In January 2022 we visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park for the first time. This was my 55th birthday gift from Delwynne.

The park spans South Africa and Botswana, borders Namibia and measures 38,000 square kilometers.

This was a trip of a lifetime and we were rewarded with an abundance of wildlife, landscapes and sunsets. Experience this trip with us.

In this episode we travel to the park via Vanzylsrus and then stay at Twee Rivieren and then Nossob.

The park's website is here:

Nossob, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Kalahari | Campsite Review

Nossob is one of the most three main camps in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park. It is the most northern one of the three camps and well known for good predator sightings. It is a great camp and has a general campsite and premium campsites. The latter is more private and spacious and has private ablution facilities on each campsite. There is a shop, a swimming pool and hide. I really love to camp at Nossob and has never been disappointed with the camp.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Overland Road Trip

In this overlanding road trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park video, unique wildlife footage, plus loads of useful tips & information, gained from personal experience, to help plan your trip when visiting the park. The park stretches across 38 000 km2 of the Kalahari Desert and is unique in that it crosses the international border between South Africa and Botswana. Visitors are free to roam within the park, without limits in both countries.

This is wild and untamed Africa, no paved roads, mobile phone or internet reception. It's remote and hard to reach, the Kgalagadi is no Kruger Park. It's truly one of Africa's last great wilderness areas, and for those who make the effort to go there, it's SO worth it!

The name Kgalagadi is derived from the San word for land of great thirst. Water is scarce and only the very toughest survive. It's not a big 5 game reserve, animals that require abundant water like elephants, buffalo, rhino and zebra can't survive in this harsh, dry and unforgiving environment. But massive black manned Kalahari lions, shy leopards and swift cheetahs, the main big cat predators in the park, have a bountiful choice of antelope from which to choose their next potential meal.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park vs Kruger National Park ????????

South Africa is blessed with numerous wild spaces and national parks. Perhaps the best known are the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and it's more famous counterpart, The Kruger National Park. Both are special places where it's possible to disengage completely from the world and experience nature at it's most raw.

Both parks have aspects that will appeal to some more than others, so this shootout video, where I compare the Kgalagadi vs The Kruger, based on my own experiences in both parks, will show the pluses and minuses of both.

When I set out to make this video, I was almost certain that I knew which would come out ahead, but, I surprised myself when the results were tallied. As I said, this is my own subjective opinion, I would love to hear your views, so let me know in the comments.

Kgalagadi and Mabuasehube: Episode 1 - Crossing the Kgalagadi

Our first episode of the Kgalagadi and Mabuasehube Series, Crossing the Kgalgadi, is here!

Watch us and @EdwardBath take on the Nossob to Mabuasehube trail, towing our trailers through the thick sand!

We arrive at Twee Rivieren gate and enter the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, traversing through Nossob Restcamp and crossing the Kgalagadi to stay at Mabuasehube for 5 nights. This adventure is not to be missed!

KGALAGADI | NOSSOB TO MABUA | A LION DESTROYED MY TYRE | Episode 1

PLEASE NOTE! THE MAP FROM TWEE RIVIERIN TO NOSSOB AND MABUA SHOWN IN THE EPISODE IS THE INCORRECT ROUTE. PLEASE FOLLOW THE MAIN ROUTE IN THE NOSSOB RIVER. Google maps wouldn’t let me route on the main road thus the map is incorrect.

Any offensive comments that do not contain any constructive criticism will result in the removal of the comment and the user will be blocked from viewing the channel, come on guys LETS KEEP IT LEKKER!

For all the keyboard warriors that are going to say the reason we got stuck on the dunes is because we are towing trailers please refrain from even commenting. Whether we had trailers or not it all came down to tyre pressures which is explained in the video.

A Huge Thank You to my Patreon's for making this trip possible.

In this episode we drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and head up towards Mabua! We have some really special sightings on the way including lions in our camp, enjoy!

Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park Twee Rivieren to Mata Mata

2021 trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, spending a little over a week on an overlanding road trip around the Kgalagadi. In episode 1, we shuttle between Twee Rivieren and Mata Mata as well as taking a detour across the dunes to the Nossob River, with a 2 night stay at the stunning Kalahari Tented Camp.

Some awesome game viewing with lions, cheetahs and the greatest treat of all, a leopard chilling on a low tree branch less than 150 metres from the road. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park really is one of my favourite game reserves in South Africa. Although it's becoming more and more popular, with the accompanying increase in traffic and difficulty securing a booking, it's still so well worth the effort in reaching this remote spot.

Next episode we will travel overland across the Kalahari dunes to an upmarket lodge close, iXaus in the south west of the Kgalagadi National Park, close to the Namibian border, a real treat. And, the best of all, perfect timing brought us close up with a cheetah family.

Kgalagadi Lodge Review | Overlanding to Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park South Africa

Overlanding trip and review of the Kgalagadi Lodge, an ideal stopover at a privately owned establishment only 5km from the entrance to Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park. There are super well equipped chalets as well as camping sites with private ablution facilities, electrical points and water. There's also a restaurant and bar area that serves very decent burgers, steaks and pizzas. The swimming pool is perfect to cool off after a day on the road in a place where summer temperatures often reach the lower 40's.

Our stay was entirely at our own expense and was not at the invitation of the lodge, so it's my fully independent and unbiased opinion. We stayed in December 2020.

NB! our stay was before restrictions on alcohol sales came into effect in South Africa.

Vlog: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - Twee Rivieren Day 2: Lions, dive-bombing falcons and sunsets

In this second episode I have a full day in the park with my self driven morning drive yielding the first lion pride I got to see in the park and then time at the Kij Kij water hole spent watching red-necked falcons hunt smaller birds that come in to drink. The second day was rounded off with an afternoon drive which yielded a beautiful Kgalagadi sunset and some lovely night time sightings.

Overlanding Trip to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - Part1

We visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park on the South African Side only, during February 2021. This was a first for both of us, but what an experience it was with the Landcruiser Bushcamper with upgraded suspension. The Kgalagadi looked like the Highveld in summer, with all the rain that fell. Apparently the best rain in 50 years.
